As Term 1 draws to a close we reflect on the extremely busy term we
have just completed. There have been many activities throughout the
school which have involved all students K-12. Our swimming carnival
was a successful day where we witnessed our older students supporting
young primary students in the pool. Students have represented our
school in the zone swimming carnival and also the highlands carnival.
There have been police talks where students were involved in
discussions about cyber safety, walking to school safely and
appropriate use of the internet.
Mr Piper took a team of students to play in the basketball competition at Wagga Wagga and
Mr Kass took our bowling team to Tumbarumba and Wagga Wagga to also compete in
school competitions.
The SRC ran a successful St Patrick’s Day Celebration in honour of Mrs Dodd and all
proceeds were donated to Can Assist. Well done to the Student Representative Council; Ms
Fallon and Ms Jones for supporting our students in this worthwhile fundraising activity. Our
SRC has many activities planned to run throughout the year and it is promising to witness
the commitment that these students have made this term.
Many students entered the Batlow Show, Mr Bell was in competition with his senior class
and it was a pleasure to view the entries at the show and see the skills our students
showcased.
Year 11 hospitality students catered for the morning tea and lunch for the show judges on
the Friday and they should be congratulated for their skills and maturity in managing this
function.
There are many clubs running throughout the term by teachers and students. These include
breakfast; Warhammer; reading and home learning. Teachers volunteer their time to
organise these activities for the students and I thank them for the dedication to our school
and students.
This week to end our term we held a sausage sizzle lunch on Wednesday with fun activities
in the afternoon and on Friday we will be having an Easter Hat parade and egg hunt for the
primary students. High school students will be involved in an amazing race organised by the
SRC.
I wish everyone a safe and restful break, and we look forward to
welcoming our students back on Tuesday 30 April 2019.

Principal’s Message
KINDERGARTEN/YEAR 1
Kindergarten and Year 1 have had a great first term. Students have made lots of new friends
through the social interactive play opportunities provided during “Friday Freedom”. They have also
demonstrated great growth in their learning over the term.
I am proud to watch as they develop great sportsmanship and teamwork skills to positively interact
with their peers.
Thank you for a great start to the year. Have a happy and healthy Easter break.
SCHOOL NEWS
YEAR 2/3/4 Students have been working hard on their Literacy and Numeracy. L3 stations are developing well
and the students are already becoming more independent learners. The variety of activities that
are planned means that all aspects of Literacy and some Numeracy can be covered in our
morning L3 two-hour session. Students were also given the opportunity to use Technology during
some sessions. We have been able to use the iPads in class to enhance our technology and
learning capabilities.
Cate, Lily and Connor engaged in using the iPads Cody and Connor doing Word Work
Amber and Leela enjoying the iPads after Chelsea doing Cuisenaire block building completing their “Must dos” in L3.
During Science at the beginning of Term 1, the students planted some Snow Pea seeds. We have
been monitoring and watering the seedlings, as well as looking into what plants need to survive in
science with Mrs Delany.
They have developed well over the last few weeks and the students will be bringing them home in
a little pot. We hope that the students can continue to care for them and see if they produce some
yummy peas for the whole family to eat.

ANNUAL WHOLE SWIMMING CARNIVAL First place winners for secondary, congratulations.
TRIPLE LAWN BOWLS GAMES TUMBARUMBA
On Friday 15 March 2019, Dylan Bates, Dylan Taylor, Ethan Irwin, Mr Kass, and I all travelled to Tumbarumba where we competed in the knockout triple lawn bowls competition. We arrived near lunch time, greeted the opposing team and began to have a little practise to warm up before we started. We saw the bowls of the opposing team and were a little nervous but we were confident. After warming up we shook hands and the competition started. They were good bowlers and we were very closely scored in the beginning. We
were not sure how it would go, it seemed very close, but with our determination as a team and the supportive words from Mr Kass we were able to pull a win with the final score being 4-29. We were very happy with our success and of course congratulated the Tumbarumba team for their great effort and good sportsmanship. We had a fun day and are eager for our next competition. WAGGA WAGGA On Tuesday 9 May 2019, Batlow Technology School Triples Bowls team
travelled to Wagga Wagga to compete against Wagga High School, in
the next stage of the knockout competition.
It was a very tough day at the
office, playing in some very
troubling conditions. Although the
team went down, they look
forward to correcting this performance in the triples bowls gala day,
later in the year.

Due to the closure of our school canteen on the last day of Term 1, 2019, we have made arrangements with Batlow Bakery to provide a lunch service, available on Mondays and Fridays for Term 2, 2019. Students wishing to order lunch will be required to drop their envelope or lunch bag with their name, class and order written on the front, please include the correct money with the order. The school will not be processing money, orders will be delivered to the bakery where they will be filled and money sorted. If you forget to order your child’s lunch, you would be very welcome to go to the bakery, place an order and pay for your child’s lunch and it will be included in the delivery which will be back to school in time for lunch break.

Batlow Craft Group meet every Tuesday from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm in the CWA rooms, Pioneer Street, Batlow, next door to the MPS building.
Bring your sewing, knitting or any other project that you are working on. If you would like to learn something there is usually someone there that can help you.
We also do patchwork, quilting and have friendship block days when we join other groups in our area for show and tell.
For just $2.00 a day we supply morning tea, warm and comfortable rooms and good company.
Bring your own lunch if you intend to stay for the day.

REPORT OF RINGWORM
“Ringworm is a common fungal infection
of the skin. It is very contagious and can
affect the scalp, face, body, feet or nails.
Children can pick up ringworm from
animals, other people and soil.
Ringworm is usually easy to treat and to
prevent spreading careful washing of
hands.
Do I need to keep my child home? Yes, until the day after fungal treatment has begun.”
