Coverage>1000 clients followed up (Sept 06)/~2000 reported cases ~580 Clients on HAART (Sept 06)/ ~650 reported AIDS cases80% undetectable viral load

OutcomesNumber of admissions decreased by 42% from 316 overall admissions to 183.Total hospital days fell by 59.4% Rise in outpatient visits by 128%, from 4727 visits per year to 10,782.Overall reduction in deaths of clinic registered patients by approximately 56%

To sustain the activities of the CHART Training Centre

To support the CHART vision and mission to expand the number of healthcare professionals educated and trained to deliver quality care, treatment and support services to clients

To develop an organizational infrastructure with the NTC network to assure effectiveness and long term sustainability of CHART

TB/HIV Training programme for health personnel including nurses, physicians & environmental health officers, May 2006

Clinical management of HIV training programmes for Pharmacists & Nurses in June & September 2006 respectively

Clinical Mentorship/Preceptorship programme for Nurses, Physicians & Pharmacists ( members of the Clinical Care Team) for Antigua, November 2006

Caribbean Partnership for Nurses in HIV & AIDS Care, Jan. 2006- Present

IMPACT OF TRAININGS: Immediate Impact

Anecdotal records: Oral & summary evaluations indicate that approximately 95% of participants benefit by gaining new knowledge

Follow up interviews with participants indicate application of knowledge & skills in about 75% of participants

Follow up interviews with trainers regarding observation of participants after trainings where possible, indicate marked improvement of confidence in applying knowledge acquired

Curricula content and delivery methods utilized interactive case based methods which allow participants to apply knowledge to real situations

Pre and post tests give immediate feedback of participants’ prior knowledge and acquired knowledge, showing improvement of 25% (from 70 % to 95%)

The Way ForwardCHART Barbados will seek to fulfill the vision and mission of the Regional Network within the context of country priorities identified

Provide training opportunities for health care professionals to enable access to standardized, current and relevant information to assist in building skills and knowledge base in the area of HIV and AIDS treatment, care and support.

Establishment of a dedicated CHART Barbados Office, Training room & Resource Centre.
