Fathers’ Day Breakfast
Our Fathers’ Day Breakfast was a huge success last Friday. It was fantastic to see so
many of our dads, step dads, grandfathers and special friends come along to enjoy the
yummy breakfast with the children.
Thanks to our wonderful PTA yet again for providing the breakfast. I know some of our
volunteers started at 6.00am that morning! Their efforts all amounted to a fun
morning and great opportunity for our dads to share in the school experience.
Footy Day
This Friday, September 6 is our Footy Day. Children can come wearing their football
colours. All Year levels will be taking part in a Footy Parade on the oval (weather
permitting) between 11.30am and 1.00pm. If the weather doesn’t look good to hold pa-
rade on Oval, we will do 2 parades in gym. 11.30am – 12pm : Yr 4, Yr 6, Prep, 2A, 2B, &
2C. 12pm – 12.30pm – Yr 1, Yr 3, Yr5, 2D, 2E & 2F.
Parents and community are most welcome to come along and join in the fun. Our PTA
is providing a Special Footy Day lunch to add to the spirit of the day. A big thank you to
our hard working PTA members for organising the orders and distributing the lunches on the day.
Hats – SunSmart Season
A reminder that it is “Hat” season again at Mount Martha. As from last Monday students
are required to wear a school uniform hat for all outdoor activities for the duration of the
“SunSmart” season. School uniform hats are available from the Uniform Shop – open
Tuesday 8.45am - 9.45am and Thursday 3.00pm - 4.00pm.
School Uniform Policy Our school uniform policy is currently being reviewed as reported in past newsletters. A draft of the updated policy is available through the following link: http://www.mtmarthaps.vic.edu.au/app/webroot/uploaded_files/media/uniform_policy_draft_only__2013.pdf Feedback from our school community on the policy draft is welcome. You are invited to comment on the slip provided below or email your comments via the school email
address [email protected]
Your feedback on the policy is valued.
Year 1 Grandparents Morning
Our Year 1 students welcomed their grandparents to share in their learning last week.
Both children and grandparents alike enjoyed the experience of being together to share
in an exciting morning of school activities.
Operation Christmas Child
Please remember to bring in a gift for Operation Christmas Child!
We are hoping each class will fill at least three shoe boxes with gifts
that will be sent to children in underdeveloped countries for Christmas.
We need your gift by the end of term.
Thanks Year 6 SRC Leadership Group.

There have been plenty of wonderful literacy and numeracy activities in classrooms over the past few weeks and here are some more snapshots of children’s work. Thank you to our school community for raising an amazing $1138.25 to be donated to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. We are very lucky to live in the Mount Martha community where we have access to libraries and books, so it is important to take some time to think of others who are not so fortunate. Here are our Read Across Australia – Herman and Rosie book responses.
The Preps created city
pictures just like the author
and illustrator of the book
“Herman and Rosie”, Gus
Gordon. They looked more
closely at the characters too!
Year 1 made their own city scapes.
Year 4 made their own
choice of response to
Herman and Rosie and
chose from making a
flyer or poster for the new
band, research on
Jacques Cousteau, or
writing what happened
next.
Year 5 is currently working on some super numeracy linked Fraction City Scapes in their
classrooms. We look forward to seeing these when they are completed.
Year 6 is looking at our culture and lifestyle and comparing this to what is portrayed in Herman and
Rosie’s home town, New York.
Julie Moncrieff, Literacy Coordinator.
Year 3 compared
and contrasted the
two main characters
and made folded
reports.
Year 2 used
the maps of
New York to
inspire them to
create maps of
Mount Martha.
