Opening sequence to Bad Boys

First of all, when the movie fades from black to this screening of the Name of the Studio

that are distributing the film and may or may not have produced it. In Bad Boys Case, it

is Columbia. In the background they Pan across this sepia like sky background with a

fast pace reggae themed tune. This reggae themed tuned tells us that maybe the movie isbased around Black African Americans.

Here the shot changes from an air view of the clouds in the skies, down back to earth on a

the camera panning forwards as the water passes by. The reggae themed melody stillcontinues at that fast pace as it synchronizes with the film. The Credit comes with the

company who made the film.

The shot changes from the sea, to a wheel that is spinning, and here we hear sound that

we see on the screen, such as the cars tire screeching against the surface it is on.

We see MARTIN LAWRENCE is a principal actor from the credit on the screen.This is show for a few seconds and then

The shot changes to establishing shot, where we can see a car driving on a motorway

with all the lamps and lights giving us the theme, lines, jail.which results to police

drama.On the screen we see another main actor, Will Smith..

Then there are fast cuts of the car driving for 3 shots to emphasize on how fast the car is,

until the show this close up shot of Martin nodding his head in sync with the reggae tune.

This close up shows who the main character is, and what he looks like.

Then the camera cuts to a close up of will smith. This close up shows the audience what

the characters look like, and from this we see both have facial hair and are Black AfricanAmericans. Will Smith has got sun glasses on, showing that he is maybe the serious type,who acts cool and calm.

The camera then cuts to Martin again, but focusing on the food. This shows that this

character is unhealthy and maybe is the lazy, slack and funny cop in the movie. Wherein most cop movies you have the silly one and serious one, such as in Hot Fuzz.

The camera cuts to a 2- shot of the two characters, for the first time. We see Will hasnt

got his eyes on the road and is concentrating on his partners eating habits, as his dialogue

says why you eating burgers and we are not having a picnic shit in my car telling us thatWill is serious and has an expensive car. From the reverse shots- we can contrast the

characters, with one being a goof and the other serious. From the dialogue, we learn the

Martine is a married man and Will isnt.

The shot changes to an over the car shot, from the rear view, showing the car and the

location they are in, We see palm trees, and palm trees are only grown next to the beach.

The camera cuts to an extreme long shot, showing the background of trees and trees, andWill smiths Car on the left, being followed by a car on the right.

The two characters then have a conversation about cup holders, the use of language used

is quite funny and appealing, such are swear languages. Martin has a drink, and Will has

no Cup Holder, but a limited edition car, limited being

The opening sequence has some form of rude puns and swear words which are quite

funny, these are because they appeal to an audience (16+) and the audience will

understand and laugh. This also builds a connection between the audience and characters.The opening sequence at this point is quite light with humor.

The camera then cuts down to Martin dropping his Chips.

Will the stops the car and here music starts to build up. We do not know the two

characters are cops yet, but the audience will know from trailers and screenings.

As Will talks to Martin about getting the chips, the camera is at a hole shot, showing the

car we saw 30 seconds ago, appearing and parking. Here the music builds, and the

audience knows that some things going to go down.

The camera cuts, focusing on the car stopping, but keeping the continuity going. The

camera is focused on the Car behind, to show the audience that Will is not paying

attention.

The Camera cuts to the cars side doors, and we see a female personal getting out of thecar wearing a white dress, suggesting pure and sanity. Even though she is dressed like a

stereotypical prostitute.

We learn here that the female is a distraction as we saw 2 guys in the car before.

The female character walks to wards Wills Car.

The Camera then cuts to an over the shoulder shot, showing Will and Martin, still arguing

over the chips. In the background, on the window we see the figure of that mysteries

woman.

The camera then cuts to a high angle of the car, showing how sweet and expensive is,

contrasting to the female behind. The female walks infront of the Car to catch Wills

attention.

This look on Wills face, when the camera cuts to him shows the reaction towards the

female. This can suggest that Will has a soft spot for Females, and maybe that is hisweakness. This happens with Martin arguing not to pick up his chips.

The shot changes to show the female from Wills view, she takes of her glasses which

looks sexy and this is appealing to Will and the Audience.

From the female, the camera cuts to the side of the Car, with one big muscular African

American coming out. From this we as the audience learn that something bad is going tohappen.

This builds up to a tense scene from a light yet humor before.

Then from this angle and shot, we see that another white American male exits the car and

walks up to Wills parked Car.

As the female walks away, Will has his eyes on her, but his weakness led to him and hispartner being threatened with guns.

Here see Will and Martin are in a bad situatuation and in real life they would be screwed.

But Will and Martin deliver this awkward event in a different way by using insults,humor and bad language.

- Get out of the car, man. - Shit.

- What the fuck? - Me and my team have had a big week...

so just get the fuck out of the car.

Damn. What are you weighing, ?

I bet you're a big chicken-eating motherfucker.

- Get the fuck out. - I always get the big motherfuckers.

Despite the language, Will and Martin deliver this in a surprise way, as we as an

individual will not do this. This shows how confident the characters are and adds humor,as its more appealing.

We see here in this shot, the 2 officers are in a pickle, when they get out of the car, and

reverse shots and fast pace cutting is used here to build up the tension and out come, yet

using humor. The Tables Turn. (the two bad guys want Wills Car)

As they scene goes on, with guns being pointed to their heads, Will and Martin talk to

each other using rude language. This is appealing to the audience and builds up tension,as you wouldnt do this in a real life situation.

I just hang out with stupid-ass

friends that drive stupid-ass cars...

that attract a lot of motherfucking attention!

I need to jump over this car and smack you in your head.

Here the tables turn and the camera cuts to martin throwing his drink on the big guy. The

music here starts to go high tempo. Its ironic, with out the Cup holder they are better off.

Carrying the flow of continuity, the camera cuts to a two shot of Will elbowing the white

American in the face.

Martin then kicks the huge guy in the balls.

And the camera cuts to a medium shot of Martin and Will drawing their Gun.

A high angle shot, from the point of where the white guy fell, showing that Will is inpower with the Gun, and the guy on the floor is weak and vulnerable.

At this point we learn that these 2 main characters are cops.

But from these shots, we learn that Will dresses Smart and presentable, where as Martin

is dressed casually, this tells us something about our characters.

After Will saying now tell us a joke B*&&h, The title of the Film slams on to the screen.

With a skyline shot of the sky, that we saw in the first shot.

The camera then cuts to a establishing shot, showing the audience where the location isset, with a plane flying over it.

So from now, we can learn. This film is an action film, with 2 cops who are in Miami.

Miami is the place for action, drugs and ACTION!. As the audience will know, from

looking at stereotypical films, magazines, stories, books and comics. Like in CIA:MIAMI. Or MIAMI cop shows.

With the plane flown over the camera cuts to this Extreme Establishing shot of thelocation Miami, during dawn time. The tells us the time and location, before sun set.

On the screen we have more titles, such as actors Tea Leoni.

Then the camera cuts to a helicopter shot of the skyscrapers, with more star actors.

After the skyline clips of Miami, after Sun set, there is another skyline helicopter

establishing shot with titles on the screen. Once again. These are fast paced cuts toemphasize action and the event that is going to take place.A tense music is played in

the background which is fast paced and appealing.
