2015 SAE Aero Design East Competition
Faculty Advisor: Dr. Dulikravich
Problem Statement
Design and build a remote control airplane that can lift as much payload as possible while meeting the restrictions given by the organizers of the event.
Represent Florida International University in the SAE Aero Design Series competition.
Design Objectives
Implement numerical analysis and knowledge acquired in the design process to solve a real-life challenge.
Research in several aerodynamic designs by performing wind tunnel testing
Analyze design alternatives based on cost and manufacturing possibilities
Optimized aircraft to obtain higher efficiency
Regular Class Requirements
Maximum combined length, width, and height of 175 inches.
Aircraft may not weight more than fifty-five pounds with payload.
The use if Fiber-Reinforced Plastic (FRP) is prohibited.
Single electrical motor configuration.

Responsibilities Of each member
Conceptual Design
• High Wing
• Conventional Tail
• Rectangular Wings
Wing Structure
8 ft wingspan.
1 inch aluminum tube
Eppler 423 Airfoil.
Tail Structure
Small tail due to competition parameters.
Balsa ribs and sheeting.
Fuselage Structure
Balsa and Light Ply.Nose compartment (motor and battery).Body compartment (competition weight).
Environmental & Economic Aspects
Materials used are recyclable.
No environmental impact.
Materials are relatively inexpensive
Manufacturing is relatively straightforward
Global Learning
Weight carried can represent a high definition camera, a first aid kit, food, or any small package that needs to be delivered.
The airplane model can be expanded to mapping or delivery planes, and our design can be presented to manufacturers in other countries.
Translation of instructions, used materials, parts, manufacturing process and units so that our design can be employed in different areas of the world.
Standards
System-Level Standards:
Design is complaint to SAE Aero Design East 2015 rules and regulations.
Component-Level Standards:
Guidance provided by the SAE on component usage is followed.
