our storyCity Farmers Dogwash dates back to 1993, operating as Flea-stoppers. Started by a husband and wife team, this simple operation began with a van, a few products, a basic wash tub and a lot of passion, desire and enthusiasm to build a new market in Western Australia. And they did!

The business flourished, was franchised and expanded across the country under the Flea-stoppers and DoggyWash name until it was acquired by City Farmers Franchising in 2009.

City Farmers Franchising also owns and operates a group of 17 City Farmers retail stores in Western Australia (13) and Queensland (4) with many more stores on the drawing board. It’s this very strong retail base that makes the City Farmers Dogwash opportunity so attractive and far ahead of its competitors in the dogwash service area.

City Farmers (retail) has a similar story to our dogwash business. Founded by three enthusiastic blokes ready to take on the world and change the way pet products were retailed, that simple desire has grown into 17 stores and continues to expand.

Being part of this expanding retail network has given City Farmers Dogwash opportunities it would never have been able to otherwise undertake and added a whole new dimension to an already successful formula. This includes access to a targeted retail customer base, identification with a successful brand, increased buying power and access to exclusive products and suppliers previously only available to the large retail networks.

The large product range stocked by the retail stores is conveniently available for pick-up and delivery by City Farmers Dogwash Franchisees which enables you to meet customer requests at short notice. This hub and spoke model is what will drive your business forward over coming years.

For the Australian states where we don’t have established retail stores, bulk buying power is still available and accounts can be established with our strategic suppliers.

We clean build-up from their ears and eyes, clip nails and provide a thorough chamois dry with an optional blow-dry available. We help customers control nasty fleas and ticks and conveniently carry the leading brands on board.

A study by the Baker Medical Research Institute in Melbourne revealed that pet owners had lower risk factors for cardiovascular disease and lower cholesterol than non-pet owners. German, Australian and Chinese data confirms pet owners visit the doctor less often and spend less money on medication than non-pet owners.

The Australian Companion Animal Council says more than 83% of Australians report having had a pet at one time in their lives and more than 50% would like to own one in the future.

We’ll deck out your van and fill it as well!A vehicle fit-out and all the necessary bathing products, equipment and initial retail stock to adapt the standard van into a professional mobile dogwash service. This includes an eye-catching, mini pet specialty retail shop to generate extra sales and profit.

HydrobathA brightly “City Farmers Orange” coloured, fully-signed, auto-refill, twin tank, hydrobath including heaters and a fully enclosed blow dryer to provide the most water efficient and best wash in the market. City Farmers Dogwash promotes the use of the mobile hydrobath because bathing the dogs in their own homes and in familiar surroundings gives them a strong degree of comfort plus their family can gather round and share the experience too. We can’t promise everyone will come out dry, but that’s part of the fun and it’s much better than a dog being washed in an enclosed trailer without their family close by.

Initial and On-going TrainingEnrolment in a three-week training program held in Perth. This takes each Franchisee through every aspect of the business step-by-step. This comprehensive training will include hands-on time on the road as well as covering all key areas like financial management, local area marketing, occupational health & safety, retail selling skills and much, more. It also allows time for the Franchisee to get to know the business and the Franchise Support Team. Local Area MarketingStart up Local Area Marketing launch programs that will provide hands-on help which maximises the chances of success during the important start-up phase whilst the new business is growing. This is important because we know that by securing new customers they will more than likely become repeat business and secondly, they are a great source of referrals for future business growth. This is then supported by a Local Area Marketing Manual, which assists you in future planning for your business.

Group Marketing ActivitiesCity Farmers Dogwash currently advertises in the Yellow Pages, Yellow Pages online, White Pages, White Pages online and uses a variety of traditional and cutting-edge marketing tactics to support Franchisees. This includes online and website exposure, in-store promotional opportunities and an on-line booking system. As a group we will look at various options throughout the year that will continue to build the brand and increase new customer enquiries. This may take the form of print, radio, direct mail and other advertising mediums depending on our objectives.

Exclusivity!The franchised rights to operate exclusively for a period of 10 years within the designated area, with the ability to sell at any time.

Telecommunications supportWe’ll help you find the best Mobile Phone plan for your business including connections to our central bookings and answering service. This allows you to receive enquiries without interruption to your working schedule but provides the customer with a quick response which is vital to securing new business.

Dedicated 1300 numbersWe have secured a mix of 1300 phone numbers Australia-wide for customer convenience and to test and measure various marketing activities.

Your own City Farmers E-MailA dedicated business email address allows you to communicate directly with your customers in a professional manner. This email also separates personal emails from business because we understand your privacy is important.

The investment required to join the City Farmers Dogwash team is $24,995 AUD, inclusive of all necessary equipment, sign writing, vehicle fit-out, franchise documents, uniforms, stationery, training, initial retail stock and GST but excludes the van, which is to be chosen and supplied by the incoming Franchisee. The van must be of a minimum standard to keep the group looking professional and uniform.

The recommended van of choice is currently the Hyundai iLoad. The Hyundai iLoad has a great safety rating and many good industry reviews by the independent associations like the NRMA and the RAC. We have established a fleet discount for any Franchisee wanting to buy a new Hyundai iLoad. The mobile pet shop is best leveraged with the Barn Doors option.

ongoing inVEstmEntWorking CapitalIn addition to the initial investment you will require enough working capital to meet your business and personal expenses while growing your business and establishing a regular customer base. This will vary from Franchisee to Franchisee depending on lifestyle requirements and desired income.

Monthly Franchise FeesMonthly Franchise Management Fees are charged at a set amount, not a percentage of income – we won’t penalise you for working harder! This monthly Franchise Management Fee covers the ongoing use of the City Farmers Dogwash intellectual property, brand name, ongoing development in the franchise systems and tools plus the support systems that are in place.

Monthly Group Marketing FeesA monthly group marketing fee allows the group to leverage advertising mediums like the Yellow Pages which wouldn’t otherwise be possible under a single operator structure.
