Important Notices, Reminders & Information

Gifted and Talented (GT Testing Request) The deadline for students to turn in completed applications to be tested for the Gifted & Talented Program will be October 31, 2016. All applications (Application and Teacher Letter of Recommendation) will need to be complete before I can order any materials for testing. In order to be sure that all students have an opportunity to request testing, a copy of the application will be sent home with each child at BCMA, regardless of their GT Status.

General Information for PE Uniforms BCMA physical education uniforms will be sold to

students during their PE class, if your student does not have PE during first semester she / he will still need to place an order for the upcoming spring semester.

Students are required to wear the BCMA’s PE Uniform daily. If your child has her / his uniform

from a previous school year, they may such.

Uniform Cost:

o FULL SET (SM-LRG) $20 (XL-XXL) $30

o Individual pieces $10 each

If any PE or elective teacher is requiring students

to dress out before BCMA uniforms arrive they

will be asked to wear appropriate workout

clothes from home.

General Information for BCMA Jackets

The final order of PE Uniforms and Jackets are scheduled to arrive on Oct. 19th.

If your student purchased a PE uniform or jacket during the summer or orientation his/her order is available for pick up in the office of Coach Strong.

BCMA Instructional Agenda

This Week in the Math Lab w/Ms. Kerawala

Classwork this Week: TSW complete individualized topics, assignments, earn their piece of the pie, and take quizzes in www.Aleks.com program. Students have approximately an hour in class daily to work on weekly topic and time assignments. Anything not completed in class will be expected to be completed at home.

ALEKS Assignments Posted: Week 5 Cycle 3 (www.ALEKS.com)

Topic of the Week: Due to the nature of the program and built in extended deadline with multiple attempts, the program will not allow extension for assignments past the due dates. These assignments must be done in a timely manner. Student are expected to 1) work at least two hours and 2) complete at least 8 topics for this week. Due Date for Topic 3.5 and Time 3.5 is:

Sunday, midnight 12/11/16 Upcoming Topic: The program is self-pacing, and therefore some students may need to work over two hours to master 8 topics. The assignments are as follows:

All quiz and tests are done on the ALEKS program in class. Every student is given the opportunity to look at worked examples during a quiz/test and a chance to make corrections at least once on ALL quizzes and tests during the allotted class time. Weekly Focus: On a daily basis, students will continue to review skills needed for success in 7th grade math. We will continue to work on STAAR math Test.

This Week in Scientific Decision Making w/Mr. Wertz

Monday, Dec. 5th & Tuesday, Dec. 6th Students will give oral presentations on independent science research projects graded on a rubric by the teacher. Peers will grade student presentations as well. Student graders will earn a participation grade for critiquing fellow students’ projects. Students will review the 7 habits of maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system and will make a T chart outlining the pros and cons of our three case study examples from earlier in the semester.

Homework: students will be given three peer case study examples: Stephanie pg. ,

three case study individuals for the purpose of making T charts on each and suggesting alternative forms of behavior or smarter choices.

HISD CALL FOR ARTISTS

On February 15, 2017, student artwork will be featured as the table centerpieces and on display for the district’s annual State of the Schools’ Luncheon for ()SD where nearly , community members and business leaders attend. Artwork will also be part of a silent-auction during the event with all proceeds collected going directly to the campus responsible for its creation. All HISD schools are being asked to participate.

ARTWORK THEME: Invest in Every Child

Project Specifications:

More than one student may work on the project together.

Each piece must be 3-dimensional so everyone at the table can enjoy it.

Each piece CANNOT be larger than ” inches in diameter and 5” inches high. Each piece must be stable, self-standing, and NOT require a stand or an easel to remain

upright.

ONLY ONE artwork from BMCA @ Ryan can be submitted to the district for consideration to be included in the event. However, all finished artwork created for this event, even if not selected for submission to the district, will be displayed in the school.

If you would like to create an art piece for this event, please do the following:

(1) BY THURSDAY, DECEMBER 8th, submit a sketch and written description (a simple sentence or two) to Ms. Price describing what you intend to create. EMAIL: [email protected] –or- Drop off to Ms. Price in class by Thursday, December 8, 2016.
