Registration Deadline March 31st
Project Week is May 18 – 24! This great BASIS tradition will be quite an adventure for all
the students.
Schedule for the Week:
Kindergarten 8:00 to 1:00
1st and 2nd grade 7:45 to 12:45
3rd and 4th 8:00 to 1:00
All of the days are Early Release, however Late Bird will be available until 3:30 for $20
per day per child. This fee does not apply to students already registered in Late Bird.
Grading
The goal of project week is to challenge students to be cooperative, creative learners
and to function as a team to achieve specific goals. Project Week is graded Pass/Fail;
students who do not participate in project week must complete an independent study
project determined and approved by the Director of Academic Programs (Dean
Wilkins). Students who fail the project are required to complete an assigned alternative
summer project.
In order to be promoted to the next grade, students have to receive a Pass on the project.
Fees
All fees are due at the time of selection on the website. An email with links will be
provided next week with instructions and links for sign-up. Projects are first come serve
so keep an eye out for the email.

Description of Project: Hello everyone! Do you like eating Chinese
food? Have you ever tried delicious dumplings, steamed buns or sticky rice balls…?
Come join us at Ms. Huang and Ms. Lu’s Beyond Mandarin Project Week- we will learn
something interesting about the significance of Chinese food and the traditions
through cooking and tasting traditional Chinese food, watching movies such as Kongfu
Panda, and learning some facts from our food and culture documentaries etc.. We will
have lots of fun! Looking forward to having you!
NOTE: Authentic Chinese food may contain meat or common food allergens.

Description of Project: Let’s Work Together!
Do you love playing games? Do you love to work in a team? Do you love to laugh? (Of
course you do!) Do you like to think creatively? Well then this is the project for you! We will
be having fun challenges and games throughout project week, such as Hungry Human
Hippos, Hoopla Hoop Relay Racing, and much, much more! We’ll play your favorite games
and introduce you to new ones as well! You will also learn how to work in a team and solve
big problems with easy solutions! If this project sounds like something that interests you
then LET’S WORK TOGETHER!
BUTTERFLY METAMORPHOSIS Grades: 1, 2
Instructors: Ms. Oltchick and Ms. Anguiano

Description of Project:
Learn about each precious stage in the life cycle of a butterfly! We will research,
observe, graph, build models, make arts and crafts and engage in fun activities all
related to caterpillars and butterflies. We will even watch a movie about the amazing
migration of the monarch butterfly from Michoacán, Mexico up into Northeast
America, and back again.

