The Barnsley Eye and sister magazine The Wakefield Eye were saddened last month to learn of the death of Wakefield hooker Terry Newton aged just 31. The news has shocked and saddened the whole of the Rugby League Community.

Newton was one of only five players to have appeared in each of the 15 seasons since the introduction of a summer Super League in 1996, although he only made two appearances this year for Wakefield Trinity, his fourth professional club, before receiving a two-year ban in February after testing positive for human growth hormone (HGH). In his autobiography – retitled Coming Clean, he spoke frankly of his shame at being exposed using the growth hormone, which he conceded was even harder to cope with following the death of his younger sister, Leanne, as a result of her heroin addiction.

He made his Leeds debut aged 17 in the first Super League season, and played in the Rhinos team who won the last Challenge Cup final at the old Wembley against London Broncos three years later. He joined Wigan at the end of that season and played his best rugby for his hometown club, scoring 62 tries in 186 appearances, and earning his second cup-winners’ medal against St Helens at Murrayfield in 2002. He made his Great Britain debut against New Zealand in 1998, shortly after turning 20, and played in the team that secured the Lions’ last victory against Australia, in Sydney in 2006.

Newton had spoken of his eagerness to work with the RFL in warning other players of the dangers of using drugs. He had started running a pub in Wigan, the Ben Jonson, with his father-in-law, the former Wigan and Warrington scrum-half Keith Holden, and had been there the day before he was found hanged at home. He leaves behind wife, Stacey, and two young daughters, Millie and Charley-Mia. We here at the magazine offer our sincere condolences to his his family.

Eye on Local NewsThe Jean Genie Fashion Show 2010

The Jean Genie lives on his back, the Jean Genie loves chimney stacks…. Ah yes who can forget the lyrics to Bowie’s sassy Jean Genie tune, and what better way to open this unforgettable fashion show!

Before attending this show I didn’t quite know what to expect. All I knew was that a wonderful lady called Raychel Perks was on a mission to turn £50 into a much larger sum for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, and to do this she decided to host a fashion show where the design entries were created from recycled denim. Hence the name Jean Genie!

Upon arrival, a beautiful hostess treated us to nibbles and some lovely pink fizz to get us in the mood for what lay ahead. It wasn’t long before the terrible twosome that are drag queens Lady Bacardi and Miss Fanny Dee (pictured above with the nights models) graced the smoky stage. Hats off to these ladies now, they had me in stitches all the way through the show with their naughty banter and cheeky song numbers. Before the cat walk began, the ladies of dance troupe Cabalesque teased the audience with a saucy tribute dance to Lady Marmalade. Cabalesque is a local troupe that captures the fun and frolics of both Cabaret dancing and Burlesque. Their saucy moves and glittery costumes certainly left a few pulses racing! A breath taking, vintage style tap dance was also performed by local beauties Laura Amy-White and Samm Robyns aka Foxy Follies.

Moo designs proved that Barnsley has plenty of fashion talent as they flaunted their sensational designs on the catwalk. I must admit, being a typical girl, I was drooling at the mouth thinking, ‘I want that one, no I want that one!’.

The highlight of the show was of course the Jean Genie competition, (above) where the denim design entries were auctioned off to the audience. The Debased team managed to get our grubby, fashion hungry mitts on a denim corset and long line skirt, as well as the actual Jean Genie harem outfit!

The night was a complete success and an amazing total of £3257.75 was raised! This money is to help support Bluebell Wood and keep it running as they receive no statutory government funding. They simply rely on such events and donations to continue their amazing work in Sheffield and the surrounding areas.

Darren Pollard so loves a challenge that he took part in the Great North Run last month for the fourth time.

Darren of Mapplewell, (left) is aiming to raise £1500 for Children’s Liver Disease Foundation, the charity he has supported ever since his five year old son, Elliot, was diagnosed with the liver condition, biliary atresia as a baby. Following a successful liver transplant when he was six months old, Elliot is now fit and well but his family never forgot the support they got from CLDF when he was very poorly. “CLDF was there for us at a really difficult time” says Darren. “Thankfully Elliot leads a very active life now but other families are not so lucky and I’ll always want to do what I can to help people in the same situation as we were” Although training is going well, Darren is doubtful he’ll beat last year’s personal best of one hour 34 minutes. “I was delighted with my time last year but my training runs haven’t come close to that” he says. “Still I’m running in fancy dress this time which will slow me down a bit. I’m going as Batman’s sidekick, Robin, so I’ll look ridiculous but I’ll give Elliot a good laugh and that’s what it’s all about!”

