Possible to choose...

IMPLANT PLACEMENTBesides the choice of implants, the result will be influenced by the following two parame-ters: how the incision is made, and the placement of the implants.

The location of the implants depends largely on the strength of the subcutaneous tissue. For the subglandular po-sition, the implant is placed on the chest muscle below the breast gland. This location generally reduces difficulties and discomfort after the operation and speeds up your return to normal activities. For the submuscular position, the implant is placed below or inside the chest muscle. This location generally adds another layer of muscle to the overlay and can reduce difficulties during mammography readings. You should first consult the advantages and disadvantages of the placement of the implants with your plastic surgeon.

The location of implants under the breast gland is better sui-ted for more active patients who do not want to interrupt their intense physical, sports or work activities for longer peri-ods, because the convales-cence time for the placement of implants under the gland is shorter. Mammary gland

Placing implants under the chest muscle decreases the risk of infection and capsular contraction. The muscle per-fectly overlaps the outlines of the implants in the upper half of the chest, so they are not too visible under the skin even in slimmer patients.

LOCATION OF THE INCISION

In the armpit- axillary incision

For this incision, the scar is minimally visible. This loca-tion is particularly suitable for round implants.

In the under-breast crease- sub-mammary incision

This incision will be hidden under the slight drop of the breasts and is among the most commonly used methods for inserting im-plants.

Breast areola- periareolar incision

The scar around the areola. To a certain extent, this inci-sion will be covered by the pigmentation and ring of the areola.

AUGMENTATION

Choosing implants and where to place them depends on your wishes and consultation with the doctor. Hospitali-zation after surgery takes 1-2 days, with the recovery pe-riod usually 7-14 days. It’s a surgical procedure designed to increase the size of the breast or modify the shape or to balance out any asymmetry. Those deciding to under-go augmentation are usually women who, for various personal reasons, consider the size of their breasts to be a handicap. Achieving the desired proportions gives them satisfaction with their physical condition and increases their self-esteem. BEFORE THE SURGERYDuring your first consultation with the doctor, you will be gi-ven the details of the operation and recommendations for the best operating techniques according to the condition of your breasts and tightness of your skin. Your doctor will inform you about which implants and sizes are used.

By all means openly discuss your expectations with your surgeon. The surgeon will describe for you all the options, risks and constraints. Because it’s an operation performed under general anesthesia, it is necessary to undergo a pre-surgical examination by a general practitioner and in-ternist, who will exclude the possible health risks: allergies, autoimmune or other serious illnesses. Prior to the operati-on, it is also necessary to exclude diseases of the breast, best done by mammography mainly for high-risk groups of patients where the family history is positive (breast diseases appearing in the family).

You will receive instructions from your doctor on prepara-tions for the surgery, including information on food, drink and using or abstaining from certain vitamins and medi-cations. A necessary component of the surgery includes LIPOTHROMBO anti-embolism stockings, which prevent thrombosis of the veins in your lower limbs.

Augmentation (an operation to enlarge the size of the breasts), is surgery performed under general anesthesia lasting about 1-2 hours. The breast is augmented using silicone implants placed below the breast gland or under the muscle.

Natural shape and desired result…

COURSE OF THE SURGERYBreast augmentation is performed under general anes-thesia. Patients are usually advised to abstain from eating, drinking and smoking for about 6 hours before surgery. The operation takes 1-2 hours.

AFTER THE SURGERY You will probably feel some pain for several days follow-ing the operation, but it will gradually decrease. You will remain under hospital care for 1-3 days. The immediate post-operation recovery regime lasts 1-2 weeks. We rec-ommend that you wear the LIPOELASTIC® post-operative bra (a compression bandage designed for fixation of your

implants) for about 6 weeks after the procedure. After this time you can return to full physical activity. You can contin-ue your normal household activities in 5-10 days. Showering your breasts is not recommended until the wound heals. You should use a silicone plaster for the least visible scar. BIODERMIS Epi-Derm silicone sheeting is adapted directly for scars after breast surgeries. Your breasts will be consid-ered stable 1-2 months after the operation. You should be able to go back to work within a couple of days after the operation, depending on the difficulty of your job. The re-sults are usually considered permanent after 3 months.

