A WORD FROM PASTOR NATE CHESTER BAPTIST CHURCH JUNE 2021 Heading into June always feels like a seam in the rhythm of life. My parents were teachers. This meant our family rhythm always changed as school ended for two months until school began. This was equally disrupted by long days. Not boring days, but the longer days of sunshine. I remember as a young elementary child laying in bed at bedtime having trouble sleeping because it was still light out. June still has that same feeling for me now as the school year ends for my children and I try to wrestle them to bed while they debate whether it is actually bedtime. Disruption in rhythm is a good thing. It can be unsettling at first and require adjustment, however it can be quite refreshing. God is ready to use what disrupts our patterned behaviors and rhythms for us to experience and grow in our relationship with Him. Although, I think He leaves it up to us to realize He is there, present for us. Romans 8:28 begins by saying, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him” If we love God and desire his attention and a relationship with him, He will work all those seams, disruptions, and rhythm changes for our good. And if we miss out on the good He has, it may mean we are more focused on the change than on a loving Heavenly Father who wants to care for us in love.

Heading into June always feels like a seam in the rhythm of life. My parents were teachers. Thismeant our family rhythm always changed as school ended for two months until school began.

This was equally disrupted by long days. Not boring days, but the longer days of sunshine. Iremember as a young elementary child laying in bed at bedtime having trouble sleeping

because it was still light out. June still has that same feeling for me now as the school year endsfor my children and I try to wrestle them to bed while they debate whether it is actually

bedtime.

Disruption in rhythm is a good thing. It can be unsettling at first and require adjustment, however it can be quite refreshing. God is ready to use what disrupts our patterned behaviorsand rhythms for us to experience and grow in our relationship with Him. Although, I think Heleaves it up to us to realize He is there, present for us. Romans 8:28 begins by saying, “And we

know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him…” If we love God anddesire his attention and a relationship with him, He will work all those seams, disruptions, andrhythm changes for our good. And if we miss out on the good He has, it may mean we are more

focused on the change than on a loving Heavenly Father who wants to care for us in love.

John 3:16 states, "God So Loved the World that He gave His one and only son that the world might be saved throughHim." I will come back to this....

Spring this year has brought with it the hopes that Covidrestrictions will be lifted. As we enter summer that looks likemore of a reality as some sense of normalcy (whatever thatis) appears to be on the rise. More businesses are opening topeople without masks. One can now go to the bank withoutan appointment, however there are still people very much infear of a virus. There have been conspiracy theories on howthe virus originated; either cooked up in a lab or somehowformed naturally. The point is that there are many differingviewpoints on how to deal with the manner in which wecontinue life in a post Covid world. But one thing remains thesame. "God So Loved the World."

He loves all of the world. He loves every Republican, everyDemocrat, every liberal and every conservative. He loves allraces of people equally. He loves everyone regardless ofpersonal preference. He also requires that we do the same.

It is time for all of us as followers of Jesus to look beyond ourown preferences and learn to develop compassion andempathy for people so that we may be good examples ofGod's love for the world. My prayer for us is that God willgive us the wisdom and the ability to love others well.

Covid may have changed the world but it didn't change God.It did not change John 3:16, and when it comes to lovingothers it should not change us. He still loves all of the world, and so should we.

The results from the first eight months of the 2020 –2021 church year remains positive with Contributionsto the Operating Funds $64,706 above expenses. Theyearly insurance bill of $15,366 paid in May was theprimary reason the contributions over expensesdecreased by $16,083 at the end of May. To the leftare the six-month results.

The positive results continue to be from reducedexpenses from church activities curtailed because ofthe Virus, but mostly from good contributions. Theseresults have enabled the church to make upgrades intechnology (internet and phone systems), lighting inthe choir loft, and virtual services (live streaming andvideo production). Please continue to be in prayer forthe Finance Committee as it works the preparation ofnext year’s budget from the input received fromcommittees, teams, and departments.
