SPRC performs many of the functions that a personnel office or Human Resources Department would perform in other organizations. District superintendents comprise most of the bishop’s cabinet and the cabinet assists the bishop in identifying and assigning pastoral leadership that meets the needs of each congregation in the annual conference. It is an oversimplification to say that SPRC is the church’s personnel department. Communications to and deliberations of SPRC are confidential. For more information contact: sprcchair@bartlesvillefirstchurch.com

MEET YOUR SPRCThe Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) is an administrative unit that brings together congregational and staff interests to focus on the mission of the church:“To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”

At First Church, this committee is presently chaired by Javier Pollock. There are three members of the committee that serve because of another office they hold in the church: Senior Pastor Kevin Tully, Lay Leader Charlie Bowerman, and Lay Member to Annual Conference Wayne Middleton. Other members are Amanda Haberstroh, Dixie Squires, David Sigmon, Fred Cook, Freda Bretz, Kay Shannon, and Keith Reneau.

Sometimes we are motivated by the bad things. It’s not unusual for us to put off making changes for as long as we can until we reach a certain point when things become no longer tolerable. For some people, it’s early in the decline. For others, a crisis seems to be required.

That’s what happened to me back in 1991. I was employed in a responsible position at an outstanding church; I had a beautiful, loving wife and 3 wonderful kids. But my life was out of control in terms of doing the things I knew I should be doing (and truly wanted to do!) I found myself asking time and again for my wife and kids’ understanding about how busy I was, and making excuses for why I was behind on so many of my promises to them. I seemed to be always rushed, often late, and not accomplishing what I wanted.

Fortunately, I had a good friend who sensed what was going on and who was

going through something of the same thing. He encouraged me to attend a time-management seminar with him. The day I did, my life was changed – and the light hasn’t gone out in all the years since.

Because learning the principles of time management have changed my life so dramatically, I have continued to learn about the subject, and teach these principles to others whenever I can. Beginning March 23, I will be sharing these principles in a class I’ll teach from noon to 1 each Wednesday. The course runs through April 27 (6 weeks). This is more than a typical time management class, because we will be talking about managing our lives according to Christian values. It’s not merely about doing things more efficiently – it’s about doing the right things. The classes will take place Wednesdays from 12–1 pm. Many employers will allow employees to attend such classes as part of their work-related continuing education – so be sure to ask!

LEARNING ALONG THE WAY: LIFE AND TIME MANAGEMENTDr. Kevin Tully

Being in this class is not “spending” time, it’s investing it! A one-hour investment may yield several hours savings each week, perhaps from now on. And even better, you’ll find more happiness, satisfaction, and purpose when you put into practice the principles taught.

Space is limited to 20 participants, so sign up soon. You can call the church or sign up in the atrium the next time you’re at the church building. I hope you’ll join me. This is your life we’re talking about!

See you Sunday,Kevin

VAN MINISTRY Our Van Ministry needs your help. The church buses our members who are unable to drive to worship and small group every Sunday. Two routes run to pick up members from 8:45-9:30 a.m. and drop off members from 12:20-1:15 p.m. every Sunday. Approximately 4-8 people are needed every Sunday to help with this ministry.

Two ways to serve: 1) Pick the morning or afternoon time and schedule for once a month or 2) pick the morning or afternoon time and schedule for an entire month. Contact Wayne Middleton at [email protected] if you have any questions or sign up online to serve.
