NOVEMBER by Margaret Morgan
Now is November, Trees are nearly bare;
Red and fold and brown leaves Scattered everywhere.
Dark now, are the morning Cold and frosty too;
Damp and misty evenings Chill us through and through
Busy are all creatures,
Winter food to hide; Nests to make all cozy Warm and sage inside.

Anti-Basileus Report
Greetings Sorors!
We are bringing to a close another year of service to our community. BSO has continued to make an impact.
Thank you to Soror Gayle Caldwell and the rest of the Connection committee for all of your efforts for the "Be The Voice" campaign. Most recently they coordinated the "Go Vote" yard signs and participated in the March to the Polls. BSO really represented!
We also had an AKA impact day which was "Childhood Hunger Awareness Day." Thank you to our chairman, Soror Carlisa Curry, vice-chairman, Soror Tara Williams and the Public Affairs committee for organizing this initiative. Several sorors visited a youth center where they were educated on healthy eating on a budget and played games.
Please see the information below from the Education committee regarding backpacks for the November meeting.

Our November Chapter meeting will be full of business and plenty of bountiful food. This year, I would like us to carry out the business of BSO and include a wonderful Thanksgiving luncheon. My Eboard team will be responsible for all meat items. We are asking all other sorors, to provide sides, drinks, eating utensils, and deserts. We are dividing up by last names as follows:
If your last name begins with: A - F bring sides (potatoes, vegetables, salads, etc) G - L bring deserts (cakes, pies, cookies, cupcakes, etc) M - R brings drinks (bottle water, sodas, ice, coolers etc) S - Z brings paper goods (table cloths, plates, cups, silverware, napkins, trash bags, etc)

Please provide enough food for 60-100 sorors. Contacting your leader, will ensure we do not have too much of one item. The Alphabet Leaders will communicate with Soror Marie what each person has committed to bring.
We are looking forward to a full agenda and now we will not have to worry about being hungry as we review and vote on action items.
Remember sorors, this is a voluntary contribution of food. You will be able to eat if you are NOT able to prepare/bring food. Thanks in advance for your preparation.

November-1 Chronicles 16:34 (NIV)
34 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever
Sorors remember to celebrate our many blessings this Thanksgiving! Remember that despite the challenges and diffi-
culties that come into our lives to “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever" 1 Chronicles 16:34
(NIV)
Spiritual Support The power of God within you is greater than the pressures of troubles around you. Our power to survive challenges re-
sides not in us but with God, who dwells within us. Christians are not exempt from the punches that life throws at us, or
from the storms that inevitably threaten our stability. With full confidence in God’s power to sustain us in all circum-
stances, we can say with Paul, “We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in des-
pair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed” (2 Corinthians 4:8-9).
Save the Date: The Cultured Pearls of Springfield Interest Group has been approved for chartering! The chartering ceremony and celebration will be held on Saturday, December 10. Beta Sigma Omega chapter will be receiving an electronic invitation shortly.

MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION - Chapter dues due to corporate office by January 1. Sorors, our submission of paperwork for Membership Intake Process will be submitted mid-January. If you want to sponsor or co-sponsor someone, it is advised to pay your dues by January 1, 2017.
EDUCATIONAL ADVANCEMENT FOUNDATION - The educational Advancement Foundation succeeds through generosity of friends, corporate and community supporters and sorors like us. Generous contributions make it possible for individuals from all walks of life to complete a program of study, obtain seed money to transform an idea into a reality or start of complete a research project. Making a difference would not be possible without the commitment of EAF donors. With that being said, wouldn’t you like to make PLATIUM LEVEL 2017? We need to raise
$1500.00 over and above the $500.00 we give every year. WE CAN DO THIS AGAIN!! More information to come from our Second Anti-Basileus & EAF Captain, Soror Ameyka Pittman.
ELECTION DAY - Beta Sigma Omega has done it again! You should be proud of yourselves. We rocked the polls. We showed up & showed out to get out the vote. Many of you took family members to the polls, provided rides to the polls, assist with the return of absentee ballots, remind people to vote, provided registration and education information and Vote! Thanks for doing your part!
Pink & Green Presence In addition to the Be the Voice signs, make or purchase signs with slogans such as “Vote”; “Today is Election Day”; “Have you voted today? etc. Beta Sigma Omega selected high volume traffic intersections, walking, waving, carrying signs to remind citizens today to vote. Way to go BSO!!!
Public Affairs and ASCEND students will go to the Regional Food Bank, Tuesday December 13th from 6:30pm- 8:30pm to box food and other activities planned to help Oklahoma families. 15 volunteers are needed. Please see Soror Carlisa Curry at the November sorority meeting to sign up!

PEARLS of PROTOCOL for CHAPTER MEMBERS
Protocol for Chapter Members Characteristics Of A Second
Century Leader -Maintains proper decorum in business meetings Second Century Leaders have integrity, and are
trustworthy, Honest and candid. Today’s leader has the
ability to inspire others to act by:
-Dresses appropriately -Fostering collaboration
-Arrives before the official start time -Involving others in the process
-Silence all electronic communication devices -Creating an atmosphere of trust and respect
-Speaks only when recognized by the presiding
officer.
-Empowering other.
-Projects voice or moves to a microphone when
speaking so everyone can hear.
Second Century Leaders lead by example and establish
and maintain a culture of trust and opportunity for
participation of all members.
-Addresses the [residing officer before speaking
(Example: Madam Basileus, I move that…)
A few basic principles for establishing and maintaining
culture of trust include:
-Respects the Alpha Kappa Alpha Protocol and
Order of Rank
1. Lead by example.
-Keeps remarks brief and concise 2. Seek first to understand and them to be under-
stood; clarifying rather than persuading is the goal.
-Accepts the decision of the majority. 3. Focus on the issue and interest related to it, not on the
individual. Successful dialogue requires differing points
of view be explored without the fear of personal attack.
-Avoids individual conversations during meetings. 4. Keep all players strong---commit to the success of
team members. Competition among members of a team
can be motivating and healthy if done with sisterly
intentions. Recognition that focuses on the team’s
accomplishment of its own goals is more likely to inspire
trust than recognition that singles out individuals, since
no team is stronger than its weakest member, rely on
collaborating to build capacity as a major strategy to keep
all players strong.
-Avoids bringing children to business meetings
(unless allowed by chapter)
-Avoids walking during meditation periods.

The Leadership Development Committee designed by Soror Gloria Wilson; Co-chaired by Sorors
Joyce Henderson and Vivian Miller and all members of the Basilei Council Team were delighted to
report and be a part of the planning of activities to help all members, including present leaders and

learning curve. The Basilei Council committee was anxious to plan, but looked to you, BSO mem-
bers, for input and suggestions for the workshops, topics and to serve as presenters in your areas of
