The Junior League of Norfolk-Virginia Beach, Inc. (JLNVB) is a civic leadership organization for women looking for a complete volunteer experience that includes impacting our community through meaningful service projects, excellent training, and professional and social networking. The League’s 400 members are dedicated to the mission of promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the lives of women and children in

South Hampton Roads through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

Currently, we dedicate our volunteer and financial resources to our Healthy Kids Initiative. We have joined forces with many other local and regional organizations to help children in our community gain the skills and have access to resources necessary to learn to lead ahealthy lifestyle. Many activities are underway in Hampton Roads to prevent or reduce childhood obesity, but more work needs to be done! With the help of our generous sponsors, we continue to bring unique programs and projects in which children and parents can learn to embrace a lifestyle centered on wellness. And, of course, we couldn’t do the work we do without successful events like Beach Ball 2011!

It has been said, “When the Junior League gets behind something, communities change.” I wholeheartedly agree and I want to thank our members, sponsors, and community partners for their time, energy, and enthusiastic support.

With gratitude,

Kimberly C. Thompson2010-2011 PresidentJunior League of Norfolk-Virginia Beach, Inc.

JLNVB Mission

The Junior League of Norfolk-Virginia Beach, Inc. is an organization of women, committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

JLNVB Vision Statement

We are an organization of diverse women creating positive change in the lives of women and children in South Hampton Roads.

Join Us, Won’t You?

The JLNVB has approximately 500 dedicated “Active,” “Sustaining,” and “Provisional” members serving the communities of Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, and Virginia Beach. The JLNVB draws women from diverse racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds.

The Junior League of Norfolk-Virginia Beach, Inc. not only contributes to the community directly, it helps the community by training members to become better citizens. As our mission statement outlines, our organization is committed to developing the potential of women to help meet the needs of the community. We provide training for our members through workshops, seminars, and hands-on experience. JLNVB members come from all walks of life -- executives, doctors, lawyers, at-home wives and mothers, teachers, military personnel, and many more. Each woman comes in need of learning a new skill be it leadership, public speaking, parenting, diversity sensitivity, organizational skills, or even how to run an effective meeting. The JLNVB is dedicated to meeting these needs and offering guidance to each and every member. As our members learn, they bring these skills to other avenues of their lives and in turn become more effective members of the community. Well-informed and professionally trained women can make a huge impact!
