Because the sweaters they wear in the video have a difficult neck I have chosen for a simple sweater. In this pattern you find a basic description of the trousers and sweaters. First Knitted, secondly crocheted. Furthermore there is the description of the hats and a simple shoe. More clothing outfits in other patterns with also the more difficult sweater.

Pat & Mat Basic clothes Crochet & knit pattern

Introduction Pat & Mat are clumsy characters in a popular animated movie. In 2014 I made these characters as dress-up dolls. Each doll is crocheted and they have knitted or crocheted clothes. Both neighbors like to work and spent their free time outdoors. The pattern of the dolls is on a separate pattern. Pat is 7.1 inch (18 cm) en Mat 8.3 inch (21 cm) Needed

o Yarn: cotton yarn, for example Catania cotton or similar, some red, yellow, blue, black, white, brown and light blue for the clothes and shoes;

o Hook: 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 mm or suitable hook for the chosen yarn; o Knitting needles: 3 mm (Europe), 2.5 (US), 11 (UK) o Yarn needle, scissor

Used techniques Crochet: Magic ring (double), crochet in the round, (invisible) decreases and increases Knitting: Garter stitch, stocking stitch, single rib. Cast on and cast off, increasing and decreasing.

US terminology is used MR = Magic ring Sc = Single crochet Hdc = half double crochet Dc = double crochet Slst= Slipstitch Ch = Chain Inc= Increase across the round/row Dec= Decrease across the round/row (1) = number of stitches in row or round [1] = number of rounds K= knit P = purl Garter stitch = knit each row Stocking stitch = knit one row, purl next row Single rib = *knit one stitch, purl next stitch* repeat till end of row

Clothing Pat and Mat wear a sweater and a trouser.

Knitting Make first a swatch and measure your dolls. Gauge is 26 by 36 for 10 cm The sweater is the same for Mat and Pat. You can make the sweater for Mat a bit longer by knitting a few rows extra. The trouser is adjusted on Mat, for Pat you can skip some rows. Length trouser = 9/10 cm, Length leg Pat = 6 cm, Mat = 7.5 cm

Trousers Make two legs!

1. With needles 3 cast on 18 stitches, 2. Knit 3 rows in garter stitch, every row knit. (18), 3. Inc on each end of next row 1 stitch (20), 4. Knit 3 rows in stocking stitch, one row knit, one row

purl, 5. Inc on each end of next row 1 stitch (22), 6. Knit 3 rows in stocking stitch, 7. Inc on each end on next row 1 stitch (24), 8. Knit 3 rows in stocking stitch, 9. Inc on each end on next row 1 stitch (26), 10. Knit 3 rows in stocking stitch, 11. Inc on each end on next row 1 stitch (28), 12. Knit 3 rows in stocking stitch, 13. Cast off 2 stitches on next and following row (24), 14. Cast off 1 stitches on next and following row (22), 15. Knit 6 rows in stocking stitch, 16. Knit 4 rows in single rib, knit 1 purl 1 and so on, 17. Cast off.

The trouser is adjusted to Mat, for Pat you have to skip some rows, by example in 12 and 15. Compare your work with the legs of your doll, maybe you have to skip some more rows for reaching the desirable length. The board of the trouser-leg can be folded so the length can be adjusted if it turned out to be too long.

Sew the sides of the trouser legs together. Turn one leg part and lay it upon the other leg part with the right sides facing each other. Sew the front seam and back seam together. The trouser is finished.

Sweater Front and back, make two

1. Cast on 20 stitches. With needles 3.0 mm. 2. Knit 3 rows in garter stitch 3. Knit 18/20 rows in stocking stitch, 4. Knit 3 rows in garter stitch, 5. Cast off.

Sleeves make two

1. Cast on 20 stitches 2. Knit 3 rows in garter stitch 3. Knit 10/12 rows in stocking stitch. Cast off.

Sew the front and the back, with the cast off sides on top, to each other over 3 stitches. Sew the sleeves to the front and back parts, the middle against the shoulder seam. Sew the side seams together.
