+Introduction

Over the course of this term we have explored and observed

the portrayal of men in art and how these perceptions have

evolved over the years. One evident theme throughout men in

art is the representation of power. You can find that in older

times power is focused on royalty and chiefdom, and has

slowly evolved to business men and government.

+Benin culture

Benin culture features men in a

very powerful and strong light.

Men as warriors are common,

and rarely do you see a woman

depicted in their art unlike many

other African cultures.

+Conclusion

Overall, I have come to the conclusion that throughout art men

are still depicted as they were since the beginnings of art,

powerful. Strength is still a very common theme, but the visual

representation of this has evolved. Once shown as warriors,

royal, and with weapons, you can find a shifted representation

of suits, ties, and briefcases showing power. As our society

gains momentum and moves towards the future, I cant help but

wonder how men will soon be depicted as.
