Hello Barron County!! My name is Meredith Arcand and I am the new Barron County 4-H Youth Development Educator. I began this journey on February 15th, and I have met so many great people in the community. I want to thank everyone for their well wishes and support in this new position.
I am very impressed with all of the 4-H youth and volunteer involvement in this county. 4-H is such an important part of the community and in Barron County you are all playing a huge role in making a difference. I am excited to see what great programs already exist here and what new opportunities I can offer.
I was an Activity Director at a youth center in Neenah, WI for eight years. Two years ago I relocated to Iron Mountain, MI and worked as the 4-H Program Coordinator in Dickinson County. Now, I am back near my hometown and happy to put down my roots as your 4-H Educator.
Please let me know if I can help with anything or if you have any questions! I am excited to start my journey with Barron County!! Keep up the great work!!

county and who to contact if interested. Please check out this list and contact me with any changes. Also, I think it would be beneficial if we listed what your
club focus is for projects or if you do a variety of things. Thanks!!!

Although it doesn’t seem possible that so much time has flown by, the Barron County 4-H Dog Project is proud to announce it’s upcoming celebration of 50 successful years of
existence in 2016. This program, started in 1966, is one of the longest running projects operating in Barron County. For those not familiar with the project, its sole focus is on local
youth and the development of life skills through their work with dogs. Countless former members can attest to the self-confidence, discipline and sense of worth gained from
participating in the project, along with life-long friendships made.
With our milestone year upon us, we are asking former members to share with us their most memorable 4-h Dog Project photos. Up to 4 photos can be submitted for use in a pres-entation at the celebratory banquet planned for August 10th, 2016. Submitted photos need to include the member’s name, dog’s name, and year photo(s) taken. Photos can be sent via e-mail to: [email protected] or if in print form, mailed to Arlene Poulter, 2503 14 3/4 Ave., Rice Lake, WI., 54868. Photos need to be received by June 1, 2016 and
print photos will be available for pick up at the banquet. (They can’t be returned by mail.) A CD including all photos will be available at the banquet for a $10.00 donation. All proceeds
will go to the 4-H Dog Project to help cover banquet costs.
It is said, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” It tells a story, brings back memories and lets us appreciate the past and look forward to the future. Help us celebrate our history and
build our future with your photo contribution.
Questions regarding photos, the banquet, or the program can be directed to: Arlene at 715-859-2275.
New members are always welcome!!!

When Barron County 4-H is called upon to help with fundraisers or other events, I would love to extend that opportunity to clubs that are willing and interested in helping. Please contact the office and let me know that your club is willing to be on a call list. For example, if the office is contacted to help with an event I would use this call list and contact the club next on the list. I would give them 24 hours to contact
their members to ensure availability. If they are not able to help then I would contact the club who is next on the list. This system would ensure that clubs who are willing to help are given the opportunity to help and also I am able to respond to the community in a timely fashion. Please contact Meredith Arcand to place your club on this list.
For Barron County 4-H Members in Grades 5-7
To be considered, you must:
1. Complete and submit the Member Evaluation (ME) Form 2. Complete and submit the Trip Preference Form 3. Submit two letters of recommendation: one from your 4-H Club Leader and one
from another person of your choosing. The letters should be from people who aren’t related to you; if your 4-H Club Leader is related to you, ask another adult leader in your club.
4. Participate in a 15-minute interview Your completed ME Form, Trip Preference Form, and two letters of recommendation must be submitted to the UW-Extension Office labeled 4-H Council Trips and Key Award by April 15th, 2016.
By taking part in this process, you will take stock of your 4-H experiences to date, practice valuable interviewing skills in a supportive environment, and have a chance to represent Barron County on a 4-H trip. If you have ques-tions on the interview process, ask your club leader, members in your club who have interviewed before
Forms and information are available on the Barron County 4-H website at: http://barron.uwex.edu/4-h-youth-development
What is Discover Wisconsin?
4-H members in grades 5-7 will design and plan a trip to “somewhere in Wisconsin” together, with guidance from adult leaders. Because of the nature of this trip, there will be several required meetings in advance of the trip to pre-pare the itinerary. The number of youth awarded this experience will be limited. Trip dates are TBA; expected cost
should be less than $100, depending upon the plans made by the group (use your 4-H funding to get up to $200 reimbursed).
