Band-2 Prototype Cartridge Project – Summary for ASAC meeting Optical design was completed, implemented and characterized. MMIC CLNA designs complete, wafer run in progress at the foundry, expected completion is January 2016. Prototype cold cartridge has been assembled and tested – comprises of final designs for horn, OMT, feed-throughs – but still using backup hardware (e.g. “chip-and-wire” CLNAs) where necessary. A prototype WCA/LO has been assembled and integrated with an interim single polarization 2SB downconverter (based on commercial mixers) after existing MMIC 2SB chips (originally proposed for this project) were found to have a problem. Made preliminary measurements for the Band-2 receiver, iterated receiver configurations , and have a new optimized signal flow configuration based on these initial results (e.g. need to add RF post amplifier, RF band definition filter etc). Currently waiting for parts to implement the final dual- polarization 2SB mixers – expected to be available by end of October 2015. Once the revised configuration of the dual polarization

Band-2 Prototype Cartridge Project – Summary for ASAC meeting

• Optical design was completed, implemented and characterized.• MMIC CLNA designs complete, wafer run in progress at the foundry, expected

completion is January 2016.• Prototype cold cartridge has been assembled and tested – comprises of final

designs for horn, OMT, feed-throughs – but still using backup hardware (e.g. “chip-and-wire” CLNAs) where necessary.

• A prototype WCA/LO has been assembled and integrated with an interim single polarization 2SB downconverter (based on commercial mixers) after existing MMIC 2SB chips (originally proposed for this project) were found to have a problem.

• Made preliminary measurements for the Band-2 receiver, iterated receiver configurations , and have a new optimized signal flow configuration based on these initial results (e.g. need to add RF post amplifier, RF band definition filter etc).

• Currently waiting for parts to implement the final dual-polarization 2SB mixers – expected to be available by end of October 2015.

• Once the revised configuration of the dual polarization 2SB down-converter is completed, final evaluation of the Band-2 prototype receiver will commence in early November.

• Intend to finish evaluation by December 2015, to allow sufficient time for documentation/final report.

• We have integrated a backup mixer into the LO WCA, so as to continue with cold cartridge
