2010: Our BIG shipment

• Shipped 300 computers from DeVry

• Students and teachers at DeVry develop install disc for Ubuntu OS and Edubuntu educational suite.

• Planned to teach 2 basic courses.

• But 35 of 52 teachers had mastered basics and needed advanced experience.

• Developed advanced program on-the-fly: Teaching with projects, Rachel, and cross cultural teams.

Advanced course

• Finding and evaluating online resources

• How to guide students to online resources

• Integrate computer and online resources into curriculum

• “Rachel” for schools without internet

Basic course: 21st century teaching and computer skills

Teachers learn about computers, MS Word, excel, & powerPoint via

Intel TEACH program

We also taught critical thinking, and student-centered teaching techniques

Helping teachers create their PowerPoint about a favorite student

A weekend break on Mt. Kenya

19,000 ft. – we hiked to 11,000.