Description of Project: ATTENTION!! All 3rd and 4th Grade students! Are you
interested in learning all about the process of butterfly metamorphosis? Are you
eager to find out more about host plants and what butterflies eat? If so, you NEED
to join Ms. Johnson and Ms. Clark this project week to have a magical experience
learning about butterflies and other various plants and animals. We will have daily
arts and crafts, various butterfly art projects, and you will even get to make your
very own mason jar butterfly terrarium! Once again, if you want to enjoy a week
filled with fun, exciting, and interactive activities you need to join Ms. Clark and Ms.
Johnson for Butterfly Metamorphosis!
CELEBRATION OF THE ARTS Grades: 1, 2
Instructors: Ms. Moore and Ms. Steiner
Fee: $25
Description of Project: Come and join our fun filled week of drawing, painting, dancing,
acting, magic, and relaxation. On day 1, students will create an art project inspired by
their favorite artists. On day 2, students will have a guest speaker share the art of story-
telling. On the same day, they will have the opportunity to take a ballroom dance
lesson from a professional dancer. On day 3, students will watch excerpts from various
films and then perform skits with their fellow peers. On the last day, a magic show will
be performed where students will be exposed to the art of magic. Following the magic
show, we will finish out the week with yoga practices and methods of relaxation. We
look forward to seeing you for Fine Arts week at BCPNC!
COMMUNITY SERVICE Grades: 3, 4
Instructors: Ms. Orlowski and Ms. Smith
Fee: Free
Description of Project: In the spirit of caring, students will learn how they can make a
real difference in the lives of others and their community. Each day, we will explore
various ways of helping out, such as picking up litter in a nearby park, comforting an
elderly person by creating cheerful artwork, or collecting toys for children in need. This
is a great way for students to become an active participant in our community, learn
more about the world beyond them, and enrich the lives of others!
DESERT SURVIVAL SKILLS Grades: 3, 4
Instructors: Ms. Jackson and Ms. Jarrett
Fee: $25
Description of Project: Prepare yourself to survive in our harsh desert climate by
learning about first aid, the plants and animals found in the desert and basic
survival skills necessary for outdoor adventures. We’ll discuss what to include in a
camping pack, ways to find and purify water, and try out different camp foods.
Outdoor enthusiasts won’t want to miss this project or our trip off campus!
DESIGNING A THEME PARK Grades: 2, 3, 4
Instructors: Ms. Foley and Ms. Trujillo
Fee: $25
Description of Project: We will be researching the inner workings of how theme parks
are developed, designed, and created. We will watch the Disney Park
Series/Disneyland documentary to gather this information. Students will then use their
newfound knowledge to design and develop their own version of a theme
park. Students will engage their creativity and imagination to design exciting rides,
themes, and appropriate jobs needed to keep their parks in motion. Students will then
present their final projects during the final project showcase.
ENRICHMENT OF SPORTS Grades: 3, 4
Instructors: Coach Jahrman and Coach Liebau
Fee: Free
Description of Project: Sports are FUN, and this project week “sports camp” will expose
students to a different sport or physical activity each day. Learn the rules, strategies,
study film, play new sports, and become a more inspired athlete. BCPNC Wide World of
Sports provides the perfect opportunity to improve skills, make new friends, laugh hard,
and smile a lot. The week will end with Gold, Silver and Bronze at the BCP Olympics!!
FAIRY TALE ADVENTURES Grades: 1, 2
Instructors: Ms. Maurer and Ms. Sideris
Fee: $25
Description of Project: Calling all adventurers with huge imaginations to Basis
Primary North! Students will be “entering the land of fairy tales” and exploring
forests with bears; becoming friends with a duck; dreaming with a princess; baking
with a hen; and sneaking up on a wolf! We will be listening to fun fictional stories,
eating popcorn, and watching fairy tale videos. Each and every student will be
able to explore five well-known fairy tales and do active projects with their peers
and create cool crafts. Students will be creating posters displaying the
moral/lesson learned from each story – becoming even more amazing Basis
students! It’s going to be a Bibbidy Bobbidy Boo good time!
EXPLORE GLOBAL FASHIONS Grades: 3, 4
Instructors: Ms. Manjula and Ms. Rajivan
Fee: $25
Description of Project: Get ready to travel!!!!...... In our imaginary time lapse
machine…. we will walk around the globe and explore different continents to learn
their clothing patterns and fashion. We will research using movies and books to find
how geological, social and cultural behaviors has sculpted the fashion in our world.
We will then create a journey poster using colors, paint, imagination and creativity.
Also compose a personal journal for each day’s travel to record our thoughts and
findings.
FOOD AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY Grades: 1, 2, 3, 4
Instructors: Ms. Campbell and Ms. Wilkey
Fee: $35
Description of Project: Do you love eating? Do you love being active? Do you want to
make lots of yummy snacks and go on fun athletic adventures? Then Food, Fitness, and
Fun is for you! On the first day, we’ll be learning all about FRUIT. We’ll be trying lots of
new fruit, and even making a fruit pizza! Then we’ll burn off some of that natural sugar
with a funky fitness routine. On the second day, it’s all about VEGGIES. We’ll be taste-
testing different vegetables, and even planting our own little vegetable to take home
(prepare to get your hands dirty!). In the afternoon, we’ll be “vegging out” with some
relaxing Yoga and Pilates. On the third day, it’s time to go NUTS! We will be making trail
mix and going for a fun “hike” around campus. On the fourth day, we all scream for ice
cream! After learning about dairy, we’ll be making homemade ice cream and
watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to learn the importance of consuming
sweets in moderation. The last day will be a potluck filled with healthy foods that YOU
make at home and share with the class. We’ll also be watching some fun food movies
like Ratatouille. Come hungry! *due to the exploratory nature of this project, please do
not sign up if your child has any food allergies
FORENSIC SCIENCE Grades: 3, 4
Instructors: Ms. Avila and Ms. Slugh
Fee: $25
Description of Project: Do you like solving mysteries? If so, please join us to travel
back in time and learn everything there is to know about forensic science. We will
transform into forensic scientists right here at Basis Chandler Primary North Campus!
Throughout the week our scientists will be learning a new forensic concept,
followed by hands on activities related to the topic we learned about that day.
Some of the hands on activities we will be doing include: dusting for fingerprints,
candy DNA models, invisible ink, solving a week long “who did it” mystery and so
much more. Will you be able to solve the mystery?
FUTURE DOCTORS Grades: 1, 2
Instructors: Ms. Herbert and Ms. Kamat
Fee: $25
Description of Project: Students will be introduced to human anatomy, which will
educate them on how organs and other structures of the body work. Anatomical
concepts will include respiratory system (lungs), circulatory system, central nervous
system (brain and spinal cord), and teeth. Along with learning, hands-on projects
will be introduced such as making playdough brain and neuron, egg carton spinal
cord, inflatable lung experiment, and knowing the difference between deciduous
(milk) and permanent teeth. Additionally, students will demonstrate the ability to
use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health. Students will exhibit the
ability to advocate for personal, family, and community health. Therefore, students
will develop a sense of whole body.
INSIPRE HEALTHY LIVING Grades: 1, 2
Instructors: Ms. Curtiss and Ms. Valenti
Fee: $35
Description of Project: Do you like eating? Do you like cooking? Do you like
exercising and running around? Well, if you answered yes to any of those questions
then this is the club for you! Come and join us as we learn how to create delicious
treats that are not only yummy, but good for you too! In this fun club you will have
the opportunity to exercise your body, mind, and your appetite. There will be
measuring, using time, writing, and working in a cooperative group. We are so
excited to have you join us as we cook, read, exercise, and write our own recipe
books!
KINDERGARTEN EVERY DAY HEROS Grades: Kindergarten ONLY
Instructors: Ms. Ashley, Ms. Leckey, Ms. Martinez, and Ms. Smith