CLDF Chief Executive, Catherine Arkley, added: “We depend on the efforts of individuals and small groups for 75 percent of our funding and Darren has been a tremendous supporter of ours over the past few years. We’re delighted he’s taken up the Great North Run challenge once more and think a superhero costumer is highly appropriate!”

As Britain continues to combat the troubles in Afghanistan and Iraq and look to remember personnel from wars in our history, Hidden Hearing, one of the UK’s leading hearing healthcare providers, has launched an initiative to support The Royal British Legion.

People facing criminal charges in Barnsley now have a new legal team to turn to, with the appointment of Jack Danaher and Ann Ridge as the first employees of the new Barnsley office of Howells LLP.

Howells is a long-established South Yorkshire firm with an excellent record of providing expert legal advice to individuals, not organisations. In the last year, the firm has won a Yorkshire Lawyer of the Year Award and the Criminal Defence Lawyer of the Year in the prestigious national Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Awards.

Solicitor Jack Danaher is already a very familiar face to many people in Barnsley, having run his own firm Jack Danaher and Co. for 25 years. A former miner, Jack went to Leeds University at the age of 34 to do his law degree. He specialises in criminal law and, unusually for a solicitor, is qualified to represent people in both the Magistrates and Crown Courts. Jack joined Howells earlier this year to help put the firm on the map in Barnsley.

Legal Executive Ann Ridge (nee Mannering) is a native of Barnsley and started her legal career here as an office junior at D. B. Richards and Co. which she joined after leaving Kendray Oaks Comprehensive.

Over the years, she has built up her qualifications and experience with a variety of firms and joined Howells’ Crown Court team in 2002. It was a wicked night, enjoyed by all who were treated to awesome club visuals, stilt walkers and fire eaters. There were over 600 clubbers in on the night with 10 djs playing from 10 till 6 am. Krush is now going from strength to strength and is now going to be held @ the foundry once every 3 months,

The next event is their Halloween special - ”A nightmare on Wellington Street” on Sat 30th October & their 5th birthday party will follow in January!!!

Juniors Welcome at Hillies Golf Course, Wombwell

The Wombwell Hillies Golf Course annual open tournament was held last month and was won by club member Graham Baker at nine under par. The junior title went to 16-year-old Mitchell Wilshire of Barnsley at one under par.

The nine-hole course is managed by BPL which recently invested in an automated driving bay - the first of its kind in Barnsley. Course manager Simon Potter said the bay is proving a great success and he is now keen to attract more junior players.

Simon said: “We welcome junior members and the new driving bay, which costs just £1 for 20 balls, is helping both adults and young people to improve their game.” Junior membership is open to anyone aged 16 or under and juniors can play unlimited golf for just £100 a year by taking up a special package deal.

BPL manages and operates a diverse portfolio of facilities in Barnsley and Bassetlaw from small community recreation centres, golf courses, a civic hall to large regional facilities such as the Metrodome Leisure Complex.

Do you know when you’re a kid and you are BURSTING at the seams to tell someone something, but you know you can’t? Well, that’s me at the moment. Or should I say ‘us’ because there are five people in the same boat – the ‘Come Dine With Me’ boat. It was last year when we were picked out of all the entrants in Barnsley (over 600 I hear) to film the programme and we all wish we had a quid for every time someone has asked us ‘When are you on the TV ?’ It’s a big relief to be able to say that finally... ‘WE HAVE A DATE!’

You have to do some funny things as an author , but the one thing I said I would never do is a reality TV show. Especially not something like this show which has some of ITV’s biggest viewing figures of all time - and now goes out worldwide. Gulp, so no pressure then! I mean, I could totally wreck my career if I came across as a twerp/horror/nutter – was I totally mad? However, my pioneering spirit kept nagging at me. ‘Go on, you wimp. Have an adventure. Get yourself put for’ard!’ And as I’ve always been of the Que Sera Sera persuasion, I thought , ‘if I’m meant to be on, I’m meant to be on.’ And I was.

