Introduction Background The Bank Area Enhancement Strategy, approved in May 2013, sets out the City of London’s vision for transportation and public realm improvements in the Bank area over the next 10 years. The strategy specifically highlighted the need to change Bank Junction.

Situated outside the Bank of England, Mansion House and the Royal Exchange, the six arm signalised junction does not currently function well for many of the people that use it.

Future development demands and transport improvements such as Crossrail, Thameslink and the upgrade of Bank Station, as well as an expected increase in cycle usage, are set to further exacerbate the situation.

The City of London plans to make a significant change to the layout of the road junction to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists and provide an iconic setting surrounded by listed buildings.

Aims The aim of this report is to update and add to the datasets developed for the area strategy and build up the evidence base of user movements, which in turn will help to formulate holistic arguments for and against proposed options for improvement.

The report provides a factual representation of the data collected.
