1. Opening a new blank template: FILE > NEW
* If you intend to have a landscape cover page: IMAGE >
ROTATE CANVAS > 90oCW

2. If your template has no rulers on the top and left side: VIEW
> RULERS
* Rulers are useful as it acts as a guideline in placing your
fonts / images
Right click on any side of the ruler and drag theguidelines out
(do not lift your finger from the mouse untilyou are satisfied with
the position of the guideline)

3. Inserting image into the template
a. Open the images in photoshop:- double click on the grey
background or FILE > OPEN
b. To bring image over to the template:- left click on the image
and do not release the mouse while dragging the
image over to the template

4. Adjusting the image:a. Ensure that the two boxes on the upper
left hand side has a tick in themb. Left click on one of the sides
(e.g. red dot) + press shift / both shift + alt atthe same time to
adjust the image (this would avoid the image from going out
ofproportion)
*Ensure that the toolbox is
clicked on the cursor shaped
tool or else you would not be
able to see the two items
above.

5. Cropping the image (using magic wand): *recommended for plain
backgrounda. Click on the image, then click on the image wandb.
Click on the white background and press the delete buttonc. Press
Ctrl + D to remove the linesd. If there is still part of the
background left, you may use the crop tool to removethe remaining
areas (refer to the next slide for the steps)
Ensure that you have your LAYERS + HISTORYwindows opened as you
need these to workwith.
LAYERS: to work on a selected layer /duplicate a layer / remove
a layer / flatten theentire layout etc.
HISTORY: to undo the steps taken

5. Cropping the image (using cropping tool):a. Click on the
image that youll be croppingb. Using the crop tool, trace out the
outline of the imagec. Ensure that you create a closure by ending
the last point and the first pointd. Press Delete
e. Press Ctrl + D
Recommended to use asit is easier to control

6. To create contrast or change the colour of the image: IMAGE
> ADJUSTMENTS > HUE/SATURATION

6. To create contrast between background and foreground (through
blurring):a. Select the background imageb. FILTER > BLUR >

6. To add shapes:a. Click on the shape icon [ ] in the tool
box

6. To save file [pt 1]:a. FILE > SAVE ASb. Type in a name
under File Namec. Ensure that FORMAT is PHOTOSHOP (.psd, .pdd)[this
is to allow you to make changes to your layout later on]

6. To save file [pt 2]:a. Click on background, right click and
click on FLATTEN IMAGEb.FILE > SAVE ASc. Type in a name under
File Named. Ensure that FORMAT is JPEG (.jpg)[This is to be done
for printing. The .psd file is too big of a file to print and it
would take
some time for the printer to read.]
