New BBC Church Member Brother Darrell Nelson from Meriden, CT has recently joined Bible Baptist Church. We are thankful for his identification with the assembly. The Lord is the One Who sets members in the body of Christ, as Paul revealed, saying, “But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him” (I Cor. 12:18). Brother Nelson was one of several visitors who have been regularly attending the church.

Reasons To Pray Devotional Corner“Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask,

and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full” John 16:24

We pray in order to get saved. “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13). The Lord wants us to call upon Him to save us. Therefore, if we do not ask the Lord to save us, we do not get saved.

We pray in order to have fellowship with Christ. “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can

ye, except ye abide in me” (John 15:4). An abiding relationship is a two-way communication: the Lord to us through His word, and we to the Lord in prayer.

We pray in order to have power with God. “These all continued

with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren” (Acts 1:14).

“And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness” (Acts 4:31).

We pray in order to get strength in times of dis-couragement. “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31). The Psalmist wrote, “The LORD is the strength of my life” (Psalm 27:1).

We pray in order to get help. Regarding provision, “Ye have not because ye ask not” (James 4:3). The Palmist prayed, “LORD, be thou my helper” (Psalm 30:10). Sometimes that prayer of help is for guidance, direction and wisdom as Solomon prayed for at the dedication of the Temple, or as James tells us to ask for. “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” (James 1:5).

We pray in order to intercede on the behalf of others. Samuel calls it sin if we don’t, “God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you” (1 Samuel 12:23). Our example is the Lord Jesus, who even now makes intercession for us, “at the right hand of God” (Romans 8:34). The apostle Paul instructs young Timothy on prayer with the Greek imperative, “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men” (1 Timothy 2:1).

There are many reasons given in the Bible for why we should pray. These are just a few of them. However, our text tells us, if we want joy, we can find it through prayer. This is a heavenly promise of joy that comes from prayer and the promise of Jesus Christ. -CAR

John Broadus

“To teach our distinctive views is a duty we owe to the unbelieving world. We want unbelievers to accept Christianity; and it seems to us they are more likely to accept it when presented in its primitive simplicity, as the apostles themselves offered it to the men of their time.”

On June 13 three of the BBC homeschooling families celebrated the end of another school year with a picnic at J. B. Williams Park in Glastonbury. The day started out warm, but overcast with a few showers. It ended with all out downpours of rain! The kids loved it! The outing included fishing, picnicking, and playing on the playground. Almost all the children caught a fish in the pond. The Lord surely gave us a great day of fun and fellowship!
