LIGHTING CONTROLS
COURSE FEE: $200 FEB 24, AUG 4
This one day course is focused on the basics of lighting controls. Through this program participants will
gain an understanding of various control solutions including motion sensing, daylight harvesting, panel-
based lighting control systems, and wireless lighting control systems. In addition, participants will also
be exposed to the current legislation and building codes, such as ASHRAE, IECC, and California’s Title 24,
that are changing the controls landscape. At the end of this course participants should be able to identify
opportunities in various applications for a lighting control system, specify the control requirements
based on the lighting fixture criteria, and recommend an appropriate solution based on the application
requirements.
FUNDAMENTALS OF LIGHTING COURSE FEE: $500 MAR 4-6, MAY 20-22, SEPT 9-11, DEC 9-11
Designed for professionals new to the lighting industry or seasoned professionals looking for a refresher,
this three-day workshop focuses on the fundamental principles of lighting and introduces today’s latest
advancements in lighting technology. Through hands-on training and real-world applications, we take an
interactive approach to educating our participants in general lighting terminology, lamps and ballasts,
solid-state lighting technology, light, vision, and color, optical control, and basic application principles.
LIGHTING EXTERIOR ENVIRONMENTS
COURSE FEE: $200 MAR 25
This workshop will focus on the design basics and principles of exterior lighting systems. Through a
combination of hands-on learning and application analysis, you will learn basic design principles for general
outdoor lighting including parking lot, parking garage, roadway, pathway and egress lighting applications.
Additionally, participants will examine current technologies in luminaires, light sources, as well as driver
and ballast technology. Participants will also learn about design considerations related to legislation, the
International Dark Sky Association (IDA), safety and security, and the IES/IDA Model Lighting Ordinance
(MLO).
LIGHTING SOLUTIONS CENTER
LEDS & EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES
COURSE FEE: $350 APRIL 1-2
This two-day course will discuss the evolving LED market and the speed at which LEDs are quickly being
integrated into general lighting applications. Participants will gain fundamental knowledge of solid-state
lighting components, a basic understanding of LED system design and performance metrics such as
lifetime, efficacy and application efficiency. Participants will gain an understanding of the evolving design
approaches taken with contemporary LED luminaires and gain additional insight into LED optical design,
drivers, thermal management, printed circuit boards, surge suppression, the integration of controls and
dimming. Additional topics covered include, emerging technologies, related energy codes and legislation
and energy efficiency programs.

LIGHTING FOR INDUSTRIAL SPACES
COURSE FEE: $200 JUN 24
According to Department of Energy studies, industrial spaces consume nearly one-third of all energy used
in the United States. Estimates show lighting in these industrial spaces to be of significant age, many
20 years or older. As upgrades are considered, lighting offers the fastest internal rate of return with the
lowest initial investment. This course will explore the best lighting solutions for new and existing spaces.
Participants will explore existing and emerging lamp technologies to understand the best approach to take
for industrial applications. Further discussion will include lighting audits, incentives, economics, current
legislation, and future innovation. This course is ideal for facilities managers, facilities owners, industrial
consultants, energy service providers, engineers, and all other industry consultants.
RELIGHT/RETROFIT WORKSHOP COURSE FEE: $350 MAY 6-7, OCT 7-8
With rising costs in energy and an increased focus on sustainability, building managers and owners are
challenged to find new ways to reduce these costs and the resulting environmental impact. Studies show
that 30% of a typical building’s energy use is consumed by lighting. As a result, lighting has been targeted
as a key opportunity to improve building efficiency, reduce maintenance and energy-related costs and
improve employee productivity. Through this two-day workshop, participants will gain additional insight
into new and emerging relight and retrofit strategies, emerging technology trends, related energy and
lighting legislation as well as the basics of conducting an energy audit and methods for effectively
relighting or retrofitting various interior and exterior applications.