So many times we’ve been asked ‘did we know the people before? ‘ , ‘Is it just like you see on the TV?’ The answer is ‘more or less, yes’. No, we hadn’t a clue whose house we were going to on the first night, or the names/ages/sexes of who would be there or what we were going to be eating all week. We were totally in the dark and we had to learn about each other as the days went on, loyalties formed, frictions arose... just as you see it on the TV.

What I didn’t expect was the week to be as intensive as it was. We were all totally and utterly knac...tired out by the end of the most rock ‘n roll week that I have ever had - we made Keith Richards look like Anne of Green Gables! But BOY is it scary – sign up for one of those things at your peril. It’s hard to act in front of the camera for more than the first five minutes , because, surprisingly, you quickly forget they are there. And we have no control over editing or what Dave Lamb says on his voice over. We don’t get a preview and will see it at the same time as everyone else. I’ll be watching from behind a cushion, wondering if I should get intensive plastic surgery and a one way ticket to Acapulco rather than risk anyone I know ever seeing me again.

I would spoil things for you if I gave any details away ( plus ITV would have my guts for garters) so all I will say is that we had a ball – and it must show because ITV have told us it’s one of the funniest ones they have done. I hope we did the town proud – and to all the scoffers who have said ‘A Barnsley Come Dine with Me? How many ways can you cook soup and chips?’ well, I return that we definitely gave other towns a good run for their money. I reckon Marco Pierre White will be quaking in his boots if he watches it...maybe.

Would I do it again? Yes - in a breath and just goes to show, you should never shake your head to even the daftest opportunities if your intuition is telling you to nod to it. We were all bereft after the last glass of champers was sipped. For five days we were in a surreal, mad, wonderful, emotional parallel universe and it was unbearably sad when it ended – the sign, I think, of a very good time.

COME DINE WITH ME!

This morning while poking mascara in my eye with one hand and eating toast with the other, I chanced upon Rhianna’s ‘Rude Boy’ video on MTV.

At 7.15 in the morning, I was faced with Rihanna’s gyrating crotch, in teeny hot pants, provocatively waggling her backside in the general direction of said ‘rude boy’ with the catchy lyrics: ‘Come here rude boy boy, can you get it up, come here rude boy boy, is you big enough?’. The same day in the supermarket I overheard a group of young girls in school uniform singing the lyrics ‘I wanna take a ride on your disco stick’ from Lady Gaga’s ‘Love Game’. It

brought to mind the day I saw a 4 year old being pushed along Blackpool front wearing a T-Shirt wearing the slogan ‘If You Wanna Be My Lover’ (you can blame Geri Halliwell et al for that one) and I began to wonder – are we all becoming so numbed to the blatant sexualisation of practically everything, that its seems anything goes these days as long as its under the label of ‘female empowerment’?

How many times have we opened a magazine to see the latest has-been/wannabe/pregnant celeb stripping off her clothes (and dignity) because it ‘makes them feel empowered?’ In the 60’s a lady called Mary Whitehouse (also often featured in ‘Oink!’ magazine!) campaigned against the explosion of sexual content on our TV screens, warning that it would sexualise young women in an unhealthy way. Back then she was laughed at, she was seen as an uptight old biddy, getting her metaphorical knickers in a twist over nothing - but she was right.

We’re all used to ad agencies ramming sex down our throats to sell products but when they are resorting to sexing up particularly unsexy products like Yorkshire Tea and CHEESE(!) surely its going a bit too far. My nan buys tea-bags, I’m sure she doesn’t want to associate her morning brew with a couple on TV who are about to go at it on the settee. We’re becoming so blasé about sexual behaviour that we live in an age where nobody bats an eyelid at the couple hammering away on the tube train, but complain when they light up a post-coital fag.

In her book Living Dolls, Natasha Walter recorded in shocking detail her conversations with British teenage girls about sex. They did not object to pornography, glamour modelling or lapdancing - on the contrary many considered the sex industry a viable career option and strippers and porn stars were viewed as being ‘cool’. ‘To be told that we looked like “porn stars” was the ultimate compliment’ said one. There was a time when a bloke would’ve got a thick ear for saying such a thing.

Natasha and the girls shared a common cultural reference - Sex And The City. It’s been lauded as the ultimate feminist programme, with the message that girls could be just as promiscuous and predatory as men. The myth that casual sex ‘liberates’ women is still being peddled by the SATC movies - the only lines fifty-something menopausal Samantha has, revolve around her desire to snare any man she can get her hands on. I sincerely hope that any young women watching SATC can see the Samantha character for the caricature she is - I know of no women in real life like her and incidentally most men appear to be disgusted by her ever-sleazier conquests.

