    Ms. Bailey,

Good day to you. I was excited to find your job posting for the English teaching position at StandingRock Community School in the North Dakota Workforce Connection website (listed as Job Order

218305). I am a recent North Dakota State University graduate with honors and a B.S. in EnglishEducation with a Communications option. I believe my enclosed resume and letters of recommendation

reflect that I am an appropriate candidate for the position at your school.

The role of a teacher encompasses many requirements and a teacherwears many hats, but I believe myprior work, teaching, and academic experiences meet and exceed these expectations. Prior to attending

NDSU I worked as: a radio and nightclub disc jockey, computer technician, community educationteacher, actor, director of plays and musicals, and legal assistant/paralegal. All of these experiences have

contributed to my people and entertainment skills allowing me to comfortably teach in front of a largeclass, maintain students attention, or work one on one with students or parents. My experiences in offices

have honed my organizational and computer skills so that I am prepared for the creation, organization, filing, and maintenance of the vast amount of paperwork associated with teaching including student

information, grades, assignments, lesson plans, schedules, and communications with parents oradministration.

My prior work as an informal ESL/ELL teacher, academic training at NDSU, numerous practicumexperiences in the classroom, and work as a tutor at the universitys Center for Writers have given mefirsthand experience working with students in one-on-one and classroom settings. Because of these

experiences, I appreciate the diverse nature of students, respect their individual needs, and believe in astudent-centered classroom. Please feel free to view my complete pedagogical philosophy, examples of

my unit and lesson plans, and a class related website all found in my electronic portfolio athttp://michaelbashford.wordpress.com. The examples I provide reflect my understanding of differentiated

instruction by offering each student curricula, content, and assessments directed to their individuallearning styles, cognitive ability, needs, and offering individual expression of what they have learned.

I am hopeful that, after you have reviewed my enclosed resume, you will give me the opportunity to

interview with you for the position advertised. I look forward to that opportunity and can be reached byemail at [email protected] or by telephone at (701) 412-4771.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

    Sincerely,

    Michael Bashford
