Matters arising from previous minutes:
Website update – Kylie to chase Luke for an update. Luke has presented the proposed website to the executive committee to general approval. Website to be made ‘live’ as soon as possible. Enhancements and updates can then be made as required. Luke has been on extended leave and is progressing the web site. Hopefully up and running soon.
The Wauchope 4WD show was discussed, with volunteers called for. At this stage the Club is awaiting expressions of interest from anyone that can assist.
o Mick Tout advised Jim Anderson is available for track construction works for 2014. Club may look at utilizing another Contractor to dismantle the track to try and secure a longer term option.

Trip/Social Reports: (included in events report)
Paul Wetherby spoke regarding recent working bee at Theos. Majority of work completed, but 30mm of rain slowed down progress. Thanks to Weatherbys and Walters for their support.
Bush mechanics weekend was cancelled due to wet weather. New date to be announced. Garry Lees night drive was cancelled due to lack of numbers.

Events Committee Report (Upcoming events):
Greg Erikson thinking of an 800 – 900km trip to Tenterfield area. Details to be provided. Trip postponed to June / July 2014 (to be confirmed).
29th & 30th March - Gary Lees running a Watagans trip. Leave Friday night, drive down, set up camp and have all day Saturday to drive tracks & visit local scenic sites. Sunday - easy day before packing up and returning back to Port Macquarie. Drive will be Grade 3 (or 4 if wet). Camper trailer friendly, with 4WDing day drives. Contact Garry for more info. At least 5 vehicles from the Central Coast Club will be camping with our club. Great opportunity to meet members from another club.
Steve Carlin running Corner Country Trip to Charleville, Birdsville and Innaminka over Easter / ANZAC period. Departing Wed 16th April, returning Sunday 27th April. Contact Steve Carlin for more details. 5 vehicles currently in attendance. Get in fast, as numbers are limited. Maximum of 8 vehicles.
Request from 4WD Association to host the quarterly general meeting on the 17th May at the Sancrox fire station.
James may be running a Mothers Day Drive. To be confirmed.

TRIP GRADINGS
1. Scenic drive, little or no 4WDing. 2. Scenic with plenty of basic, easy 4WDing and some tricky sections. 3. Medium 4WDing on well used trails with little or no overgrowth. 4. Medium 4WDing on little used and overgrown trails. 5. Difficult hands on 4WDing. Recovery gear essential.
MINIMUM VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS AT ALL TIMES
Vehicles must be fitted with a UHF CB radio.
Vehicles must carry a snatch strap.
Rated D shackles must be carried. Tow hooks must be fitted front and re

JUNE LONG WEEKEND CAMPING / 4WD TRIP TO
APSLEY FALLS
Camping at Apsley Falls National Park campground, approximately 2 hours West of Port Macquarie with day drives around the local area.
CAMP FACILITIES INCLUDE:
Well maintained camp sites on the edge of the stunning Apsley Gorge.
Running tap water (must be boiled prior to drinking).
Flushing toilets.
Open fires.
Bushwalks, wildlife, views etc etc.
ITINERARY:
SATURDAY 8th June - Depart Donut at 8am. Drive up Oxley Highway to Apsley Falls campground, collecting firewood along the way. Set up in time for lunch before undertaking 6km bushwalk around northern rim of Apsley Gorge. Back to camp with happy hour and dinner around the camp fire.
SUNDAY 9th June – Depart camp around 8am and drive approximately 50kms to Budds Mare lookout. From here we engage the hubs and low range for the short, steep decent to Riverside where we stop for smoko and a bit of an explore. On exiting the valley, we’ll have a look at Moona Plains before heading back to Walcha for lunch at the pub. Following lunch, back to camp via some back tracks and more great scenery. Another evening around the roaring fire complete with a few hot chocolates.
MONDAY 10th June – After allowing the sun to dry out the damp canvas, we’ll pack up camp and head back to Port via Tia Falls and Kangaroo Flat, Mooraback, Racecourse & Hastings Forest Way with lunch along the way. Plan on getting back to Port around 3pm
CAMPING COST PER NIGHT: $5 per adult & $3 per child.
RIVERSIDE ACCESS COST: $15 per vehicle with a relevant National Parks Pass. $25 for all other vehicles.
4WDing: The short drive on Sunday from Budds Mare to Riverside is grade 3, low range (only about 2kms each way). The drive home on Monday is via good dirt roads, grade 1 to 2. Majority of the remaining drive will be on bitumen.

