CNM PRESIDENT CNM FOUNDATION BOARD PRESIDENT Dear CNM Foundation Supporters,

I want to express my deep appreciation for the great work of the CNM Foundation, the CNM Foundation Board members and the wonderful donors who enrich our community by supporting the success of CNM students. The support you provide to our students truly brings the CNM Vision – “Changing Lives, Building Community” – to life.

The CNM Foundation was instrumental in helping CNM make tremendous progress in helping more students persevere and graduate with a certificate or associate degree last year. Comparing the 2010-11 academic year to the 2014-15 academic year, CNM had a 120 percent increase in the number of associate degrees awarded, which signifies remarkable progress and great support from the Foundation and CNM’s faculty and staff.

But as our New Mexico economy continues its struggle to rebound from the Recession, CNM must strive to make greater progress in the years ahead to provide our region with the skilled workforce it needs to help spur economic development at a faster pace.

In addition to growing our traditional Career Technical Education programs and our Academic Transfer programs that are vital to our community and students, we will continue to make advances with our CNM STEMulus Center initiatives, many of which are non-credit, accelerated programs that fulfill key workforce needs and support the growing entrepreneurial spirit in central New Mexico. We will also continue to expand our high school Dual Credit program, which allows thousands of high school students to take CNM classes that count for both high school and college credit, allowing them to save time and thousands of dollars on a college education.

These are just a couple of examples of ways in which CNM intends to produce more college graduates, a more skilled workforce, and contribute to an economic resurgence in our region. But to accomplish our goals, we need your continued support. Together, I know we can make game-changing impacts on the future of our community and state.

Thanks again for your heart-warming generosity and your appreciation for the very important role CNM serves for students, our economy and our community.

Sincerely,

Dr. Katharine W. Winograd CNM President

Dear Friends of the CNM Foundation,

As CNM embarks upon another year of educating and supporting our community, the CNM Foundation would like to thank each of you for investing in the future of our students, our community and our state. With deep gratitude for your contributions to student success, the College is very proud to report some significant milestones.

Over the last 10 years (from the 2004-05 academic year to 2014-15), the number of students graduating from CNM has increased from 1,885 students to 6,232, a remarkable 230.6 percent increase. Here are some more numbers comparing CNM’s gains in 2014-15 compared to the 2010-11 academic year:• 120 percent increase in the number of associate degrees awarded• 83 percent increase in associate degrees or certificates awarded to minorities (70 percent increase for Hispanics)• 17 percent increase in number of certificates awarded• 9 percent increase in number of awards in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Healthcare fields.

Thanks to you, the CNM Foundation raised $1.3 million in scholarship and program support last year. These funds are so important in helping more students reach graduation, which contributes to a better quality of life for the students, their families and our entire community. In May 2015, 2,848 students graduated with a degree or certificate. Because of donors like you, 226 of those students received a Foundation scholarship during their time at CNM, which so often makes the difference in a student reaching graduation and a quality career. Together, with your support, we’ll continue to change lives and build community in ways that lift our entire region to new and more promising heights.

Sincerely,

John LewingerPresident, CNM Foundation Board of Directors

In 1971, Larry and Dorothy Rainosek began living their American Dream when they opened their first restaurant, the iconic and ever-popular Frontier Restaurant across from the University of New Mexico. In 1972, they opened their first Golden Pride and currently have a total of four. The Frontier and Golden Prides are known for their award-winning breakfast burritos. While the Rainoseks are very passionate about their highly successful restaurants, they also have a strong passion for giving back to their community and helping others reach their American Dream. They are generous supporters of the CNM Foundation and the life-changing power of a CNM education.

Andy Lim moved to Albuquerque from Taiwan in 2000 without being able to speak English, but that wasn’t going to slow him down from chasing his American Dream. He enrolled in English as a Second Language classes at CNM, which prepared him for his educational pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Information Systems Management at the University of New Mexico. After graduating, he became founder and CEO of Lavu, Inc., where he launched his point-of-sale software system that is now used in 86 countries. He was named a CNM Distinguished Alumni in 2015 and he is a strong advocate for the power of a CNM education. He has become a very generous donor to the CNM Foundation.

John Boydstun is a part-time faculty member at CNM teaching math, and a full-time supporter of the CNM Foundation and the uplifting power of education. He grew up in Santa Fe in a family of modest means, but he knew all along that higher education would be his path to success. After graduating from the University of New Mexico, he embarked on a successful career that led him to Denver and Chicago. While in Denver, he volunteered as a math tutor and felt the calling to be a teacher. He returned to Albuquerque and became a math instructor at CNM in 2003. “CNM touches and changes the lives of so many,” he said. To help CNM touch and change more lives, he became a supporter of the CNM Foundation and endowed a scholarship.

Kristin Dowling has always loved cooking and baking. “I love feeding people and pouring my heart and soul into everything I make,” she said. When Kristin decided she wanted to turn her passion into a career, she enrolled in CNM’s Culinary Arts program and earned her Associate of Applied Science Degree in Culinary Arts in 2013. Now, she’s the proud co-owner of the popular Rude Boy Cookies in Albuquerque, where she puts all of the skills she learned at CNM into the business of creating tasty treats that make people in the Duke City say, “Yum!”

JOHN BOYDSTUN, CNM FACULTY KRISTIN DOWLING, RUDE BOY COOKIES

“TO ME, EDUCATION IS A CORNERSTONE IN THE FOUNDATION OF LIFE,” BOYDSTUN SAID. “IT OPENS UP A MYRIAD OF POSSIBILITIES AND IS A LASTING ACCOMPLISHMENT. EDUCATION SHOULD BE ACCESSIBLE TO ALL WITHOUT DISCRIMINATION. CNM SUPPORTS MY BELIEFS ABOUT EDUCATION AND DESERVES MY FINANCIAL SUPPORT.”

“THE CNM FOUNDATION IS SUCH A WONDERFUL RESOURCE,” DOWLING SAID. “BEING ABLE TO GET AN EDUCATION TO BETTER YOUR LIFE, OBTAIN A JOB, OR FURTHER A CAREER YOU ALREADY HAVE IS AMAZING. CNM HAS CHANGED MY LIFE IMMENSELY!”

SRUST OPPORTUNITY ASSISTANCE SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT:

“SOMETIMES NO MATTER HOW WELL YOU THINK YOU PLAN AHEAD, LIFE THROWS YOU A CURVE BALL THAT REALLY DISRUPTS THINGS AND I AM SO GRATE-FUL FOR SCHOLAR-SHIPS LIKE THIS THAT HELP STUDENTS OVERCOME THESE CIRCUMSTANCES.” ~ JARED BARRERAS, NURSING MAJOR, 3.25 GPA

Changing Lives Building Community CampaignThe CNM Foundation is grateful to the below investors for their participation in the “Building Community” Campaign to raise resources to help ensure that our students who enter our education/training programs are able to graduate and become successful members of our business community. To do so, we need more resources to make a significant impact on the retention and graduation rate of the 30,000 students we serve.

These supporters have made an investment in the future of New Mexico’s workforce and believe that our future economic outlook depends on the availability and quality of trained personnel. We are grateful for their belief in CNM’s return on investment for businesses and the New Mexico economy. We invite you to learn more about this campaign by visiting www.cnm.edu/donate.
