OUR HISTORY Bartlett High School, part of the Bartlett City Schools system, serves students in grades 10-12 of the incorporated city of Bartlett, Tennessee. Bartlett High, formerly Nicholas Blackwell High School, has existed on this site since 1917 and encompasses 21 acres. A complete demolition and rebuilding of the school was undertaken in 1977, with additional renovations in 2001 and 2002. In June, we broke ground on a $60,000,000 major renovation project. 710 freshmen attend the Bartlett Ninth Grade Academy, which was established in July 2014, as part of the newly formed Bartlett City Schools. The estimated population of Bartlett is 58,000 and Bartlett High School, home of the Panthers, combined with the Ninth Grade Academy, is currently the largest 9-12 high school in the State of Tennessee with a total grade 9-12 population of 2,813 students.

ACADEMICS A full range of college preparatory courses and technical/career courses, Advanced Placement, and special education courses are offered. Included are four levels of English, four years of foreign language, extensive offerings in math and science, a television and video production department, full social studies electives, computer laboratory experiences, and fine arts (art, theatre, choir, band and orchestra). GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS To qualify for graduation in the spring of 2019, a student must earn the following 22 academic credits (specific courses apply). Additionally, students graduating in 2018 and beyond must have a score on either the ACT or SAT.

GPA, CLASS RANK & ACADEMIC HONORS The school year consists of 180 days divided into 4 nine-weeks grading periods. The school day is divided into six 47-minute classes and one 94-minute class. As of the 2017-18 school year, the numerical grading system is as follows:

A = 90 – 100 § 3 points are added to Honors and Dual Enrollment courses and 5 points are added to Advanced Placement courses. § Rank is calculated by weighted GPA. The weighted GPA is calculated as follows: +1.0 for AP and +0.5 for Dual Enrollment and Honors courses. § Final senior rank is determined after the 7th semester.

B = 80 – 89

C = 70 – 79

D = 65 – 69

F = below 65

Students may graduate with Honors, meaning they have scored at or above the college readiness benchmarks on the ACT or SAT. Students may also graduate with Distinction, meaning a B average has been earned and at least one of the following additional honors has been received: participation in Governor’s School; participation in one of the state’s All-State musical programs; be selected as a National Merit Semi-Finalist or Finalist; attain a 31 composite score or higher on the ACT; attain a score of 3 or higher on two or more AP exams; earn 12 or more hours of post-secondary credit; earn a nationally recognized industry certification.
