    BRITISH AMERICAN TOBACCO BANGLADESH (BATB)

    British American Tobacco Bangladesh is one of the largest multinational

    companies in the country.

    It has been operating for over 100 years.British American Tobacco

    Bangladesh Company Limited was incorporated under the Companys

    Act 1913 on 2ndFebruary 1972

    Today BATB has over 1,000 employees. The Company has been exporting

    tobacco to markets in developed countries like UK, Germany, Poland,

    Russia and New Zealand.

    . Responsibility to the shareholders, employees, business partners,

    customers and any other stakeholders is the core of BATBs business and

    that is why BATB believes success and responsibility go together.4

    Entry level candidates require a certified university degree or

    equivalent forms of degrees; usually with a CGPA of 3.00 or above.

    They strictly focus on the candidates with good academic qualifications.

    People with good grades might not be good at extra curriculum activities or

    other things like team work, verbal comprehension.

    Weakness of Selection Process

    Sometimes there is rescheduling the interviews or assessments.

    BATB HR always gives the exact time to the candidate, but sometimes delay

    are faced in interview or assessment because of busy workload.

    Sometimes common personnel are taking the interviews or assessments

    and so proper tests/interviews, etc. are not performed.

    The method which is used to perform the introduction process is

    sometimes seen to be confusing or complicated because at times

    there is miscommunication or lack of understanding of the subjects

    of orientation which leads to confusion or complications in the

    future for both employers and employees

    The training processes can sometimes be conducted by the wrong person

    or using the wrong methods which instead of benefiting the employee

    sometimes creates demotivation as employees face difficulties inunderstanding what they are actually being asked to do and so they may

    feel they are being treated poorly by the organization or being ignored

    which in return can cause demotivation.

    Suggestions for Improvement in HRM activities

    BATB can plan more campus recruitments.

    Should focus on qualities which go beyond just on good grades and

    high CGPAs

    BATB HR should monitor the performance to confirm whether their

    selection process is effective or not.

    Should perform better reference checking

    Try to be on schedule for the tests and interviews and provide more

    expert assistance where required

    Should overcome the problem of assessors unavailability.

    BATB should not be biased towards some particular institutions.

    They should also provide proper and welcoming orientation

    programs for all candidates.

    CONCLUSION

    British American Tobacco is one of the reputed multinational

    companies in Bangladesh. They have continued their business with

    good reputation. This has been possible due to skilled manpower,

    which has been developed by taking proper recruitment and

    selection strategies and giving sufficient training and development

    opportunities and also retaining their employee through providing

    adequate compensation and benefit .BATB is functioning very well

    and we hope that it will continue its operations and will become the

    role model of the Human Resource Management practices of

    Bangladesh.
