The Great Escape Mustang Sanctuary.
The Great Escape Mustang Sanctuary (GEMS) is a 501c3 non-profit organization created to promote and preserve the mustang as a revered icon and encourage the value of the equine-human relationship.
The statistics are staggering... Close to 82,000 mustangs and burros living wild on their native ranges. Over 48,000 mustangs and burros in
holding facilities nationwide. 26,715 is the appropriate management level (AML) determined by the Bureau of Land Management for mustangs
and burros living on the range. Over $49 million tax-payer dollars spent per year on off-range holding costs. Something has to be done, a new
model has to be explored.
We are that new model.
We an innovative model working with the Bureau of Land Management and other key organizations for both on range and off range collaboration for healthy herds, lands, and homes for mustangs.
Off range, GEMS provides training and adoption of Mustangs and Burros, while providing a sanctuary for those animals in need. We foster a connection with children and adults through community outreach, tours, field trips, overnight retreat programs, therapeutic programs and clinics in order to increase public awareness and education.
On range, our organization is responsible for herd documentation, fertility control, gather support and promotion of proper wild horse management.
The Great Escape Mustang Sanctuary found it's legs to stand and run in 2011, with the vision and passion of Gerhard K. Sander. He is greatly
missed everyday, but his spirit is guaranteed to live on through the animals they save. Today, carrying on his dream and vision is his proud
daughter, along with the expertise and helping hands of the incredible Great Escape team.
The Boots, Buckles and Bourbon fundraising weekend will be held on November 3 & 4, 2018 in Denver, CO. The weekend will feature
educational awareness for the plight of the mustang, treasures for auction/raffle, delicious food and spirits, down home bluegrass entertainment
and a live demonstration by Mary Miller Jordan, renowned Mustang trainer. The proceeds will support the critical needs of our daily operational
expenses and supplement our training and adoption program, the most successful way to bring horses out of holding and into homes.
Over 350 Mustangs have come through our doors in the last 3 years, from holding facilities and into homes. Our model is working. Thank you for
your partnership in making a difference.
Tickets for Boots, Buckles and Bourbon are $100 per person with sponsorships beginning at $250.
