Austin Convention Centers sustainable design features and practices include:
66% of all waste diverted from landfill
Composted 250,000 lbs. of organic waste in 2011
Reduced our carbon footprint by 93% since 2007
Facility powered by Wind Energy Reduced electric consumption by 20%
Installed LED lighting in all meeting rooms
Carpet made from recycled materials, generating zero emissions and installed without using
glue
Reduced indoor water usage by 32%
Replaced 75% of all toilets to low flow fixtures
Implemented the(OS1) cleaning program to enhance, standardize green cleaning practices

A leading destination in Green meetings and one of the countrys most technologically advanced
facilities, the convention center stretches over six city blocks and 881,400 gross square feet of space. It
offers 370,957 square feet of meeting space including 246,097 square feet of column-free exhibit space
divisible into five contiguous halls. Ballrooms of all sizes are included in meeting package options. The
43,300 square foot upper level Grand Ballroom offers space for over 3,000 to dine in style. The Center
boasts 54 meetings room and show offices, located on all four levels, with over 58,000 square feet.
LEED certification of the Pasadena Convention Center was based upon a number of green design and
construction features that positively impact the project itself and the broader community. Initiatives
include:
Automated, high efficiency lighting and equipment, including LED technology.
A new energy-efficient central plant ensures the larger facility doesnt increase demand on
Pasadenas electrical grid.
The facility has been designed to perform 32 percent better than Californias energy efficient
standards.
Water-conserving restroom fixtures are predicted to reduce water consumption 37 percent.
An aggressive recycling program manages show and operational waste.
Facility is one-half mile from Gold Line commuter rail station and within walking distance of
three bus stops, encouraging use of public transportation.
Incentives for employees using public transportation. 85 percent of the construction waste was recycled.
44 percent of the building materials were locally manufactured.

Grey Water TechnologySolutions
Not only is water a scarce resource globally- italso takes a huge amounts of energy to move itaround - all adding to your carbon footprint.Grey water is the solution.
Money goes down the plug-holeMost consumers are very wasteful when it comes towater usage. In Western economies, we take watersupply for granted and use huge quantities of potablewater - often for non-essential purposes and - worst -sometimes we just pour it straight away. An increasingnumber of us now have water meters fitted to our homes
- meaning that we are quite literally pouring money downthe drain.
So what can you do ? Clearly, we can all make efforts tocut down on our use of water by simple means (see LessWaste) - but also domestic water treatment equipment isnow available to help householders to recycle usedpotable water ( 'Grey Water') and also to harvest
rainwater. We like to think of this as Green Water.
Giving Grey Water the Green Rinse
With the right treatment, you can put Grey Water to good

use in applications such as laundry, toilet flushing, andalso for plant watering - for which the phosphorus andnitrogen nutrients provide a good food source. Grey
water provides many benefits. You can install a home UV filtration system from anumber of suppliers globally.
Rainwater Harvesting
This is a low cost option that simply involves the
collection of rainwater from surfaces on which rain falls.Generally, water will be collected from the roofs ofbuildings and stored in rainwater tanks. All you need is tocapture this rainwater and direct it from roof gutters toyour rainwater storage tank.