Description of Project: Kindergarteners will be exploring EVERY DAY HEROES this week!
We will be focusing on community workers who are our SUPERHEROES! We will learn
about what they do, where they work, and how they help us to learn and grow. We will
be concentrating on firefighters, police officers, doctors and nurses. We will have
several FUN projects to create celebrating these wonderful people who help other
people. Our field trip to the IDEA Museum in Mesa on May 23rd will incorporate the
theme of: Caped Crusaders and Everyday Heroes. Kindergarteners are flying UP UP
AND AWAY INTO FIRST GRADE!!
MONSTERS UNIVERSITY Grades: 1, 2
Instructors: Ms. Sloan and Ms. Waldroop
Fee: $25
Description of Project: Calling all scarers to Basis Primary North! Students will be taking
scaring lessons, roaring lessons, and making their own monster masks. We will be eating
popcorn and watching Monster’s Inc and Monster’s University. Each and every student
will be able to learn about their personal ideas about how to create and learn outside
of the scare floor. Students will be putting their lessons into play with presentations on
their personal monster they create! It is going to be a monster of a time, come join us
on the scare floor!!
PLAY WRITER’S CLUB Grades: 3, 4
Instructors: Ms. Alcantara and Ms. Price
Fee: Free
Description of Project: What do you think it takes to make a movie? In the Screen
Writers Club, students will learn about the different roles and tasks that it takes to make
it in the filming industry. After exploring the different roles, students will pick the area
where they would like to become an expert. Students will transform into directors,
screen writers, actors, prop managers, sound and music producers, and costume
coordinator. Join us during project week to discover, explore and create the magic.
SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS Grades: 1, 2
Instructors: Ms. Armita and Ms. Chien
Fee: $25
Description of Project: Our science projects provide fun, interactive and educational
hands-on activities that instill a clearer understanding of science and how it affects the
world around us. Through these projects, students in 1st and 2nd grade are able to
touch, see, hear, feel and taste what science is all about. Each day, students will make
and take home a small project that they were dealing with. Join us if you love and
want to learn more about science!
SHAKESPEARE FOR KIDS Grades: 2, 3, 4
Instructors: Ms. Moyer and Ms. Rogers
Fee: $25
Description of Project: Come join Shakespeare for Kids and star in a Shakespeare
play! We will learn about Shakespeare's life, his sonnets, and his plays. We will write
our own Shakespeare sonnets and read the hilarious play Much Ado About
Nothing. After reading the play, students will audition for parts, learn their
lines, make their own costumes and sets, and finally act out the play for their
parents! So come join us for an experience you'll always remember.
