History In September of 1964, Bayside High School opened its doors for the very first time to students in the 8 th , 9 th , and 10 th grades, even though the building was still not finished. There were still no doors in the front of the building! Shortly after the opening of the school, a hurricane removed the roof of the 100 hallway. Despite the building setbacks of the first few years of existence, the Marlin family pulled together to create a school full of rich history and tradition. Traditions such as the Homecoming Parade and the Mr. Bayside Pageant have been essential parts of Bayside’s Heritage. The Homecoming Parade has seen many changes and innovations over the years, but Bayside remains one of the few schools in the district that continues the tradition of a community parade. Three years ago, the Homecoming Game was moved from Friday night to Saturday afternoon in order to encourage more community members and alumni to come out for the game. The Mr. Bayside Pageant first began 26 years ago and is still one of the Bayside Student Cooperative Association’s main events. Other staples in Bayside’s heritage include Powder Puff Football, Bayside High School Leadership Workshop, and many other events that students and the community look forward to each year. Bayside High School is also the proud home of the Health Sciences Academy, which is now in its thirteenth year of operation. This academy is open to all students who may be considering a career in the medical field, or any student with an interest in medicine.