Visit your surgeon any time your breasts change shape or stiffness (become hard) or if any inflammation develops. Seeing a doctor is also recommended after any blow to the chest (car accident, fall from height, etc.). Arrange with your surgeon about regular checkups.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSWHAT IS BREAST AUGMENTATION?Breast augmentation is an aesthetic-surgical procedure performed to increase the size or modify the shape of the breast with the use of implants, to improve the contour of a woman who finds her breasts too small (whether before or after pregnancy) or asymmetrical.

WHO ARE BREAST IMPLANTS NOT SUITABLE FOR?Breast implants can cause contraindications in women who: ■ have an infection in the body ■ have an autoimmune disease ■ are pregnant or breastfeeding ■ are in the early stages of breast cancer ■ are currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer

WHO IS THE BEST CANDIDATE FOR BREAST AUGMENTATION?The best candidate for augmentation is a client with realistic expectations of the result as an improvement, not as perfection. There is no guarantee that the result of your operation will be the same as for any other client.

Your result depends on many other individual factors, which include your overall health (including your age), the structure of your chest, shape and position of your breast/nipple, your skin structure, your healing ability (which can be slowed down by smoking, using alcohol or various me-dications), hemorrhaging factor, previous operation on the breast and furthermore on the type of operation, and type and size of the implants. Before choosing augmentation, discuss your expectations with the surgeon to ensure you will be satisfied with the results.

IS SILICONE SAFE?In 1992 the FDA (Food and Drug Administration in the United States) prohibited operations with the use of silicone for re-asons of concern about its safety. This regulation was later cancelled and the Institute of Medicine at the Academy of Sciences declared silicone implants to be safe.

DO NAGOR IMPLANTS CONTAIN LATEX?Nagor implants consist of silicone elastomers and silicone gel. Nagor does not use latex or natural rubber in its pro-duction.

IS BREAST IMPLANTATION SURGERY PAINFUL?The pain associated with the implantation of breast implants depends on the kind of operation you choose, whether you choose to locate them beneath or on the muscle, your body’s individual reaction to pain, and the operation in general. Post operation swelling must be expected, as well as a certain amount of pain and discomfort.

HOW LONG WILL THE SURGERY TAKE?The operation is performed under general anesthesia and takes 1-2 hours according to the scope of the surgery. To ensure the highest standard of personal care, it is necessary for you to spend the proper amount of time in the hospital or specialized clinic prior to and after the operation for rea-sons of pre- and post-operative care.

HOW LONG WILL I STAY AT THE CLINIC?The scope of your operation will determine the time necessary for you to spend at the clinic, and this also de-pends on your overall health and the discretion of the doc-tor. We recommend you to arrange transport to the clinic before the surgery and then home afterwards, since driving a car right after surgery is prohibited.

ARE BREAST IMPLANTS AN OBSTACLE FOR MAMMOGRAPHY READINGS?You should be aware that breast implants can affect the detection of breast cancer and that compression during a mammography reading can cause rupture. The mam-mogram may not necessarily detect the cancer or it can appear later because the suspected affected area will be covered or this area will be more difficult to view (x-rays, ul-trasound). Implants make performing and assessing mam-mograms difficult. You should inform the staff about the presence of your implants prior to the mammography.

AND WHAT ABOUT BREASTFEEDING?Women of childbearing age should know that after implan-tation you may not be able to breastfeed. Some women are able to breastfeed, some are not. It is important to con-sult your surgeon about the possibilities of breastfeeding pri-or to the operation. If you decide to undergo breast aug-mentation after becoming a mother, then from a medical viewpoint the operation is recommended at the earliest 6-12 months after breastfeeding.
