First of all, let us tell you that calling Amber as stone is a
little unfair! The simple reason is that Amber is not a
stone but a fossilized resin. When this stunning solid resin
is given the shape and form of jewelry, it has a striking
resemblance with gemstones and thus, many people
often refer to it as a gemstone!
The awe-inspiring properties of amber have made it
popular worldwide. Known for its superb pain killing
powers and remarkable healing effects, amber is often
sorted out by people who wish to leave a healthy life free
from pain and ailments.
Popularly known as the ‘Gold of Sea’, the beautiful
looking amber is treasured as one of the oldest gifts from
nature. This beautiful treasure got formed millions of
years ago and was conserved by time itself. When it
came on the shores for the benefits of mankind, it was
soon recognized for its unique metaphysical and healing
properties.
Providing protection and restitution, this honey-like resin
is often called as ‘tears of God’ or ‘drops of sun’. Amber
has been used as a decorating element and medicinal
blessing since ages for its impeccable beauty and
positive healing effects.

Amber is a blend of hydrocarbons and consists of
succincic acid, materials from plant and few tree resins
(typically of Pine genus – a Pine species which extinct
years ago!). Actually it belongs to a class of organic
gems but it cannot be called a mineral or a crystal as
well. It is in fact, an organic product that got formed with
a long period of time when trees, commonly the pine
genus, produced resin in the pre-historic era and the
same resin got fossilized when millions of years passed
by!
If you are a little confused about the term ‘resin’, let us
tell you that it is a fragrant, sticky, semi-solid substance
which is produced by the epithelial cells of plants.

Many of you must have heard about the various
inclusions in amber. Well, inclusion simply means
‘including something’. When the resin got filled in the
cracks of tress and trickled down, it included anything
that came in its way because of its sticky nature. Some
of the inclusions that have been observed in amber are
insects, spiders, mosquitoes, wood, plants, leaves, hair,
feather, etc.
Amber is also coveted for its naturally purifying
property and is highly respected for its pain
relieving ability. It draws negativity from your mind,
body and soul and fills the wearer with positivity.

When it comes to Amber, the Baltic Amber is considered
as the best. We will surely discuss later in our eBook that
‘Why Baltic Amber is superior to the other varieties of
Amber?’
Just as the name suggests, the Baltic Amber comes
chiefly from the Baltic region, mainly, Russia, Lithuania
and Poland. The Baltic Amber contains 2-2.5 hardness
and it can transparent to opaque in appearance. As far as
the color of Baltic amber is concerned, this variety is found
in pale yellow and whitish hues and also in beautiful
shades that include honey like yellow, brown shades and
orange hue. The red and green hues also exist but they
are found rarely. However, the one you find in the market
are mostly pressure/heat treated.

Amber is available in various colors and shapes naturally.
It occurs in the transparent form as well as in the
spectrum colors and also the black hue. The internal
structure of amber is responsible for its various shapes.
This internal structure varies from sample to sample. The
crystal structure of amber is of amorphous form. As it is a
natural product, its each piece is unique. It mostly occurs
in various shades of yellow but is found in various other
colors too as discussed below.
Let us now read about the types of amber! We have
included the natural types as well as those available in the
market.
• Clear Amber – This variety of amber is very extremely
transparent and looks very serene and beautiful.
• Massive Amber – This one is found in deep red-yellow
colors and also in the colorless form.
• Pit Amber – This type of Amber is mined and it contains
high amount of Baltic material produced.
For more information visit us at ayanaproducts.com
• Foamy Amber – This is an opaque variety of amber and
does not take a polish.
• Fatty Amber – At the very first glance, it looks like
goose fat. It contains small bubbles.
• Sea Amber- This variety is also popularly known as the
scoopstone or the seastone as it is found in sea. It is also
found on the surface of water and under the water.
• Cloudy Amber – This one also contains a number of
tiny bubbles but it is more opaque when compared to
Fatty amber.
• Bone Amber – It is softer and even more opaque than
the cloudy amber. It is available in white and white-brown
shades. It resembles bone or ivory.
• Sicilian/Simetite Amber – It is found in red to orange
color and is generally dark in color. It can also be found in
the fluorescent form including yellow, green and blue
overtones. It is even darker than the Baltic Amber.
• Romanian Amber – Available in brownish yellow to
brown color and in brown-red to black color, this variety of
amber contains even more amounts of sulphur when
compared to Baltic amber.
For more information visit us at ayanaproducts.com
• Chinese Amber – Found in nearly colorless to pale
yellow to orange form, this variety is a little bit harder than
the Baltic amber.
• Natural Baltic Amber – This is the best variety of amber
and it simply is the Amber as it comes from nature.
Usually uneven in color and shape, this type especially
comes from the Baltic Region. Sometimes it does not only
contain rich succinite amount but also the other fossil
resin known as the gedanite. Natural Baltic amber is
highly used in jewelry and art forms.
• Copal – Copal is the product of a different species of
trees than Baltic Amber and it is known as young amber. It
comes from the Dominion Republic.
• Ambroid – In this form, the final product consists of
small pieces of amber entrenched in plastic.
• Ambrite – This name is usually referred to the amber
found specifically in New Zealand.
• Genuine Amber – Actually this term is used for both
Natural Baltic Amber and Pressed Amber. Both of these
types are hundred percent amber and have no additives.
For more information visit us at ayanaproducts.com
• Pressed Amber – Small pieces of Amber go through
high pressure and come together to form a one piece
which is evenly colored. At the first glance it looks almost
like Natural Baltic Amber but can be distinguished with its
uniform shape.
• Imitation Amber – Just as the name suggests, this type
is the one which is not natural but is made using glass,
plastics and modern resins.

