Will Pound, Benji Kirkpatrick (Faustus, Bellowhead, The Transports) and Ross Grant (Inlay) together showcase stunning arrangements of traditional dance tunes and songs with all the joy of a summer’s festival to the thrill of a winter’s fireside rapper sword-dance. Monday 1 July 7.30pm Monday Night at the Movies Ropery Hall, Maltkiln Road £4 Two-Way Stretch (U) 1hr 18mins A 1960 British comedy film, about a group of prisoners who plan to break out of jail, commit a robbery, and then break back into jail again, thus giving them the perfect alibi – that they were behind bars when the robbery occurred. However, their plans are disrupted by the arrival of a strict new Chief Prison Officer. Plus a short Tuesday 2 July 2pm to 5pm Choosing discs for a Desert Island Wilderspin School, Queen Street £5 The annual Graham Saunders Lecture Tuesday 2 July 8pm Stuart Maconie: Jarrow, Road to the Deep South Ropery Hall, Maltkiln Road £15adv/£17otd In October 2016, writer and broadcaster Stuart Maconie walked 300 miles from Jarrow to London retracing the famous Jarrow Crusade. From choral evensong to curry house, from austerity to affluence, from Wearside to Westminster, join him on an entertaining, impassioned, enlightening journey through Britain then and now. Wednesday 3 July 7.30pm The Opera Dudes present: ‘O What A Beautiful Evening’ Trinity Church, Holydyke £10adv/£12otd From Bernstein to Lloyd Webber, Les Mis to Mario Lanza. The Opera Dudes treat us to great singing, wonderful music and daft humour focusing on music from the musicals and the movies. Thursday 4 July 2pm - 4pm Songs and Scones St. Mary’s Church Hall Free Entry Professional musicians from the Live Music Now charity perform for older people in the community for a social musical session followed by refreshments. Friday 5 July - Sunday 7 July Trinity Methodist Flower Festival Trinity Church, Holydyke. Free ‘ All things bright and musical ‘ The whole building will again be full of gloriously colourful and imaginative displays by local people. Friday 7pm onward. One kid is leaving home, the dog is getting older and doesn’t need much walking, and the youngest kid hits 13 and cancels the family subscription to The Beano!

Saturday 6 July 7.30pmThe Lydian ChoirSt Mary’s Church, Burgate£8/£5The 40 strong Lydian Choir, a four part (SATB) adult choir, began life in 1975 in Scunthorpe. Created by Charles Edmondson, who was the conductor for many years, singers are drawn predominantly from the Scunthorpe area. Conducted by Susan Hollingworth for the last 20 years the repertoire of the choir is varied and this is reflected in most of the concert programmes.

Together they make a snappy title for Jane Austen’s classic novel of scandals, scoundrels and severely sprained ankles. This funny, fast-paced and faithful new adaptation from the critically-acclaimed Pantaloons Theatre Company features live music, audience interaction, romance and heartbreak. Part of Barton Tourism Partnership’s season of Performance in the Park.