We urgently need to be teaching our young sistas that this is not the way to be. Female empowerment means behaving as though you are equal to, not less than men, in every way – legally, professionally, financially, intellec-tually and sexually. This requires independence and self-respect, neither of which will be gained from sleeping around or lapdancing strangers in a bar. I’m not advocating a life akin to Maria Von Trapp. But the belief that overtly sexual behaviour empowers women is a dangerous delusion - its time we went against the media’s idea of ‘empowerment’ and showed our younger generation what it REALLY means to be a strong female.

When was the last time you really relaxed? If we are really honest with ourselves relaxation is not easy to achieve in today’s merry-go-round of constant demands that we seem to have to cope with.

I was reading the other day that we are constantly being given new gadgets that are supposed to make our life easier, more streamlined and therefore we should have more time. But do we have more time? No we just seem to pack in more work and we end up more and more stressed. Phones with e-mail and internet facility are a good example of this. It is great to have one because you can access e-mail, reports etc when you are not at work. Great, you might think, time saved, sort the e-mail before going to work. Did you really want a working breakfast? And what about going on holiday? Constant access to the internet wherever you are in the world. It’s great for being in contact with friends and family, but you are supposed to be getting away from it all, and who can resist all those office e-mails? Can you be away from your desk for a week or even two and not feel that you have to check in?

Ok, you might think that I have painted a rather extreme picture, but that scenario does exist and we are all drawn into it in one way or another. Think of this. How much do you enjoy your work? It would be nice to think that we all enjoy work. Some consider it to be a necessary evil and can’t wait for the working day to finish but others become really enthusiastic about what they do. They enjoy it so much that they begin to live and breathe their work and for a time they float on the adrenalin rush that they get as they achieve great things. Sadly they don’t see that other areas of life that keep us in balance are slipping away until eventually work is the only thing in their life. What about those who take work home each evening so they can keep up and stay on top of the job? Once in a while this is ok but they can easily find themselves extending their day well into the evening and sometimes making early starts too, just to keep up. All they are really doing is running themselves further and further down, becoming more and more stressed and eventually depressed. Work has taken over and they see no way out.

So here is the challenge. We all need time to rest, recreate, switch off from the daily grind. If you are stuck in a rut of work, work and more work as above you need to take a risk. That risk is to make an effort to end the working day at a reasonable time and give yourself time to rest. Surprisingly it will allow

you to return to unfinished work refreshed and renewed. It will also help you to maintain a more positive attitude and able to complete your work more efficiently.

So how can you really achieve relaxation? Here are some tips.

1 Have an end of workday routine. Tidy your workspace. Think of all the things you have achieved during the day. Even if you feel as though you have not completed anything because of the demands of others you will find that each task has its small achievements. You might also consider your relationships with other colleagues and find something positive to say about your day. If it has not been a good day don’t dwell on it tomorrow is a new day, a new beginning.

2 Try some meditation. Find a quiet space. You might want to play some quiet music or light a scented candle. Sometimes you might find a place outdoors near running water. Your space should be somewhere you won’t be interrupted. Concentrate on your breathing and allow yourself to become calm.

3 Your home is your sanctuary so make it a good place to be. Keep it tidy and ordered. Decorate using calming, soothing colours and choose natural textures, such as cotton, linen, natural wood and stone. Use relaxing aromatherapy oils to scent the air, play quiet music.

4 Get some exercise. It should not be competitive, as this will build stress into the situation when you feel you have to win. Build exercise into your day, walking, cycling gardening, swimming or dancing. Exercise such as Yoga and Tai chi combine gentle movement with meditation and breathing techniques as well as exercising the muscles and so are an excellent way to promote physical and emotional relaxation.

5 Have a relaxing bedtime routine. Avoid caffeine in drinks such as coffee, tea and cola. Try a herbal drink instead like chamomile tea or valerian. Lavender can also help relaxation.

It is time to step off the work, sleep, work cycle. Switch off the work phone. Leave all th e-mails till tomorrow. Make time for you, for you and your partner, for you and family and friends. Do things together, enjoy each other’s company, laugh. And then go back to work refreshed, renewed and ready to face a new working day.

