• Bata India is the largest retailer and leading manufacturer of footwear in India and is a part of the Bata Shoe Organisation. Incorporated as Bata Shoe Company Private Limited in 1931, the company was set up initially as a small operation in Konnagar (near Calcutta) in 1932.
• The Company went public in 1973 when it changed its name to Bata India Limited. Today, Bata India has established itself as India's largest footwear retailer. Its retail network of 1250 stores gives it a reach/ coverage that no other footwear company can match. • Atmospherics of the store:
Colour : the colours used are white for walls ceilings and table, cream for the floor, red sofas.
Music: no music is played. Lighting: well lit, use of white lights staff uniform: red shirt and black pant.
• The best selling product line----- ladies and children fancy bags and shoes.
• The worst or slow moving product------ sandex slippers.
Promotions/ ads / discounts:• Sale period occurs once after every 6 months,
the discount of merchandise range from 15 upto 50 %.
• Ownership of bata stores are given in the form of franchise, but only for the employees of bata, not outsiders.
• The company doesn’t offer any customer loyalty programs as it is a 100 years old centurion company and doesn’t feel the need for such offers. It believes it has stood the test of time and have the goodwill of the people.
