Brief Profile Of Workshop Facilitators

Dr Reynold Gracio Washington

is working as Director, KHPT since the past 14 years,with additional responsibilities of Adjunct Professor at StJohn’s Research Institute and Associate Professor atCommunity Health sciences, University of Manitoba. Hecompleted his MD, DNB in 1994.

His special areas of interest include ChronicCommunicable Diseases – TB/HIV, MNCH and HealthSystems development. In 2013-14, he was awarded theKACH Conference BM Patil Oration award and aMedallion and citation from the Governor General ofCanada for translating program into policy at a globallevel. Additionally, under his leadership, KHPT receivedthe WHO-ICICI award for scaling up primary health careinterventions for people living with HIV.

DR. Prakash K HHe is working as Director - TB Projects at KHPT since thepast 1 year .He has additional responsibilities likecoordinating with State RNTCP, CTD, USAID, GFATM & Dept.of H&FW . He has undergone Project Management, M&E &Health care service Management training /RepresentedKHPT at WHO HQ, Geneva as Advisor for a workshop on“Three I initiative for HIV-TB co-infection prevention”.

His special areas of interest include - Infectious Diseaseprevention, Surveillance, C&S. Urban Health, NCDs, ICPS, Inj.Safety & Quality of Care. He has been Awarded/ recognizedfor his work in Routine Immunization Strengthening, PolioEradication, STI- HIV prevention_ Surveillance_Care &support, Infection control/Sepsis Management & AntibioticStewardship.

Dr Krishnamurthy Jis currently working as Senior Technical Advisor, Universityof Manitoba/ Karnataka Health Promotion Trust for projectsin India and Africa. He holds adjunct faculty position in thedepartment of Community Health Sciences, University ofManitoba, Canada. By training, Krishnamurthy is a physicianwith postgraduate specialization in Community Health, hasmore than 15 years of experience in the areas of RMNCHA,Communicable and Non-communicable disease.

His research interest revolves around health systems,service quality improvement & quality of life and has severalinternational presentations and publications to his credit.He received M.B.B.S degree from Mysore University and MDin Community Medicine from Bangalore Medical College. Hehas received specialized training in research methods atW.H.O, Geneva and has held a post-doctoral researchfellowship from University of Manitoba

Sumanth Mallikarjuna MajgiHe is working a Assistant Professor since the past 9 years .Hehas additional responsibilities like training interns on NCD,member of research cell, member of MEU in the institution.He has undergone research methodology, Routineimmunization. His special areas of interest include noncommunicable diseases, mental health and Medicaleducation and He has been awarded British council grantfor work in mental health

Dr Swaroopis a medical doctor and has a postgraduate degree inCommunity Health. He is currently working as a DeputyDirector – Quality Improvement and Quality of life at KHPT.He has many years of experience in a wide range of projectscovering non-communicable diseases, reproductive,maternal, neonatal, child and adolescent health.He has significantly contributed to the innovative onsitementoring intervention to improve maternal, newborn andchild health outcomes across 385 Primary Health Centresand First Referral Units in the eight High Priority Districts ofnorthern Karnataka. Currently he has taken a lead inconceptualizing and implementing a pilot project on selectnon-communicable diseases in Mysuru.The aim of this project is to identify the gaps in diagnosis,care and treatment of diabetes and hypertension anddevelop a model to promote early screening, earlyenrolment to care and support mechanism, regular follow-up and adherence to medications.

Agneta NarendraIs currently working as Manager - Nutrition and PublicHealth, Karnataka Health Promotion Trust .She is aexperienced nutrition and public health specialist with ademonstrated history of working in the social developmentsector and nutrition research with 7 years of experience.Masters in food science and nutrition and pursuing a secondmasters in global health and infectious diseases atUniversity of Edinburgh, Scotland. Recently sought acertificate of advanced studies in public governance andadministration from ETH, Zurich (2018).Skilled in nutrition education, nutrition research,counselling, content writing, food formulation and publichealth. Involved in advanced research in the field ofmaternal and child nutrition for 3 plus years. Also a certifieddiabetes educator by the Academy of Nutrition andDietetics.

Mr Gururaj Patil

He is a Program specialist with about 15 years of experience in KHPTand an excellent capacity to start-up & sustain new projects; quicklyestablish systems for planning, implementation, monitoring &evaluation; and mentor teams. Currently manages staple foodfortification project covering 8 big states of India. He also supportsmany ICT interventions of KHPT and has experience in setting upinnovative solutions such as IVRS, telephone based treatment supportcareline, mobile based patient support systems etc.He worked as deputy project director of Tuberculosis Health Actionand Learning Initiation (THALI) project, managing the responsibility ofstarting the project and establishing systems. As Team Leader of theSHOPS TB project and Project Manager of the MBPH TB project inKarnataka, he worked closely with state TB program. He was part of inJoint Evaluation Visits of the State TB team and provides inputs intothe State level annual TB program planning.He coordinated and monitored training of private practitioners for STI,

HIV and TB using networks of private and Government medicalcolleges, and has developed and managed innovative IT initiativesincluding bio-matrix tracking in clinical services for key populations,logistic management information systems for ART drugs, and TB care-line. Professionally, Gururaj has completed a 3-year course at NIIT,Masters in Business Administration and holds a Masters degree inEconomics
