OBJECTIVES OUTCOME The objective of the course is To provide knowledge and skills sufficient to allow students to understand the role of mathematical statistics in research. To develop skill in the basic methods of data gathering and analysis, to provide sufficient background to be able to interpret statistical results in research papers. To develop sufficient knowledge of probability and probability distributions to support further studies in statistics and quality control. Upon successful completion of the course, the outcomes are as follows: Obtain the knowledge to represent the data in statistical form. Understand and apply basic methods of measures of central tendency Able to correlate the given data in different methods Able to use graphical and algebraic methods to obtain the optimal solution for the problem. Understand and Implement the methods of standard distributions in real life situations.

BMA213 BUSINESS STATISTICS

Goal The principle aim of this course is to provide students with a solid grounding in Probability theory and mathematical statistics.

Time Series – Component of Time Series – Graphical Method – Semi Average Method – Method of Least Square – Moving Average Method – Seasonal Variation.

Unit 2: Index Numbers

Index Numbers – Aggregative and Relative Index – Chain and Fixed Index – Wholesale Index – Cost of Living Index.

Unit 3: Probability

Probability – Addition and Multiplication Theorem – Conditional probability – Baye’s Theorem (without proof) – Simple problems.

Unit 4: Testing of Hypothesis

Sampling Techniques – Types of Sample and Sampling procedures – Tests of Significance – Normal, t, F, Chi –square – Simple problems.

Unit 5: Correlation and Regression

Correlation: Rank correlation coefficient – Regression.
