Mission

Mission Statement The British Columbia Fencing Association

(BCFA) promotes and governs the sport of fencing within BC at the recreational and competitive levels.

Vision

Vision The BCFA and its member clubs will achieve increased

participation in the sport of fencing at all levels. The BCFA and its member clubs will achieve increased

success at the competitive level, including winning more medals at National and International Competitions and increasing the number of BCFA members on National Teams.

The BCFA will secure funding from multiple sources, and will ensure that greater than 70% of revenue received is directed to the fencing community.

Strategic Goals:

The BCFA will implement the Long Term Athlete Development Model – The LTAD model will be promoted at the club

level.

Outcome: – By 2015 the LTAD model will be entrenched in

the development of fencers in BC.

Strategic Goals:

The BCFA will implement the Long Term Athlete Development Model – The LTAD model will be promoted at the club

level. Progress

– $3,000 funding secured to develop implmentation plan in 2011/12.

– Need to form implementation committee with broad representation from clubs.

Strategic Goals:

Enhanced Participation in Fencing– The BCFA will sponsor programs such as school

programs and developmental camps that will attract new members to the sport and increase accessibility to under serviced groups and populations.

Outcome: – By 2015 the BCFA will have 1,500 members.

Enhanced Participation in Fencing– The BCFA will sponsor programs such as school programs

and developmental camps that will attract new members to the sport and increase accessibility to under serviced groups and populations.

Strategic Goals:

Enhanced Capacity– The BCFA will optimize its ability to operate as a volunteer

organization by providing opportunities for development and personal growth for its volunteers and recognition for volunteers

Outcomes: – The BCFA will be governed by an informed and trained board.– The BCFA will be run by volunteers whose key skills are utilized

and who are valued and rewarded for their work.– The BCFA will provide developmental opportunities and

recognition for volunteers (such as opportunities that fit with volunteer requirements for schools, or administrative and intern opportunities for students of relevant disciplines such as administration or communication studies).

Strategic Goals:

– Financial Independence The BCFA will not rely solely on Government revenue

sources. The BCFA will secure funding through fundraising, merchandising and grant opportunities

– Outcome: By 2015 the BCFA will have raised $100,000 through

the NTSF plan. By 2015 the BCFA will have a plan to secure 50% of

annual funding independent of BC government core and gaming grants

Strategic Goals:

Increase the number of trained coaches and officials at the grass roots and competitive level

Outcome: – By 2015 every coach and official working with

participants in B.C. will be trained and certified. – By 2015 BC will have access to at least three

coaches trained at the Canadian Coaching Association Level 4.

Strategic Goals:

Market fencing to members and the general public

Outcome:– By 2015 Most BC residents will know about fencing and

understand it to be a life long sport that promotes a healthy active lifestyle through quality programming.

– Every success at Provincial, National and International level will result in a BCFA press release

– By 2015 BCFA will have 1,500 members

Strategic Goals:

Enhanced Excellence– Provide opportunities for B.C. coaches to gain national and international

experience. Provide developmental opportunities for competitive fencers. Outcomes:

– By 2015 At least 3 BC coaches will have significant international experience

– By 2015 the BCFA will host a training camp prior to every Canadian National competition

– BY 2015 The BCFA will have a coach present at every Canadian National competition

– By 2015 every BCFA fencer who competes at the National level will be supported by the BCFA, either in the provision of direct or indirect funding, or access to coaching support or developmental opportunities

Providing Competitive opportunities for BC fencers

Outcomes: – By 2015 the BCFA Provincials Championships will

be recognized as a major tournament throughout BC, Western Canada and the Northwest United States

– By 2015 the BCFA will have hosted Western, National and International Tournaments
