A Message From The Principal Throughout the term one we witnessed so many achievements. There were the obvious examples on the sporting field, in the pool, selection for the Whitten project or the Live4Life Crew, participation in the Courage to Care and the Full Steam Ahead projects and community involvement with Relay for Life to name a few. It is the examples that are less obvious that I want to highlight as we commence a new term: the students who went out of their way to welcome and support the year 7 students and the other new students to Bayview; those who offered comfort and solace to the staff and students who experienced loss and grief; the students who struggled to master a skill but persisted and persevered until they “got it”; the students who always say “yes, I can do that for you”. These wonderful young people actually make up the majority of our student body and those of us privileged to work here witness their compassion, grit and energy on a daily basis. Unfortunately Ms Katie Sabel will not be returning to Bayview College. She has been struggling with health issues since early in term one. Katie was only with us a very short time, however, in that time she made a positive impact on her students and colleagues. We wish her a speedy recovery. We are delighted that Mrs Emma Rudge has been with us filling in for Katie and I am pleased to announce that Emma will continue with us this term. This will provide the students with continuity in their studies. The recent holiday period provided us with an opportunity to relax, refresh and refocus. The Easter season, the most holiest of times in the Christian Calendar, saw many of us attending church services and reflecting on the core Easter meaning for us in the modern world. In our daily lives we can be signs and instruments of the loving, healing, restoring and saving presence of Jesus in the world or we can block and frustrate that presence by our own indifference. My hope and prayer this year is that all of us will recommit ourselves to walking in Jesus’ footsteps. In this way the promise and hope of Easter will not be a far -fetched dream, but rather a reality which like the mustard seed of which Jesus speaks in the Gospel begins in small and hidden ways but gradually grows into a vast tree which provides a home for everyone. A Message From The Principal Throughout the term one we witnessed so many achievements. There were the

obvious examples on the sporting field, in the pool, selection for the Whitten project or

the Live4Life Crew, participation in the Courage to Care and the Full Steam Ahead

projects and community involvement with Relay for Life to name a few.

It is the examples that are less obvious that I want to highlight as we commence a new

term: the students who went out of their way to welcome and support the year 7

students and the other new students to Bayview; those who offered comfort and

solace to the staff and students who experienced loss and grief; the students who

struggled to master a skill but persisted and persevered until they “got it”; the students

who always say “yes, I can do that for you”. These wonderful young people actually

make up the majority of our student body and those of us privileged to work here

witness their compassion, grit and energy on a daily basis.

Unfortunately Ms Katie Sabel will not be returning to Bayview College. She has been

struggling with health issues since early in term one. Katie was only with us a very short

time, however, in that time she made a positive impact on her students and

colleagues. We wish her a speedy recovery. We are delighted that Mrs Emma Rudge

has been with us filling in for Katie and I am pleased to announce that Emma will

continue with us this term. This will provide the students with continuity in their studies.

The recent holiday period provided us with an opportunity to relax, refresh and

refocus. The Easter season, the most holiest of times in the Christian Calendar, saw

On Harmony Day we had an emotional assembly. We were proud of the whole school and our student leaders for dedicating the day to the New Zealand crisis. A donation of NZD $291.09 was made to local charity United Way Glenelg who forwarded the donation to their sister charity, United Way New Zealand. One of our students, Nuzhat a proud Muslim spoke about being a Muslim and everyone living in unity no matter what your race or religion. On the following page is the last paragraph of her speech. One thing we can take out of this tragedy is

A cloudy overcast day greeted Bayview College students when they competed in the

Glenelg District Interschool Athletics carnival held on Friday 15th March at Island Park,

Casterton. In somewhat changeable weather conditions our athletes were able to

perform admirably, with 4 students winning a combined 4 events. Charlie Harvey was

the outstanding athlete for Bayview winning 2 events ( 800m and 1500m) and

gaining a further second and two thirds in other events. Sky Treble won the girls 12/13

Javelin, whilst Jennifer Cain was able to take out the Girls 15 year old Discus. Kellie

Brewster was able to gain two second placings in the Discus and Javelin and this effort

enabled her to place fifth in the open girl’s championship.

Both of Bayview College’s exchange students participated with Amelie Steenson taking

out three, fourth placings in each of the 400m, 800m and 1500m and a creditable 6th in

the hurdles (even though she had not completed in hurdles ever before). Madeline

Ottesen placing 6th in the 17 girls discus. From a team perspective the 15 year boys

came third and this strong showing enabled Bayview College to finish 7th place overall

despite not having a lot of senior competitors due to study commitments. Well done to

all competitors and we now look forward to four of our students participating in the

Western Zone Athletics championships to be held in Warrnambool on Monday 16th of

September.