All food and drinks (except for Sunday lunch at Walch pub)
Drinking water (water at campground can be drunk if boiled)

Trip Brief

Watagans The Watagan mountains State Forrest &
National Park is located to the north west of
the Central Coast
Grade 3-4 if wet
My plan is to travel down on Friday
afternoon, aprox 3-4 hrs drive, set up camp at
Casuarina camp ground, has basic facilitys.
Sat have a full day of driving & some scenic
lookouts, Guided by some members of the
Central Coast 4wd Club, Sunday will be a
more casual drive & pack up after lunch &
travel home.
The trip to camp & return is camper trailer
friendly.
Will need to be self sufficient for the
weekend. Distance that will be travelled over
weekend will be aprox 800km fuel is
available along the way

Trip Leader Of the Year Award
Club members, To try to increase the amount of 4wd trips
run per year the current executive has decided to a trial of
a trip leader of year award.
How it will work is as follows
A 4wd trip advertised in Banda news by a club member
One person on executive has nominated to keep a tally of
the trips & members whom has run them, a list will be
placed in the Banda news prior to AGM, at AGM the
members present will be asked to vote on whom they
would like as the Trip Leader Of the Year from those
whom have run trips in preceding 12 months.
We have currently have an offer for a perpetual trophy.
This is for 4wd trips only & not social events such as
Meetings ,Xmas Party, Driver training/awareness, track
clearing days, Reccys etc.

through the Great Divide to Tenterfield and back. In the
planning state but possibly a Friday night through until
Friday, trailer friendly and approximately 900klms.

CORNER COUNTRY TRIP Easter/Anzac week April 2014
16.4.14 – Leave Port Macquarie (Donut) at 1pm. Get the mountain out of the way. Head towards Inverell via Uralla &
the Thunderbolts Way. Roadside camp in a rest area, possibly Bundarra Lions Park
(Approx. 285km)
17.4.14 – 7.30 Start, head towards Mitchell via Inverell, Warialda, Moree, Mungindi & St George with another roadside camp at Womallilla rest area 37km south of Mitchell (Approx. 600km) Depending on how we are travelling we may be able to push on to Charleville & pick up a day.
18.4.14 – Easy start to the day, we should get to Charleville by lunch time. (Approx. 218km) We will be staying at Charleville Bush Caravan Park (2km from Charleville). Costs - $24.00 un-powered & $28.00 powered per night. (this will be a 2 night stay) Our camp hosts Graham & Deb Reed offer a 2 hour guided tour of Charleville ($10 per person) in their Coaster bus. For more info visit www.charlevillecaravanpark.com.au 19.4.14 – Charleville 20.4.14 – 8am start head toward Birdsville via Quilpie & the Diamantina Developmental Road. Probably camp at a roadside rest area at the intersection of Diamantina & Birdsville Developmental Rds (near Morney Station) (Approx. 565km) 21.4.14 – Early start again today 7.30am. Get to Birdsville today via Haddon Corner (108 km round trip detour). Camp for 2 nights at Birdsville Caravan Park. (Approx. 384km)

22.4.14 – Birdsville - take a drive out to Big Red and beyond to Eyre Creek for a bit of a look around. Then back over the dunes to camp for happy hour and hit the pub for dinner 23.4.14 – Head for Innamincka via Cordillo Downs Road. We pass Australia’s largest shearing shed. 36km past the shed we’ll turn toward ‘Arrabury’, link up with Arrabury Rd & head south via the Burke & Wills Dig Tree into Innamincka. (Approx. 466km) 24.4.14 – Innamincka – explore or rest, dinner at the pub 25.4.14 – Turn for home via the old Strzelecki Track & Cameron Corner. Camp somewhere near or at Wanaaring (Approx. 595km) 26.4.14 – Head for Gunnedah via Bourke & Narrabri (Approx. 699km) 27.4.14 – Home – wash the car and get ready for work (Approx. 354km)
# This trip involves a few big days driving due to the distance to be
covered in the limited time we (Steve & Trudy) have off work. This is what we propose
but, as you know, unexpected things can happen on trips. The trip will be pretty full on,
covering over 4200km. Depending on road conditions we may be able to pick up a spare
day to make things a bit easier. As this is in school holidays some members may take the
opportunity to leave earlier in the week and meet up somewhere along the way.

DTU Course Information
Information regarding the DTU is explained below. Basically by being a member of the Port Macquarie 4WD club you can gain additional 4WD training and obtain a nationally recognised qualification. Please note this is not a requirement of joining our club but another avenue to gain valuable experience. For further information please contact Gary Lees after 6pm on 0417 244 100.
Driver Training Information
All members of Affiliated 4WD Clubs have access to Nationally Accredited Driver Training program. This allows any member to obtain formal nationally recognised qualifications. Driver Training is provide to Association Clubs via the Driver Training Unit (DTU).
What is the DTU?
The DTU is The Driver Training Unit of " Four Wheel Drive NSW & ACT". The DTU is made up of volunteers who are members of affiliated clubs with experience in both 4WDing and training and a desire to improve the level and quality of training within Association clubs. The Driver Training Unit of "Four Wheel Drive NSW & ACT" is a Registered Training Organisation RTO Provider No 5172 able to train and assess nationally accredited courses / units in 4WDing contained within the National Outdoor Recreation Industry Training Package.
What training and Assessment does the DTU provide?
The DTU's main aim is to work with affiliated clubs to improve the quality of 4WD training. This may include any of the following: assessment of club driver trainers / club members, providing support / resources to assist club driver trainers in delivering accredited training, delivering accredited training and assessment for clubs without experienced/ qualified trainers. This program provides the basis for clubs to deliver accredited training and assessment to Association Clubs.
