Here’s the Sitch...

Crucifix on Loan – The large crucifix in the St. John side of our church has been loaned to the Church of Santa Maria in Orinda. The parish is undergoing renovations and will use their hall as the temporary wor-ship space. Rev. George Mockel and Santa Maria’s parishioners are grateful for our assistance.

Baptismal Font – The construction of the font’s shell has been completed and the structural elements are now being fabricated. Construction is scheduled to begin June 27, 2019.

Church Exterior Walls – Painting of the exterior of the Church begins June 10, 2019 and will take three weeks to complete.

Roofs – The installation of a new roof for the Rectory building as well as a temporary roof on the Governo House (to prevent further leaks) is scheduled for late June.

Parish Center – Enhancements in the gym, including new padding, backboards, and the refinishing of the floors, are slated for July and August. These improvements are fully funded through a grant pursued by the Oakland Diocese on behalf of parishes in our diocese that have gyms.

Sincerely,

Fr. Ken

Greetings, Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost and the Acts to the Apostles today with the words: ''When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled. They were all together in one place.'' We gather here in this holy place on this Pentecost Sunday, and you have come from many places to give God glory for the work of the Holy Spirit.

I want you to join me today and every day in celebrating and thanking the Holy Spirit for the work the Spirit has done in you and me. For it is truly the work of the Spirit that has brought us to this wondrous moment.

One thing the Acts stress today is how all the peoples who came from many places understood what the disci-ples of Jesus were saying. I believe that was because their hearts were in the right place, They wanted to hear the word of God, they wanted to be healed and forgiven, they wanted to be loved. So they did not allow dress or accents or foreign languages to distract them. They were fully open to the action of the Holy Spirit in their lives. We, too, are here because we also seek salvation. You are here by the power of the Holy Spirit.

I have so much to be thankful for as my dream of being a priest is now fulfilled and I have received my mis-sion to serve God's holy people. So as I offer grateful thanks for the gift of being a priest, I want each of you to also be grateful for your own special gifts on this lovely and joyful Pentecost.

Faith is the great gift that each of us have to be grateful for. But Jesus in the Gospel of John reminds that we have another equally important gift – Love. It is the great bond that binds us all together in a great fellowship, a great family of faith.

It is love that brings God down from heaven to live in us. ''Whoever loves Me will keep my word and my Fa-ther will love him, and we will make our dwelling with him.'' On this Pentecost Sunday, let our hearts be full of love and gratitude to God. And for each of you, I pray that every one of you be filled with Love and the Holy Spirit, and that you will keep me in your hearts and prayers as I promise, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to keep you in my heart and in my prayer.

From the Desk of Fr. Lee...

Pentecost Sunday—June 9, 2019. In the last night of his life, Jesus prayed specifically for his followers to have unity. He said that, through unity, the disciples would bear a powerful witness to his name...