18 The Guide to a Healthy Bowel

This article aims to give you a better understanding about the Bowel and how it works and what you can do to reduce the risk of developing bowel cancer.

The digestive system is approximately 9 metres long and contains more than 400 different types of bacteria, most of which are located in the

large intestine. The mouth, oesophagus, stomach, small intestine and large intestine (bowel) are all part of the digestive system. The digestive system extracts the nutrients, vitamins and minerals from what you eat and drink and gets rid of the waste.

How to keep the digestive system healthy

The digestive system can be upset easily. An unhealthy diet, stress, antibiotics and travel are some of the causes.

An upset digestive system can make you feel bloated and sluggish. Many people suffer from digestive related problems at one time or another. One third of the population regularly suffer from digestive illnesses such as irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, diarrhoea, stomach-ache, nausea and sickness and 60% of British adults have experienced digestive problems when in stressful situations.

Diet - Useful Tips:

We have compiled some useful diet tips below which could help ease and avoid bowel related problems and help you to maintain a healthy digestive system.

Choose a wholegrain breakfast cereal or porridge in the morning; you could even add a handful of nuts and seeds or some fruit

Eat small regular meals.

Swap white bread for wholegrain or granary bread.

Choose foods that are rich in fibre such as fruit, vegetables and starchy carbohydrates.

A moderate amount of lean meat, fish, eggs and protein alternatives are also recommended, along with milk and dairy foods.

Eating fruit, vegetables and wholegrain cereals is associated with reduced risk of certain cancers including those of the digestive system.

Drinking enough fluids is just as important as eating the right kinds of food. The minimum recommended daily fluid intake for an adult is between 2 – 3 pints (approx 1.2 litres). Increase your fluid intake in hot weather or when exercising. Your urine should be a pale straw colour if dark it is likely you are not drinking enough water.

Limit the amount of alcohol you consume. Women should drink no more than 2 - 3 units a day, men 3 - 4 units.

Limit the amount of sugary and fatty foods you eat. If you feel hungry and need a snack, try to keep hunger at bay with nuts or a piece of fruit.

Chew well. Break down each mouthful into small pieces. This helps release the enzymes that aid digestion so that food is processed thoroughly and all the goodness extracted

Don’t miss meals. A lack of food in the system can cause excessive gas - and lead to a gurgling, wind filled stomach

Try and avoid eating large or fatty meals before going to sleep.

Bowel and digestive health tips:

Alcohol Drinking too much alcohol is toxic to every part of the body, including the brain, the pancreas, the muscles and our digestive system. Alcohol is at its most concentrated in the stomach and this is especially the case when no food is present. As a result, when consumed in large amounts, alcohol can cause irritation and inflammation of the stomach lining. This in turn may result in nausea and vomiting.

Stress Stress is something that is quite difficult to avoid in today’s society. Problems occur when our lives cause a lot of stress, and one of the first parts of the body to react to stress is our digestive system.

Smoking Smoking is bad for every aspect of your health which includes your digestive health. Smoking is responsible for many changes in the digestive system. It contributes to common disorders such as heartburn and peptic ulcers.

Dehydration The human body needs water to maintain enough blood and other fluids to function properly, therefore it is essential that you keep yourself hydrated. As soon as the body begins to lose a substantial amount of water more quickly than it is replaced, the body starts to get dehydrated. A common effect of dehydration on your digestive system is constipation.

Getting Older As we get older, our bowels tend to become quite sluggish. This may be due to many factors including changes in our diet and less exercise. There is some evidence to suggest the lower bowel itself changes in old age. In some cases this can lead to bowel emptying difficulties and leakage. It is important to seek help from your GP or continence advisor if this occurs.

Bowel Cancer is the third most common cancer in the UK after breast and lung cancer and is largely preventable. It is reported that around two thirds of cases could be prevented by lifestyle changes.

Signs and Symptoms of Bowel Cancer:

In 2007 there were 68 deaths from colorectal cancer in Barnsley, which accounted to approximately 10% of all cancer deaths. It is important that we recognise the signs and symptoms of bowel cancer (which last over a period of 4-6 weeks) and these are as follows:

• Bleeding from the bottom

• A change in bowel habit to more frequent, looser motions

• Lump in the tummy area

• Pain in the tummy

If any of the above apply to you it is advisable to contact your GP to discuss further.

The NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme offers screening every 2 years to all men and women aged 60 – 69. People in this age group will automatically be sent an invitation, then their screening kit (pictured below) so they can do the test at home.

