Important Notices, Reminders & Information
Gifted and Talented (GT Testing Request) The deadline for students to turn in completed applications to be tested for the Gifted & Talented Program will be October 31, 2016. All applications (Application and Teacher Letter of Recommendation) will need to be complete before I can order any materials for testing. In order to be sure that all students have an opportunity to request testing, a copy of the application will be sent home with each child at BCMA, regardless of their GT Status.
LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED

Lunch Applications BCMA is a Title I Campus. In order to assist us in making sure that we are receiving all of the funding available to support our students, we are asking that ALL parents complete the Lunch Application, regardless of your financial situation. Funding is made available through this process and it is very important that we have as many students with complete Lunch Applications, as possible, to assist towards this effort. HSPVA Creative Writing Middle School Workshop Presented by, HSPVA Creative Writing Guild
DESCRIPTION The Annual HSPVA Creative Writing Middle School Workshop provides a unique opportunity for middle school students from the Houston area to participate in an all -day workshop of creative writing skills. The workshop is open to all middle school students in the Greater Houston Area. Students will participate in three different interactive sessions covering topics like developing ideas, character and dialogue, narrative structure, poetry and spoken word. There will also be a voluntary open mic reading beginning at 1:15pm to celebrate the writings of the day that p arents won't want to miss! Attendees will receive a t-shirt and commemorative pen and notebook. Lunch is included. Registration closes November 7. There is a bonus gift for participants registered by October 15! Due to the advanced planning required for this event, we are unable to offer refunds. DATE AND TIME

General Information for PE Uniforms BCMA physical education uniforms will be sold to
students during their PE class, if your student does not have PE during first semester she / he will still need to place an order for the upcoming spring semester.
Students are required to wear the BCMA’s PE Uniform daily. If your child has her / his uniform
from a previous school year, they may such.
Uniform Cost:
o FULL SET (SM-LRG) $20 (XL-XXL) $30
o Individual pieces $10 each
If any PE or elective teacher is requiring students
to dress out before BCMA uniforms arrive they
will be asked to wear appropriate workout
clothes from home.
General Information for BCMA Jackets
The final order of PE Uniforms and Jackets are scheduled to arrive on Oct. 19th.
If your student purchased a PE uniform or jacket during the summer or orientation his/her order is available for pick up in the office of Coach Strong.

Note to Parents: This week we are introducing our final Literature Circle project— Book Talks! Students will be using Animoto next week to create their own Book Talk – a short video that persuades the audience to read a particular book. Students are encouraged to bring headphones and their own laptops (if they have one). We will also be providing laptops (but not headphones). Most work will be done in class. However, there is a possibility that some work will have to be done at home in order to meet the deadline. This is dependent on how efficiently students work and if they are on-task. This will be a project grade (15%). Students will have to turn in their video and organizer. They will be showing their final product to the class. Book Talks are due November 16th/17th. This Week in the Math Lab w/Ms. Kerawala
Classwork this Week: TSW complete individualized topics, assignments, earn their piece of the pie, and take quizzes in www.Aleks.com program. Students have approximately an hour in class daily to work on weekly topic and time assignments. Anything not completed in class will be expected to be completed at home.

Topic of the Week: Due to the nature of the program and built in extended deadline with multiple attempts, the program will not allow extension for assignments past the due dates. These assignments must be done in a timely manner. Student are expected to 1) work at least two hours and 2) complete at least 8 topics for this week. Due Date for Topic 3.1 and Time 3.1 is

Analyze the movement of the skeleton via muscular system through the activity

Tuesday November 8th & Wednesday November 9th Students will analyze the release of neurotransmitter from the nervous system which initiates skeletal muscle contraction and will summarize other aspects of neuromuscular integration.
Students will also: Evaluate the role of calcium in muscle
contraction; Summarize the events occurring in the
sarcoplasmic reticulum. Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages

Learning Objective:
To give students practice using the skill of digital writing in a way in which they are
part of a community and their written ideas will be challenged, expanded on, and commented on by peers etc.
To motivate students to write through feedback from their peers.
To teach them strategies to write for more than an audience of one.
To create an online identity within a safe community of their peers that gives them practice representing themselves and their opinions.
To focus on expressive writing/opinion writing
Vocabulary:
Blog - a website containing a writer’s or group of writer’s own experiences, observations, opinions etc. Blogs often
have images and link to other websites.
Digital Writing - a type of writing that has different demands than more traditional writing and can be more relevant to your life beyond the classroom; the goal of this type of writing is to build community, communication and connection.

ITEM #1: In several weeks (hopefully in week 8), we are doing a Day of the Dead papier mache mask. For this project we will need NEWSPAPER. Please save your newspapers or pick one up at the store in the coming week. Please send your student to school with a newspaper for Art Class by Monday, October 10, 2016 to prepare for this project. Thanks!
ITEM #2: In order to make sure that everyone is properly equipped for painting, please look into purchasing your child a BRUSH SET. A basic beginner’s student set can be purchased at Michael’s for a few dollars: $3.29 to be exact or purchase wherever is most convenient. We will use these brushes when we begin our papier mache project in Week 8. Please have these available by Monday, October 10, 2016.
ITEM #3: Please have your student bring an OLD T-SHIRT to school to wear for painting projects beginning Monday, October 10, 2016. They can keep them in their locker and bring when requested to art class.
