Green Communica onfor Sustainable Development has come in an appliedcontext in the communica on studies. The

importance of the same gained momentum whenthe concept of development passed throughvarious phases and evolved as sustainabledevelopment, encompassing almost all spheres ofhuman life. This new concept has widened thescope of development signicantly. While theearlier concept of development was meant byand large for the Third World countries ,sustainable development is for the en re globe andinto a distant future, calling for intra genera onaland inter genera onal equity, demanding thepar cipa on of people from individual to global

levels. The communica on poten ali es of manalso increased manifold. Though sustainabledevelopment is over a decade old concept andcon nues to be the only solu on for healthy andproduc ve life into a distant future, propera en on has not been paid to this aspect in

development communica on. The subjectsystema cally deals with various dimensions ofsustainable development and the importance ofgreen communica on in general and variouscommunica on channels in par cular in mee ngthe different goals of sustainable development.The concept of sustainable development hasoccupied a central place in every aspect of humanlife today. It is a mul dimensional and muldisciplinary concept covering almost all spheres ofhuman ac vity. Sustainable development hasbecome the concern of economists, ecologists,administrators, lawyers, communica on experts,environmentalists, human right ac vists, feminists,scien sts and NGO's. In other words, it has becomeeverybody's cup of tea. It is observed thatsustainable development is a coin which consists oftwo obliga ons on its two sides. One side is theallevia on of poverty and the other, the protec onof environment. Sustainable development is verymuch linked with the involvement and ac vepar cipa on of people. It is a holis c concept thatcan be on the global, na onal, local and individualscale. Green communica on is an interveningvariable without which the materializa on ofdifferent goals of sustainable development is notpossible. Therefore. green communica on has thekey role in facilita ng the par cipa on of peoplerela ng to sustainable development. The Na onalSeminar on the above subject is a humble and asincere effort in this direc on.
