welcome to be local

why be local? As small business owners, we understand

how hard it is to stand out in a crowd. This

publication was created with the idea that

there is power in numbers. If we work together

as small, local businesses, we can all afford

a high-quality, alternative advertising option

that is both created and distributed by local

businesses. Be Local/Shop Local is all about

promoting and supporting locally-owned,

independent businesses. It’s about making

your hard-earned money go further, fueling the

local economy, and helping to preserve the

unique character of our community.

Make a difference. shop local.

featured advertiser the sewing palace

Bernina is a world-famous brand name for sewing machines. In

Helena, the Bernina name goes hand in hand with the Sewing Palace, now located at 124 East Lyndale Avenue.

When owner Jenny Yannone started looking for a new location for her store (previously located on Helena Avenue below the Capital City Health Club), she found exactly what she was looking for just a hop, skip and a jump away. The all-new Sewing Palace still offers great hands-on classes, knowledgeable staff and on-site service center in a great central location.

Those who have been in Helena for a while may know that the Sewing

Palace was previously named “Sue’s Sewing Palace.” Yannone purchased the store from her mother after seven years of working side by side at “Sue’s Sewing Palace” and truly learned the sewing industry from the inside out.

With the new location came an opportunity to make the store “her own.” Yannone’s goal was to make the store more convenient and more organized and to expand the classroom size. Since she is married to a contractor, Yannone was able to really get what she wanted out of the new space by altering the floor plan to her specifications. Plus, she added energy efficient lighting to complement the indirect natural light

from the large windows and added a kids’ playroom to help parents shop with ease.

Sixteen years after the family business started, Yannone is still seeing great success. She says, “All 17 of my employees absolutely love to sew. I find that with the hands on product knowledge makes my staff well rounded and able to provide better service to our customers.” Yannnone says her favorite part of the business is helping customers with their creative process. Picking out fabrics, colors, styles and being there every step of the way is what she finds the most fulfilling. She said, “The creative process is therapeutic. I believe it is healing to sew. If you create a project

for a loved one, you tend to think about that person as you sew. You may remember great times together and memories that inspire you as you create. You think about every detail as you go and then have something beautiful to show for it when you are done.”

For the individuals who are interested in sewing or already love to sew, The Sewing Palace should be your first stop. Not only do they offer classes for any skill level from beginner to enthusiast, but they also have a large selection of Bernina machines to fit any skill level. Stop by their new location today to see what inspires you, and be sure to help celebrate their grand opening July 8-10.
