Band Audition Requirements The following information is an explanation of the Meyerland PVA Middle School Band Audition Process. The rubric below outlines the criteria that will be evaluated during the audition. Band Audition Rubric *All auditions will be held live on Microsoft Teams. WiFi connectivity, webcams, device audio, and Teams access should be tested before and ready for the designated audition date and time. Sincerely, Christopher Orloske - Director of Bands - Candace Jordan - Assistant Band Director - E-mail: [email protected] / [email protected] Criteria Description of Process *Scales (and/or) Percussion Rudiments *Concert Scale(s): Play two octaves ascending & descending *Chromatic Scale: Play one octave ascending & descending *Percussion Rudiments: double stroke, paradiddle, flams, ruffs … etc. *Sight Reading *The student will mentally analyze the provided music during the given one minute timespan. *The student will do their best to accurately perform the provided music after the one minute of analysis. *Musicality *Is the student following the correct musical markings within the piece? *Is the phrasing correct? Is the style of the music portrayed? *Prepared Piece *The student is required to perform a solo work to demonstrate their technical and expressive commend of the instrument. The student should choose a piece that they feel will effectively exhibit their musicianship. *Student’s camera must be on to view audition ~ *Microphone is muted until asked to turn it on from a band director ~ *Make sure you are in a quiet space for the audition to take place ~
