• Preliminary design utilized 4 high capacity load cellsy g g p y– Bearing assembly needed to be modeled in 3D FE software to analyze

for load distribution and stresses within the bearing plates

– Bearing needed to be redesigned to reduce the stresses within the bottom plate

CONCLUSIONSCONCLUSIONS• Successful technology applications require the right

paradigms and integration of the proper tech tools forparadigms and integration of the proper tech tools for transforming current empirical decision making into a balanced mechanistic/heuristic one;

• We are and will remain in a research-demonstration mode for some time before we may standardize tech leveraging and the applications of technology toolsleveraging and the applications of technology tools

• Infrastructures are highly complex systems governed by various human systems, especially policy and politics. Tech leveraging has to be designed accordingly

• There will always be abundant uncertainty, therefore we need to leverage heuristics to complement mechanisticneed to leverage heuristics to complement mechanistic, data driven decisions.