Amber is in use since ages. Various cultures and
civilizations around the world have proofs of amber. The
history of Amber does not only considers the Baltic region
but also some other places as well. You will be surprised
and glad to know that archaeologists have discovered
many delightfully carved amber pieces in graves that date
back to approximately 2000 b.c. or before. One of the
famous archeological finds is the ‘Amber Cup’. It was
discovered at Hove near Brighton. This beautiful nature’s
gift called ‘amber’ has also been found in Egyptian tombs
and that includes the famous Tutankhamen tomb too.
In ancient times, Amber was called by few names like the
Latin succinum, or “juice” from the extinct Pinites. The
Greeks used to call it the electron which is a term used to
refer the sun. This word is also our origin for the word
‘electron’. Pliny discussed about its pine origins as the
matter gave an aromatic pine smell when rubbed, burnt or
ignited. However, it is widely believed that the
contemporary word ‘ambar’ comes from the Arabian word
‘Anbar’ which is a term used for the same colored material
that is released from the sperm whale on the shores.

Baltic Amber comes from the Baltic region which is home
to the largest known deposit of amber, called Baltic amber.
It dates from 44 million years ago and it has been
predicted that those pre-historic forests produced more
than 100,000 tons of amber. At present, 90% of the
world's amber comes from Russia.
It is said that millions of years ago, the climate became
warmer and trees began to release high amount of resin.
Scientists believe that amber is a fossil pine resin from
southern regions of the present day Scandinavia and
nearby regions of the bed of the Baltic Sea. According to
the scientists, the resin has gained a stable state through
oxidation.

Baltic amber is the amber that comes from regions around
the Baltic Sea in Europe. This is the only type of amber
that is highly used in healing. Remember that Russian
Amber is also Baltic amber. Containing significant amount
of succinite, it acts as a great healing element and thus is
considered the best type of amber around the world.
It’s a delightful fact that using this amber during teething
helps your child get quick relief from pain in just fifteen or
twenty minutes. Once your baby starts wearing the
teething amber necklace, the amber receives warmth and
the body of your baby starts absorbing the main substance
– succinite.
It helps your child get relief from mouth joint pain and gum
soreness that are often observed during teething. Many of
the users of this amber have reported positive results in
ailments like fibromyalgia, strain injuries, migraine, stress,
etc.

• The one word answer for this question is that Russian
Amber contains rich amount of succinite. So what is
succinite? Well, it is a substance that originates in nature
and our bodies as well. But remember that in our bodies,
this substance is present in very small amount.
• The importance of succinite can be understood by the
sheer fact that it acts as a pain-reliever and also as an
anti-inflammatory. Today, this substance is chemically
produced by many medical industries around the world.
The pain relieving ability of this substance is quite valuable
for the whole mankind and hence, it is used in various
forms of medicines.
• Now that when you know that succinite is such an
important substance, it is easier for you to understand the
value of Russian amber which contains high
concentrations of the same. Because of this simple
reason, Russian amber is often used in pain relieving
therapies.

• Another important fact about Russian amber is that it is
believed to enhance your immune system. It is in use all
over the world since generations. One of the popular
theories say that when Russian amber comes in contact
with a child’ body, the succinic acid is produced from the
gums because of the heat of child’s body. Once this acid is
released, the child starts getting quick relief from pain that
is produced during the teething process.
• Russian amber helps your child to get rid of stress that
occurs during teething and calms down your child. The
natural analgesic properties of Russian amber provide
relief from pain too by producing succinic acid and by
easing the muscles. It also provides relief from swelling
and inflammation. Moreover, the Russian amber is
considered to be a rich anti-oxidant too.
