I would like to introduce everyone to our new school mascot… the Bull. A bull is a great mascot, he has strength, determination, pride, resilience, earns and shows respect. The Bull does lend itself to an unbelievaBULL number of puns. We do have one small problem, our bull needs a name! Keep your eyes open for this legenDairy opportunity to name our mascot!

Congratulations to all our award recipients for Education Week. It was a terrific assembly and great to see the students modelling what it means to be Safe, Respectful, Learners. A big thank you to Mrs Bell and her musicians for a great performance. A thank you also to Mr Johnson for his organisation and Matt, Amy and Zac for chairing the assembly. It was great to see the whole school as one group in the hall.

Our air-conditioning systems were audited this week as part of the Cool Schools Program. The data from this audit will go into determining the heating and cooling needs of the school going forward. The program focuses on the learning spaces in the school.

Currently 21 of our high school students have headed off for 9 days in Tasmania. After all the hard work fundraising and many sausages consumed, the students are off. We look forward to getting a full report on their adventures and hope that the teachers and students don’t get too cold.

Semi-final Friday Night RugbySemi-final night saw both boy’s teams in action. The 14’s tried valiantly but after a competitive first half were overrun in the second half by a fresher (and more numerous opposition). This was a valiant effort by a combined team from 4 schools that was down on numbers due to illness and other factors. Kane Ward, Tyler Emmins and Bruce Simpson tried hard in the forwards as did Jack Ward who had his best game of the season. Jack was constantly in the thick of the action and seemed to be in nearly every ruck. Riley Hunter worked hard as he filled in playing in unfamiliar positions in the backs. Special mention is made of the effort by captain Mackenzie Austin who came off his sick bed to score a determined try in the first half before having to leave the field as illness took its toll.

Points for the semi-final:

3points - Jack ‘Give me the ball’ Ward, 2 to Riley ‘Terrier’ Hunter and 1 each to Tyler ‘Rambo’ Emmins and captain Mackenzie ‘Nobody’ Austin.

Congratulations to Mackenzie Austin and Max Gudshus from the 14’s and to Nicola O’Dell and Taylah Wilkinson from the 16’s girls who have been selected to represent Central North in an upcoming sevens tournament. A great achievement guys. Well done!

Lane Simpson contributed in a solid 38-17 victory over McCarthy High in the 16’s. Good luck for the rest of the finals Lane.

Thank you to Lisa McDouall for driving the bus and to coach Mark Harris from the Barraba Rams.

Rugby Rewards Day12 students attended the Rugby Rewards Day enjoying a movie and meal to celebrate their hard work for the season. A great day for the players who tested out the ‘all you can eat’ policy at the restaurant and were all well behaved.

Thank you to Jack McCarthy and Mark Harris from the Barraba Rams for taking time off work to join with the players.

We will finish the season with a presentation evening in the next few weeks - details will be sent out shortly.