Your GP will provide your contact details, so it is important that he or she has your correct name and address. After your first screening test, you will be sent another invitation and screening kit every 2 years until you reach 69. If you are 70 or over, you can ask for a screening kit. A local resident has scooped a national award for her services to Barnsley slimmers.

Jackie Hetherington from Chapeltown, received the Jean Nidetch award from Weight Watchers UK senior vice president, Andrew Knight at a Weight Watchers conference on the weekend.

The award, named after the woman who founded Weight Watchers in New York over 40 years ago, is only given out once every two years to the four most outstanding Weight Watchers Leaders in the UK.

Jackie, who has been a Leader for over nine years and runs seven Weight Watchers meetings in Barnsley and Sheffield, also received a Diamond Leader award at the event for services to her members.

Jackie lost almost five stone with Weight Watchers as a member herself and is celebrating her ninth year of maintaining her goal weight.

Diane Gleghorn, Regional Manager, said: “At the heart of Weight Watchers success are wonderful Leaders like Jackie. Jackie inspires, involves and informs all her members - I challenge anyone to go to Jackie’s meetings and not come away inspired! The Weight Watchers Jean Nidetch Award could not have gone to a more deserving person.”

Four years after she beat breast cancer, Kylie Minogue is raising awareness of the disease in a new campaign.

The 41-year-old strips off and wears nothing but a smile and silk sheet with the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer logo across in a striking image taken by acclaimed photographer Mario Testino.

Joining Kylie (below left) in the revealing new campaign, is pregnant supermodel Claudia Schiffer and actress Sienna Miller. Minogue’s involvement in the campaign comes nearly five years after she was diagnosed with the disease in May 2005. After a year of treatment, which involved a partial mastectomy to remove a malignant tumour, followed by eight months of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, the pop star was given the all clear in 2006 and was able to resume her Showgirl tour in November 2006.

She said: ‘It means so much to me to be part of this year’s campaign for Fashion Targets Breast Cancer. ‘I wholeheartedly support their efforts to raise funds for the vital work undertaken by Breakthrough Breast Cancer.’

There are a number of reasons why people decide to move, these include; having a family, wanting to be closer to work, preferring a rural setting and moving into a certain school catchment area. However, many people just want a bigger home. There are generally 2 options; you move or extend, but which one is best? There isn’t really a right or wrong answer as each circumstance is totally different. By extending you stay in a familiar area, there is no need to pay the costs associated with moving (solicitors, estate agents, removals etc) and you can plan exactly how you want an extension to look.

Before making the decision to extend get quotes for the costs of extension and weigh them up against the cost of larger house. Moreover, remember every house will always have a natural ceiling in terms potential full value, regardless of the number of extensions. Unless you love the house you live in, I would never recommend spending more on an extension than the potential equity added value after the full works have been carried out.

Another thing to remember is that certain types of extensions don’t add significant value. Conservatories, porches, vestibules and loft conversions (without bedroom building regulations) are great additions to any home, but the overall cost often doesn’t always add the same value. However, these types of alterations do certainly improve saleability.

In my experience, and broadly speaking, a detached property will normally benefit more, in terms of added value, by extension. However, this is broadly speaking – if you are seriously looking at moving or extending, speak to an estate agent. We are generally happy to pass on any advice as to whether to extend or move - we often have plans brought into our office from people want to know what to do for the best. In the majority of cases the advice is normally free.

Robert Plant – Band of Joy Some may say there is something noble about Robert Plant’s refusal to sign up for a Led Zeppelin reunion. In a recent interview, the legendary singer spoke with enthusiasm about their one-off O2 Arena gig in December ’07, and the apparent £200 million he turned down for a full reunion tour, but he also revealed how his thoughts led him to question who exactly would be running that show. It seems apt that his new project should be named Band of Joy, as Plant seems to have stayed true to his heart and sounds to be making the music he wants to..for now. Meeting Dai Bradley has inspired me even more to so get this right and produce a piece of theatre that recaptures all the elements of the original film as well as allowing us some artistic licence to bring it to stage. Dai went on to offer some invaluable words of advice to Joe and Lewis on how to portray Billy. I told Dai that I would be taking on the role of Jud in the production and he said “I reckon you could play the part brilliantly - you certainly have the right build, so really go for it!”.
