ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
Catholics can make an Act of Spiritu-
al Communion.
It has long been a Catholic under-
standing that when circumstances
prevent one from receiving Holy
Communion, it is possible to make an
Act of Spiritual Communion which is
a source of grace. Spiritual Commun-
ion means uniting one’s self in prayer
with Christ’s sacrifice and worship-
ing Him in His Body and Blood. The
most common reason for making an
Act of Spiritual Communion is when
a person cannot attend Mass. Acts of
Spiritual Communion increase our
desire to receive sacramental Com-
munion and help us avoid the sins
that would make us unable to receive
Holy Communion worthily.
An Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus,
I believe that You
are present in the Most Holy Sacra-
ment. I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my
soul. Since I cannot at this moment
receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my
heart.
I embrace You as if You were already
there and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated
from You. Amen.
