Three Day Trips

Bryant Creek area 45 km +;elevation gain: 455 mBeginning at the Mt. Shark trailhead inKananaskis Country, Alberta, this trailbrings hikers to a meadow campsite (ortrail shelter). Day trips can then bemade to Wonder, Allenby orAssiniboine Passes. Be prepared forintermittent noise from helicopters.Campsite: 2 nights at Br14 McBride’sCamp, Br13 Marvel Lake or BryantCreek trail shelter. Topographic maps:82 J/14, 82 J/13

Elk Summit-Cascade MountainLoop 35.8 km; elevation gain: 610 mThe Upper Bankhead picnic area onthe Lake Minnewanka road serves asthe trailhead for this trip, which beginswith a hike up the old Cascade fireroad. Palliser Pass 54.4 km; elevation gain:400 mDeparting from the Mt. Shark trailheadin Kananaskis Country, Alberta, thistrip follows the upper reaches of theSpray River, through subalpinemeadows to Palliser Pass (at theextreme southern tip of Banff NationalPark). Two Day Trips

Lake Minnewanka 8 km one way; elevationgain: nilA good early or late season hike along thelakeshore. The trail departs from the trailheadat the Minnewanka day use area and returnsby the same route. Stay an extra night andexplore Aylmer Pass or Aylmer Lookout.Campsite: Lm8 Aylmer Pass Junction.Topographic map: 82 O/6

Paradise Valley 9.7 km one way; elevationgain: 291 mThe trailhead is located on the Moraine Lakeaccess road. A more strenuous option for thereturn route is to arrange a vehicle or pick-upat Moraine Lake and return via dramaticSentinel Pass and Larch Valley. Campsite:Pa8 Paradise Valley. Egypt Lake 12.4 km one way; elevationgain: 655 mA 2-day trip can be made from the SunshineVillage ski area gondola base to the EgyptLake campsite or trail shelter and back. Stay2 nights if possible, to further explore thewonders of the area.Campsite: E13 Egypt Lake or Egypt Lake trailshelter. Topographic map: 82 O/4

Glacier Lake 8.9 km one way; elevationgain: 210 mThis trail departs from a trailhead north ofSaskatchewan Crossing on the IcefieldsParkway and brings travellers to a campsite atone of the largest backcountry lakes in Banff

Sunshine – Vista Lake 40.4 kmA series of high country trails links theSunshine Village ski area (access on foot or viaa privately run shuttle bus) to the Vista Lakeviewpoint on Highway 93. Explore the EgyptLake area en route. After climbing overGibbon Pass, the trail meanders past a series ofscenic lakes before final descent to the high-way. Campsites: E13 Egypt Lake (Night 1);Re14 Shadow Lake (Night 2); Tw7 Twin Lakes(Night 3). Topographic maps: 82 O/4, 82 N/1

Skoki Loop 34.3 km; elevation gain:1,136 mBeginning at the Fish Creek trailhead(next to the Lake Louise ski area), thistrip starts with a 4 km hike up theTemple access road. Climb over aptly-named Boulder Pass and pass byPtarmigan Lake before descending toBaker Lake. The second day involvestravelling around Fossil Mountain andpast historic Skoki Lodge to MerlinMeadows. After climbing DeceptionPass, re-join the access trail atPtarmigan Lake. Campsites: Sk11Baker Lake (Night 1), Sk18 MerlinMeadows (Night 2). Topographicmaps: 82 N/8, 82 N/9, 82 O/5,82 O/12
