DVS refuses to react to BSYʼs attack Bangalore: Chief minister D V SadanandaGow- da today refused to react to the outburst of his predecessor B S Yeddyurappa against BJP state president K S Eshwarappa. Gowda said that those who have made the al- legation should react to the questions related to the issue. “It would not look good on my part to make a statement,” he said. “The party has dealt with such issues earli- er, and deal with the present one too. We have convened the core committee. It is my duty to attend it and I will be there,” he said. Yesterday, Yeddyurappa said that Esh- warappa was responsible for his jail term and also dehroning him from the chief minister’s po- sition. The attack has sent shivers in the BJP camp, which is waiting for Yeddyurappa’s next move, which he has said would reveal on Jan- uary 15. CNG prices to go up by `1.75/kg in Delhi New Delhi: The price of compressed natural gas (CNG) has been hiked by Rs 1.75 per kg in the na- tional capital with effect from midnight tonight, mainly on account of rupee depreciation against the U.S. dollar. Indraprastha Gas Ltd, which sells CNG to au- tomobiles and piped cooking gas to households in Delhi and neighbouring towns, said the new prices would be effective from midnight tonight. “The revision in prices would result in in- crease of Rs. 1.75 per kg in the consumer price of CNG in Delhi and Rs. 2.00 per kg in the con- sumer price of CNG in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad,” the company said in a press state- ment here. The new consumer price in Delhi will be Rs. 33.75 per kg, while it will be Rs. 37.90 per kg in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad. This is the fifth increase in CNG rates this year. IGL had last raised CNG prices in Delhi by Rs. 2 per kg to Rs. 32 per kg from October 1. IGL Managing Director M. Ravindran said: “We have been forced to increase the retail price of CNG due to a major increase in the input cost of entire pool of natural gas being sourced by us as a result of recent appreciation of the dol- lar vis-a-vis the rupee and the increased de- pendence on imported LNG.” The hike was necessitated because IGL bought expensive imported LNG to make up for the stoppage of supplies from Reliance Indus- tries’ eastern offshore KG-D6 gas field because of a fall in output. In addition, rupee depreciation has made the raw material —— that is, natural gas —— even costlier. The rupee was hovering around Rs. 49.50 per US dollar at the time of the last price hike, while today, it is about Rs. 53 to a dollar. The much vaunted Indian batting line-up came under attack from the Australian me- dia as the visitors could post just 282 and 169 in the two innings against an inexperienced home side bowling attack to lose the Test by 122 runs. Only Sachin Tendulkar seemed to be in control over the Australian fast bowlers as he top-scored in both innings with a fluent 73 and 32, the local media said. 'The Daily Telegraph' wrote that the pres- sure is now on India and their famed batting line-up would have to prove that they are not flat track bullies. Meanwhile, the local media was effusive in its praise of the national cricket team for the surprise win over India, saying it has "re- discovered their mongrel" or fighting spirit after this month's shock defeat to New Zealand at Hobart. Lokpal bill will be brought in budget session, says govt New Delhi: Putting up a brave front after it failed to muster the numbers in the Ra- jya Sabha, the United Progressive Al- liance government on Friday said the Lokpal Bill will “definitely” be brought be- fore the Rajya Sabha during the budget session even as Congress leader Digvijay Singh defended the move saying exten- sion of the House on Thursday night was not possible. “Definitely we will bring it in March in the Budget session...we have to study the 187 amendments brought by Opposi- tion parties as most are overlapping. Some amendments relate to only a part of a clause and not the entire clause, some demand removing the entire part of the Bill,” Minister of State for Personnel V Narayanasamy said here. He said after going through the amend- ments, the government will take a call on what to accept and what to reject and get back to the Opposition parties. Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh tweeted this morning saying “187 Amendments given till 6 pm on the day of debate and those too contradictory to each other. Extension of the House was not within powers of RS (Rajya Sabha).” He also said, now that government has time, it must “try and bring about con- sensus and pass a strong implementable Lokpal Bill.” Referring to the amendments moved by key UPA partner Trinamool Congress on the Bill in the Rajya Sabha, Mr. Narayanasamy said its reservations are re- garding the appointment of Lokayuktas in the states and “they have no grievances against Lokpal.” But at the same time the minister said Trinamool was part of the Cabinet decision to clear the Lokpal and Lokayukta Bill in- troduced in Lok Sabha a few days ago. “Thy voted with us in the Lok Sabha though they had some reservations about the Constitutional amendment...we are talking to them...there is still some time and we will bring them around,” he said. "I tore the bill as it was a bad bill and against parliamentarians. We were pass- ing a bill that is against us only," he told a TV channel. Prasad said it was a spontaneous action and he had said earlier during his speech in the Rajya Sabha that the RJD would not let the house pass the bill in its present form. "I did what was right. We were ready to sit overnight to discuss the bill but the gov- ernment decided to avoid (it)," he said. In an action that stunned his fellow MPs and those watching the debate on tel- evision, Prasad Thursday night tore a copy of the Lokpal bill after snatching it from Minister of State for Personnel V. Narayanasamy. Key member of the team and former IPS officer Kiran Bedi tore into the Congress, say- ing the onus was on it to get the crucial leg- islation passed in Rajya Sabha as it was the ruling party. “Onus is on the government in power and the party in power to ensure that the Sense of the House is honoured and respected. They ought to have done a lot of home work after the Sense of the House (in August). I think they let it be,” she said. Ms. Bedi’s comments came after the Rajya Sabha failed to pass the Lokpal Bill, which was cleared by Lok Sabha on Tuesday. She also alleged that the Congress did not take much effort to bring other political parties on board on this issue. Ms. Bedi also lauded BJP leaders Arun Jait- ley and Ram Jethmalani and Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi for their speech in the debate in Rajya Sabha. “We also saw the worst when the party in power realised that they were losing ground and how they actually let it go,” she said. “We cannot trust this government.
