Jewellery Making Project Czech Glass Weave Bracelet
1.Cut two pieces of chain 37
links in length. Also cut the
cord into 2 lengths of 1 meter,
and 2 lengths of half a meter.
2.Put one of the pieces of
chain to the side for the
time being. Tie one of the
half meter lengths of cord
to one end of the chain.
3.In this section you are
working on the outside of
the bracelet. Thread a 6mm
bead onto the cord and then
thread the cord up through
the next link of chain.
4.Thread another bead onto
the cord and then thread the
cord up through the next link
of chain. Continue until you
have used 19 beads. Tie a
knot at the end of the chain
to secure. (Remember to not
cut off the excess cord as this
will be needed at the end.)
5.Repeat steps 2 to 4 using
the other piece of chain.
6.Now place the two pieces
of beaded chain together.
(Beads facing outwards.) Tie
a piece of the 1 meter length
cord to one of the end links
of chain and weave the cord

through the second link of
chain on both pieces of chain.
Do this twice before weaving
the cord through the fourth
link of chain on pieces of chain.
7.Continue until you have
come to the end of the
chain. Tie the cord to one of
the end links of the chain.
8.Tie the other 1 meter
length of cord to the end
link of chain and now thread
the cord underneath the
cord that is linking the two
Pieces of chain together.
9.Thread a 6mm bead onto
the cord and then thread
the cord underneath the next
piece of cord that is linking
the two pieces of chain.
10.So every time you come
up inbetween the two
pieces of chain with the cord
you add a bead and then
you thread the cord down
through the two pieces of
chain over the cord that
links the two pieces of chain.
11.When you have weaved
all 17 beads onto the
bracelet tie a knot to
the end link of chain.
12.Now bring all the
loose cord ends together
and enclose neatly
inside a box closer and
trim the excess cord.
13.Connect a magnetic clasp
to each end using jump rings.
There we go, ready to rock!

TIPS & ADVICEIf you are finding it hard to
thread the beads onto the
cord then put a tiny bit of
glue on the end of the cord.
You can put a bit of glue on
the knots to secure them if
you think that they might
come undone.

Summer is upon us (well sort
of) and the high street is full
of beach friendly jewellery.
Every sun goddess knows
that bangles and beachwear
go hand in hand and in our
opinion, the more bangles
you wear the better. With
that in mind, this month’s
‘Beat the High Street’ challenge
chose a beautiful ethnic
inspired bracelet set from
Accessorize. Ok let’s be honest,
it’s not the biggest of savings
(40p to be exact), but it is still
cheaper and you do have the
choice of choosing your own
colour scheme, accessories and

Fantastic Jewellery Design Ideas5 01. With this cute little number I have
combined white fimo flowers sitting
inside turquoise beads to create a lily
pad look. The white of the fimo flowers
give the turquoise beads a calm feel
while the pink adds a bit of extra colour.
02. These simple to make wire hoop earrings are a great
accessory for summer, With a lovely contrast of the gold
and yellow, they would bring a bit of bling to any outfit!
03. I love combining the sparkle of Swarovski
elements with the dull finish of antique chain;
it gives a beautiful vintage to feel to a piece.

05. Yellow is my absolute favourite colour, it’s
bright, cheerful and brightens up my day. I am
completely drawn to it, therefore I wanted to create
a piece of jewellery that stands out and represents
my kind of yellow – bold and bright. I decided
upon creating a pair of statement earrings to show
off this brilliant colour. I also incorporated a hint
of steampunk into my design by using clock hands.

7 Strand Beadalon Crinkle Wire
The 0.38mm 7 Strand Beadalon
crinkle wire is a great product
to use if you are looking for
a unique finish. The irregular
bends in the wire create a
rustic, less polished effect and
as the wire comes in a variety of
colours, it will cater for almost
ever style and taste.
We have recently
introduced a new line
of 8-22mm freshwater
pearl beads and I was excited
to find that they are sold by
the string. The colour range
is so beautiful; I would love
to make different variations
to go with every outfit. .
I decided to go for a
mixture of Teal and Peacock
because the beads are all
different shapes and sizes,
so the contrast would work
well. With a beach theme
in mind, I can definitely
imagine wearing these on
holiday with a lovely tan.
I have combined 3mm sea
bamboo semi-precious beads
with 6mm Czech faceted
beads in shades of Pink/Blue
Green and the Purple Iris/
Aqua. These are mixed with
6mm Round Polaris style
beads in Matte Red colour.
To represent the sea I
decided to choose a new
Swarovski Xilionbicones
colour called Provence
Lavender-Chrysolite Blend,
teaming that with 6mm
Fern Green AB 2x as they
compliment the fresh
water pearls beautifully.

As a newbie to the bead world
I still have a lot of techniques
to explore and something I
hadn’t yet worked with (mainly
due to fear) was seed beads...
The idea of Seed Beads filled me
with dread, a product exclusively
reserved for geniuses. I’d seen
‘Battle of the Bead Smith’;
the skills are astounding!
But then I was introduced
to the book: ‘100 BEADED
Flowers, Trinkets & Charms’ by
Amanda Brooke Murr-Hindson
This book is a great
introduction to tiny beads
and I was amazed at the level
of detail you can create with
relatively simple techniques.
It took me a while to decide
on a project because I wanted
to make everything! However
I did finally manage to narrow
the book down, settling on the
‘Bugs world’ and ‘In the garden’
sections which seemed great
for a spring/summer project.
I started with the simpler
designs and found the
instructions clear and easy to
follow. I then moved on to the
projects that were a bit ‘fiddly’
but the challenge remained
enjoyable. I fell in love with the
book and enjoyed reading the
informative notes on each page.
I would recommend it to those
who like a fun and
kitsch style; also I think
it would be a great
book for older children.
I must admit I got a
little giddy and ended up
making a number of insects
and flowers, I think they
work well as rings, necklaces,
hair slides and brooches,
but also they would look
great sticking out of a plant
pot or hanging in the car.
This book is packed full of
fun projects for all ages. I
would recommend using
slightly larger seed beads (6
or 8) until you get the hang of
things. Then move on to size
11’s for more of a challenge
and a daintier result.
