I can’t believe we have hit half way through the year already. It seems like yesterday students returned to school for a new school year! Students have worked exceptionally hard over the past semester to improve in all areas and reports will provide parents and carers with an opportunity to understand the academic and social achievements improvement for their children. Reports also provide an opportunity for reflection and to determine areas for improvement. Part of the assessing and reporting process is not only the paper report but also the chance to converse with your child’s teacher to ask questions and student learning. Please ensure you contact the office to arrange collection. Thank you to the staff at Bargo Public School for their wonderful efforts during the assessment and reporting period. I was able to read and sign every child’s report and obtained a clear indication that staff had worked extremely hard to ensure that the reports provide information relative to each student in their class. Further information about dates and booking procedures will be included in your child/ren’s report envelope. In response to the positive feedback we received last year, we will be using the online booking system once again this year. If you require assistance in regards to booking, please speak to your child’s teacher. YEAR 6 PYJAMA MUFTI FUNDRAISER Today we held our Year 6 fundraising pyjama mufti day. Wasn’t it great to have your kids get out of bed and leave their pyjamas on - no fuss and no complaining about getting ready for school? Thank you to everyone for supporting our Year 6 students. SPECIAL THANK YOU I would like to take the opportunity to thank Mrs D’Onofrio, Mrs Menne, Ms Ritchie, Mrs Warder and Mr Hill who attended the Stage 3 Canberra camp last week. To give up your own families and time to ensure our students are provided with this amazing experience is very much appreciated. From the write up in this newsletter, it looks like it was a rewarding and fun filled experience for all.

SPECIAL RECOGNITIONBlake Symons, Eddie Hockey and Jay Davies have been recently been competing

in the NSW State Cup Soccer Tournament. This tournament attracts over 500 entries each season and is an opportunity for club teams from all areas of Football NSW to compete against teams from outside their own Association. It is self nominated and goes for approximately 3 months, in a knockout style. The team, in which the boys play for, were unfortunately defeated yesterday, however they managed to finish 3rd in the state overall. This is an amazing result, considering no team in the Macarthur district has gone as far in the tournament. Congratulations boys on this outstanding result!

Please remember, if your child/ren are involved in competitions outside of school, please let the school know of their achievements. It’s always good to acknowledge them not just for their achievements at school, but also for their dedication and achievements outside of school. They work hard and deserve to be recognised.

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE

Little Elves before and after school care will also be conducting school vacation care during the holidays. Please see their advertisement in this edition of the newsletter if you wish to enrol your child/children.

I wish everyone a safe and relaxing holiday and look forward to seeing everyone upon their return for Term 3.

Regards,Mrs Jane SmartRelieving Principal

THANK YOU ALL FOR SUPPORTING THE P&C COIN CHALLENGE.THE FIRST PRIZE WINNER WAS 3/4C RECEIVING A HOT LUNCH.

SECOND PLACE WAS 1S RECEIVING AND ICE BLOCK.

P&C WOULD ALSO LIKE TO THANK THE PARENTS WHO HELPED OUT IN THE CANTEEN AT THE ‘B’ GALA DAY

This semester, Stage 1 has been learning about ‘Living Things’. In 1M, we have been super busy investigating how plants grow and exploring the life cycle of a plant. We read a wonderful book called ‘The Tiny Seed’ by Eric Carle. We looked at how Eric Carle creates his artworks and we recreated ‘The Tiny Seed’. We had great fun mixing paints and trying

new techniques. Our room now looks like a beautiful garden!

Stage 3 marvelled at the view of the moon at Questacon. It was surreal to realise that man travelled so far. The moon display hung over us all and we were all amazed. R O B O T S – B O R N O R B U I L T ?

Did you know you could move things with your mind? Stage 3 explored the similarities and differences between humans and machines. S O M U C H T O E X P L O R E A N D M O R E .

Some of us took the plunge and were weightless dropping on the slide (We were so fast Mrs M’s photos were all blurry). We explored the marvels of natures in the Earth Room – every 15 mins it gets extra loud as lightning strikes in the cage. We built and we discovered. WA R M EMOR I AL :

Standout moments for students included seeing one of the boats that WW1 soldiers rowed up to the shores of Gallipoli. A diaorama of lone pine trenches caught few eyes.

Many of the students were very interested in the replica of the submarine that attacked Sydney.

A number of students stopped to get poppies and were very interested about the different poppy colours. There is so much to see here and the time flew very quickly.

N A T I O NAL M US E U M O F A U S TR A L I A :

Stage 3 enjoyed K Space – at this very hands on museum. Lots of interactive displays and a wonderful collection of indigenous artifacts. There are also places you can explore colonial life…..Did you know this is free to go in?

At the PEO we role played passing a bill in parliament. It was another great opportunity to explore how the cogs of democracy turn.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government contributed funding of $20 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

DA Y 2 : C OOM A – SN OW D A Y

It was a very mild 2 degrees at Perisher when we visited. No wind …an absolutely delightful day…

For those who had never seen snow it was wonderful to hear the excitement as we snaked up the mountains. At the first sight of snow the bus erupted with …SNOW!!

Whilst in the snow, we made snow angels, snow men and had snowball fights. Some students had been holding out to build their own Snow Arena for their Beyblades.

Mrs Menne even grabbed some action shots … and the snowball hit her in the smacker. Some students tried snow swimming – I mean it is a variation of water isn’t it?

D A Y 3 : P A R L I A MEN T HO U S E

We toured the houses of parliament with our guides and sat in the public galleries. We also saw the portraits of all of the past prime minsters and the most recent portrait of the retiring Governer General, Sir Peter Cosgrove. Another interesting thing we saw was the apology speech. M U S EU M O F A U S T R A L I A N D EMO CR A C Y ( O L D P A R L I A MEN T HO U S E)

We all had to don white gloves whilst we were here, because the old lady (old parliament house) can be easily damaged by the oil on our fingertips. We went on a hunt in the interactive gallery and explored the history of democracy. Then we did a role play in the old house of representatives. The old and new speakers were dressed up and talked about the chair of the speaker.

T H E MI N T

We were guided around the mint and saw the robots involved in making our money. We also explored the displays of coins over time. We got a history lesson about currency. FREE SAMPLES?? No ..sorry ……

Jump Rope for Heart Jump Off Day!Jump Rope for Heart is a fantastic physical activity and fundraising program that has been run by the Heart Foundation for over 35 years.

We held our school Jump Off Day yesterday marking the end of the program and was a chance for everyone to come together to skip and show off their newly learned skills.

Thank you to all our students who registered online and raised much needed funds for this charity. All classes participated in our end of program ‘Jump Off Sessions’ and had a great time with their buddy classes. Mrs O’Reilly needs to finalise donations (ONLINE only please) by this Friday (week 10) so that our students can receive their thank you prizes.

Follow the link below to complete your fundraising. www.jumprope.org.au/parents

Thank you for supporting the Jump Rope for Heart program!
